What's your ranking?

Last I checked I was 15th in the NE and 44th nationally which confirms my initial thought when I saw our region fenced in most of the population centers in the country while the mid-west is basically Chicago + farmland that it's going to be harsh being the top 8 from the NE.
Which unfortunately means that unless they tweak things with wild-cards due to the unnecessary geographic regions (seriously this is online after all) that lots of fast people from the northeast will not be making the finals.

I know, right...

What's weird is that the states in the Northeast don't actually have that many more people than the other regions. I believe the Southeast actually has the most (don't mess with Texas). I just checked this using the latest 2010 census data from wiki (slow day at work during the holiday week...), and it's not THAT far off. The midwest has the fewest by a bit, but with CA in the West and TX in the Southeast, population wise the regions are "fair".

I may still be right when you look at "population that can afford a ps3, wheel, plasma tv, and time". I remember seeing a map in the Times last week that showed median household income and education data from the 2010 census... most of the $ followed the Acela corridor from DC to Boston. The South East just made me sad and Kentucky made me weep.
We have to remember that if racing is a rich-mans game than virtual racing is at least a middle-class game.

EXACTLY - I was just going to say, looking closer at demographics...or previous GT sales/GT Academy participation would have been a better metric for splitting up the regions.

Anyway, it is what it is...I'll just have to put in extra time to make a real run for Orlando in rounds 2 and 3.

Put some time in at the Cape and moved up to 61st (SE) and 240th (overall), as of a few hours ago. Not too shabby for an old fart, I think.

I'm in southern indiana and I can count on one hand how many people I know in this area that do online racing. usually the guys that would do this online stuff ARE racing in this area. There are 3 dirt sprint cars, 5 dirt midgets in my town alone. They go racing every weekend. There is one dirt midget racer in my neighborhood and I love his Thursday Night romps down the street to make sure everything is working OK.

The other thing hurting the online play is that a lot of homes out here don't have DSL yet. The communication companies don't want to spend the money on extra cable. If you are out of city limits 3 out of 5 times you have 56k and that's it.

Finally had a chance to put some times in today, been so busy with work havent played in a week.

Ranked 37 in the West last time I checked
Ranked 106 Nationally

Still got a few seconds to take off Cape Ring with about a 2:49 flat right now, I still dont got the map 100% down yet. Wish I had more spare time to compete with you all, wont have another day off for another 10 days though... :/

OK so I lied, and put in a few more hours on Cape Ring today, managed 11th best time in region with like a 2:47.3, would of been nice to get top ten and have my replay posted :/

So I bumped myself 12th in region, and I think somewere in the 50s national. Wonder how long that'll last for the next few days I dont play. I still got a few tenths to kill on Rome as well...

Improved my overall times and rank with hard work today - looking for even more (especially from Cape Ring) tomorrow. Think I found some of the magic used my the fast guys.

I'm now ranked 19th in the Southeast and 81st overall. My initial goal is to make it into the top 16 in region. If I meet that then it is top 8 and so on. (Like the setup of the tournament)

See sig for my track times.

Went from 20th to 15th overall. The times are really getting close and were only a week and a half into this round

I know...that's why I'm worried to just hang it up till the end of the round. I feel if I leave for a week I'll be dropped like a fly. lol

Oh god yeah I totally forgot about the crap access to broadband outside of the major urban fiber rings. That's a huge one. Read another article recently talking about how most of the country not only may have no access but also has poor competition so "broadband" doesn't even qualify for the FCC definition. Pretty sad how all of our infrastructure from power, water, roads, and communications are either falling apart or lagging behind.

Finally getting into the 47's on the Cape Ring has propelled me to 15th in the SE and 60th overall.

My goal was to get top 16 in the SE. Now my goal is to get into the top 8.

Havent been on in a couple days. I was 131st in my region (SE)a couple days ago so i would imagine im probably around 160-170 now. Not bad considering i really havent poured as much time into it as i would have liked. I will be soon though. I have alot of time to be had on the last TT. I beleive i can get into the top 32 with the time i can gain on that one alone.

Grrrrr that first track is killing me!!!! I just don't want to have to slide around every turn : ( thank god for the other two tracks.

Got down tp 4th on cape ring in se and 6th overall I se.

Excellent job! Cape Ring and I will be working together for a while since I have the most time to gain from it. The other 2 tracks I'm within at least a second but this track I'm still 2+ sec off at a 2:47:753

Improved my Cape Ring Time by 0.7 or something like that. Moved up to 68th in SE, just ahead of Lord Grey, who happens to be from the same town I am. Imagine that. 266th overall.

Dropped a couple more tenths at the Cape today. Felt like I made pretty good progress. 2.45.341

I've been using your old 45.655 time every now and then to follow...guess I need to upgrade haha. I believe I can get a 47 flat or high 46 but I haven't been able to piece all my fastest sectors yet.

Finally I hit 2 of my goals. That moved me up to 3rd in the Northeast (behind the 2 aliens Fix and Kris), 5th nationally.

My first 2:45.x at the Cape, and it was a semi-blown lap. I've gone about 0.4s faster through the last section alone...excuses.

I still need to hit my 1:05.200 goal (at 1:05.227 now), but now I need 2 new goals for Rome and Cape - 1:21.450 and 2:45.750.

Shibby, I haven't played since a few days before Christmas and my ~38th in my region is now 126th. Guess I'll need to chop off some more time!

I moved 30 spots last night, from 118th to 88th in the West. I always save Tsukuba for last in my nightly trifecta and I am really starting to have fun on that track but the Ring is the fat hog that will get my total focus until I have loped off another 3 seconds.

I'm right with you there... currently 100th in the Midwest and falling. I can lose like 6 seconds off of Cape if I just string together a mistake free lap... Top 10 here I come!

*fingers crossed*

It has been tough for me during the holidays w/ trying to find the time to grind and not lose my confidence and then I blast a big move, it’s like the faster I go my lines are forced to be clean. This competition is so much more fun this time compared to the one last year for me because of this forum. Last year I was such a cyber squid finishing in the top 800 and this year I feel like I am able to hold my head up and thinking I could be an alien or at least there might have been one in the wood pile.

Good job man, I noticed we swapped positions a couple times today :P

Given that you are <0.1s combined behind me, I'm sure there will more more switching...

Unfortunately for me, that switching is most likely going to result in a worse ranking since I'm a good 0.6s+ from the aliens (Kris, Fix, Choate, and now Hunk was abducted by aliens). By the time I work my way down to a combined 5:12.low, they will be into the 11's.

Good job to you and Acerockolla. I rocked out last night and snuck in the #3 time in the northeast for Rome a 1.21.5xx, but had 4 attempts where I was up by more than a tenth on that going in to the last sector and put in the wall in turn 11...don't ask, just got too excited and pushed too hard for the 1.21.2 :). Now I'm going to go back to the Cape and stick her down in the low 2.46 range. I also haven't ran Tsukuba in over 2 weeks. I've been sitting on a 05'.775 there...that's like 40th place now! :)

Happy New Year guys.
