Oh, Comfortably Numb. 👍 That really isn't that hard to learn. With Gilmour it's all timing and tonality. He has a great musical ear (or ears) and rarely if ever plays anything that doesn't seem right for the song. He is without doubt my favourite guitarist.
But his style's not too hard to copy. But to come up with what he plays in the first place is the real trick.

I'd have to say the following are my favourites:
- John Frusciante (sp?) from the Chili Peppers
- Tom Morello of Rage/Audioslave fame
- Kim Thayil of Soundgarden
- And Joe Satriani, solo artist (Summer Song was in GT4; only found that out today)

Sound quality isn't great in this particular video, but I love Crossfire.
Also, note that the bassist managed to break a string. :scared:

Note the neck of the guitar...

It may be a Hendrix song, but he does it sooo good. Broke a string at the end of that one, too.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, my all time and forever favorite guitarist.
And he's a great vocalist to boot.

Edit - Dunno if the last one's going to work. It's no cooperating right now. It's Voodoo Chile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVl40W8-mwo

I always liked SRV. Shame he's no longer around...

This is one I found SRV and (a very young) Jeff Healey together..

Look at Little Sister... Haven't listened to that one in a while.

Does anyone know whether Jeff Healey went blind before or after he started playing guitar?

These aren't guitar solos, but rather bass guitar solos:

Victor Wooten is my favourit bassist, without any doubt one of the best, if not the best. He's incredibly fast...Tell me a better bassist, and I raise you another Wooten vid...

And then there's John Entwistle, who sadly, is dead, or has past away to say it in a more decent way. That bass is incredible, John's pinky could crush a beer can!

Larry Carlton's guitar solo on Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne" ranks among my favourite solos right now... For sheer originality alone, it stands out as a great solo. But his fluid playing style and perfect phrasing and timing is truly outstanding

Lead bass, lead lead guitar, lead rhythm guitar, and lead drums - one of my favorite lineups in music. Two versions of the same song. Second version sounds better, but the video production is a little arty, and it's hard to see the playing.

And another from the same vintage as the first. The man to watch is Robert Fripp, seated at right, even thought they don't close up on him very much until 2:30-3:00.

Yet another great one from the "all lead" band. This is one of my favorite tracks.

I believe he went blind when a child (eye cancer at the age of one). You don't really need eyes to learn an instrument but a good ear is essential, even with eyes.

Yeah, I would assume from the funny playing style Jeff Healey has that he was blind when he learned. If you were an accomplished guitarist and went blind later, you'd just keep playing the way you always had. Of course, it's possible he learned that way anyway (viz Jimi Hendrix and Elizabeth Cotton) but it's more likely not.

Love the Crimso, Duke 👍 I only recently got into 'Discipline' - always been more of an early 70's prog-rock man myself, and have shyed away from more recent prog (or just more recent music in general!) - however, 'Discipline' (hardly new now, of course!) is an astonishing album, and the live version of the title track which appears on the album 'Absent Lovers' is superb. My fav track is probably 'Frame by Frame'. Bob Fripp has long been a favourite of mine, not just because he's a great guitarist, but because of his visionary originality. He does sound like a bit of a bossy-boots though, but then again, he is married to Toyah Wilcox, so I reckon he's met his match :sly:

I kind of skimmed thru this tread and didn't see any "Females" in it with that said I think Nancy Wilson of Heart can play a pretty mean guitar with a lot of passion.

Speaking of bassists...
More John Entwistle. It's Won't Get Fooled Again, but with the bass isolated.

We've seen that before. But, what's fun to do with it is take this clip... http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rp6-wG5LLqE and open it in a new window and run both clips at the same time adjusting the volume and briefly hitting pause to sync the songs together. I just did it and it was pretty cool!

I'm surprised Rodrigo y Gabriela aren't in this thread. They are incredible, talented like Hendrix, both of them. I went to see them live and I've never been to a gig like it.

V.
