Which Would You Rather in GT5?: Custom Paint/Colors or Skid Marks/Damage

I wouldn't get to caught up over paint jobs, GT would lose it's touch a little maybe. The skids and damage should come first. đź’ˇ ahh, poll should have been which would you want 1st skids or paints? (FACEPALM) :ouch:!

I voted Paint and parts. Online mode is that much more fun when you see cars that evoke some personality of the person driving them. Seeing 5 guys all in plain-jane Acura/Honda NSX's isn't very exciting.

Though I'm warming to damage. And I'd love skid marks even though they're a long shot 'cause they'd be hard to do right.

I don’t get the obsession with skid marks. I really don’t. Some chances to be individual online would be much, much better. That’s a fact I tell you.

It's ont how you look it's how you drive.

Sorry, i can't make up my mind, i am just a Biased Douche bag.

But i do, See your livery and raise you reverse lights.

I'd rather see the Custom paint/Colors come into effect. Gran Turismo has done fine without skid marks or damage for 10 years, and continues to do so today. But repainting cars would be very much appreciated instead of having to buy 10 of the same car in your favorite colors.

My 2 cents.

I agree with you McLaren, but because they combined damage WITH skidmarks, I chose that one. Had damage not been connected to skidmarks, I would have gone with livery.

I would love to see some sort of livery editor or custom paint appear in the GT series. If I had to pick, that would be the most important part to me.

I'd have to choose the damage & skidmarks feature. I do not really care if either option are in GT5 but I would rather have damage over custom paint.

I feel the same pretty much, but at a later date again I wouldn't mine the paint. See if the damage and skid-marks are perfected in lets say Gran Turismo 5, then the painting option should be the next new entity added to Gran Turismo as well as better skid's and damage as it would be the second time KY and PD played with the two.

Skid marks and damage obviously. Livery editor isn't essential to me.

In fact, I hate the idea of the livery editor. 95% of cars with liveries look like crap especially compared to originals.

Not sure exactly where you are looking, but for the most part there are some great looking designs out there. Yes there are some eyesores out there, but not near as many compared to some of the stellar looking designs. Creativity is a great thing, and adds a WHOLE different aspect to the racing genre. With a livery editor you can do plain and simple designs, it doesnt always have to be neon colors with anime characters painted on them. Just adding a simple stripe, two toned colors, or race decals can get the job done without overdoing it. It sure beats the hell out of online races that have the same 4 basic red Ferraris or the same exact yellow Ford GT's with black stripes. A livery would give you a personal bond to your car, making it feel like it is truely yours and special. But I guess if you don't mind seeing 4 of the same exact cars looking identical then thats your preference. A livery would just spice online up a bit, leaving the dull same single color cars as a thing of the past.

And what happens when your favorite specific model of car is left out? Hit the livery and add the colors/patterns/decals to transform that car into its counterpart.

Example: Maybe the standard '96 vette is in the game but no 'Grand Sport' edition.
Turn this:

Into this:

...tweak the performance and boom...you got yourself a whole new model of car that wasn't included before. That could go for any specific car model that wasn't in included in the game. As long as you have the base car model, you can have any special edition/racing version you like. Another example: In Midnight Club LA, it had the 2008 Corvette ZO6. I took it to the editor, slapped on some simple "ZR-1" decals I made, upgraded the performance, and whalla...a ZR1 was born (not 100% accurate but you get the idea). I've seen alot of people doing this because they had the base model but not the upgraded or special edition. A livery doesn't always have to mean neon green cars with pink teletubbies on the side.

EDIT: By the way, I voted for damage/tire marks because that is a must have for a racing sim. My post was just in response of him saying he hates the idea of a livery editor, and 95% of them look like crap. Honestly, there's no reason not to have both. Its almost year 2010, neither one is a stretch to have, and both would be a huge addition to the GT series.

Well IMO, having the look is pointless if the performance is only an approximation. But I guess the above suggestion would work for the billions of Skylines and Veyrons out there.

As for the poll, it seems kind of weird to me. Damage and skidmarks don't have anything to do with each other. Out of all the options presented, damage and body/aero tuning clearly lead. With them separated I don't know which way to vote.

Thats why I said "..and tweak the performance". Of course it may not be 100% accurate to the real thing, but I would rather have a very close version, than non at all. Thats just my opinion. Plus there are many 'special edition' models out there that are the same performance as the base models, just have a special look to them. Some special editions just have a unique paint color and some extra decals/stripes/# signs that the stock versions dont have.

Perfect point, if the option presents itself in GT to alter the cars exterior paint I'll take the simple paint hues or custom ones versus neon colors and huge eyesore graphics :).

*Loved the Vette photo examples by the way.
