i think one of the greatest is/was James Marshall Hendrix, better known as Jimi Hendrix.......but nowadays there are other perfect players like the ones you all mentioned 👍 👍

Clapton Is God!
No, Not Really.

Clapton is technically excellent, but he lacks soul and emotion in much of his playing. The only times he can summon up any feeling are when he's imitating one of the older masters' styles. And don't get me started on the bulk of his solo pop work, which is for the most part simply awful.

Clapton lost major credibility with me for leaving the Yardbirds in a famous huff because they "weren't staying true to the blues". After one - count it, one - album with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, he then went on to found stoner favorite Cream. Real "true" to the blues, there, Slowhand.

I just saw an Australian guitarist on PBS(public broadcast) by the name of Tommy Emmanuel. Not only was he one of the best guitarist I've ever seen or heard, he had moves I'd never seen before. He was doing some stuff with the guitar that was completely new to me.

I'm definitely adding this guy on my all-time best guitarist list. He's got some serious skillz.

Never heard of Tommy Emmanuel???

Well, to be honest, he's not that much known. He's more into the christian music, but his style is really nice, since he usually plays (picks) with all ten fingers, and I think that's one of his majour trademarks. He plays solo, although he was in a band during the 80s, called Dragon.

I know. :ouch: When I saw him performing on TV, he just blew me away. I couldn't believe that I had never heard the name of such an talented guitarist. I'm definitely a fan, now.

As far as guitarists go, I really like Adam Jones, Matt Bellamy, and Daron Malakian. They're not shredders, and their stuff isn't too hard to play, but I really like how creative and unique they all are. And, they all play several instruments.

Favorite guitarist would be Kirk Hammett. Favorite solo is hard to decide as there are so many great ones to choose from, my favorite at the moment is the duet solo thingy he does with James Hetfield on Fight Fire With Fire, just after the main solo. I also like alot of the solos Kirk did on the Load album, the solo on Bleeding Me is one of my favorites, and I love that screaching sort of sound he does on his solo on Devils Dance (on the ReLoad album) and the solo its self and even the lead riffs to that song are great.

My favourite guitarist ever is Charlie Simpson from Busted.

My favourite solo is the one in "Air Hostess" by the same band. Check it out. 👍

Hahaha very funny! :D

I like Brian May and Dave Gilmour the best

All their guitar solo's are awesome 👍

If you thought yngwie was good a guitar check this out

lol! He's completely wasted. He's not that great of a guitar player. He tends to play the same riffs and scales over and over again. He's and equally bad drummer. I play drums better than he does, but then I don't drum while drunk.

Weird video, though. The dude shooting it kept shooting the fan. Know why? It's Yngwie's biggest fan! Harr-harr!

Bump

Now, this guy plays too fast. It's Paul Gilbert from Mr. Big.

Gilbert rocks, but I don't dig his 80's metal influenced material. His solo albums are far, far better 👍

My turn

Michael Angelo Batio - nowhere near my top xx list as a favourite guitarist, but he's one talented mofo.

Speed Kills:

Double Guitarring:

Over Killing:

Crazy video!!! It's Richie Sambora.

Recently, I have been getting into Black Label Society, and Zakk Wlyde is amazing. A good solo of his is from his song Suicide Messiah. I enjoy playing it too. Just some good note-bending and some finger tapping is what impresses me.

Over Killing video just got pwned

I don't think so. What he's doing is simple left hand tapping and right hand pluck strumming with no difficult techniques or special musical abilities. I think he's boring as hell, too. I've seen that video posted here before, too. It's like watching bread turning into to toast, and hating toast.

Anyone heard of Jeff Healey? Once I've worked out how to show a You Tube video I'll show one!
Ahh..now I understand!

Personally I'm not into guitar "shredding" and endless arpeggios etc..bores me ridged. I appreciate the "skill" but musically it's not my taste, though I don't mind a little from say Vai or Satriani.

Anyway, Jeff Healey..a blind Canadian guitarist. Video is from very early in his career around '88 (I think he was around 21 yrs old then).

Anyway, one of my favourite guitarists is Jeff Beck.

Lastly, Steve Hackett ex-Genesis.

What I admire most in a guitarist is their individual sound and their imagination. I don't have any time for copycats or soulless automaton.

Yeah, Jeff Healey is great, even without his handicap/playing style. Then when you see him play that way, it's even more amazing.

[edit] Hey, I don't think I realized that Beck plays with his left thumb, Hendrix-style (though of course it was Jimi's right thumb).

He was quite popular in the late 80's. Wasn't he in that Patrick Swayze movie, "Road House"?
Edit:
Youtubing is a good idea. Here's Tommy Emmanuel I mentioned few weeks ago:

Okay, this guy isn't my favorite guitarist, nor is this a favorite solo, but you guys gotta see this video. You might recognize the song because this is a cover of a song by DJ Tiesto. Just watch

Just found this jem on Youtube...

(Hope it works)

I've just got to say that it's got pretty close to as much soul and emotion that I've heard anywhere. Love the sound (And the lighting, too. But this isn't about that).

Awesome song. 👍

I don't think Pink Floyd's light shows will ever be beaten.
