Who else hates the Cape Ring?

This thread makes me all kinds of angry. What game are you guys playing? Cape Ring on my copy of GT5 is so much fun.

:banghead:

Cape Ring is one of those examples of Gran Turismo where I think the track designer team at PD must be some sort of collective Dr. Jekkil and Mr. Hyde.

Cape ring has some pretty awesome sections, looks and feels like something that could exist IRL. Original creation by Dr. Jekyll I'm sure

Then, probably at night ... Mr Hyde took over and finished the track! And that's when disaster struck. Stupid, unnecessary, childish, arcadish disaster.

A big jump that would destroy any car (Mr. Hyde clearly left his fingerprint in the old Seattle and the newer Eiger tracks also ) and a Karrousel structure that no sporting organism would ever allow in a racing venue, unless we're talking of theme parks for kids.

It's a pity. Especially coming from a team that designed the most amazing and complete test track I have ever seen, with corners of all types and radius, elevation changes, chicanes, long straight leading to tight hairpin ... everything ... and without JUMPS and TUNNELS and BRIDGES ...

Here, behold:

Sign me right up on that one. Who the **** came up with the idea of that track? I mean, how did they ever applaud the guy who dumped into the meeting saying 'Ehrm, guys. How about making a track that looks like a rollercoaster ride'

I like it's periphery configuration the best. Followed by the inside.

The north, south, and full configurations are boring has hell by the way.

This is exactly how I feel about it, it has some good sections, but then it gets a little ridiculous.

I really don't like the large Karrousel with the jump. It's like they ran out of ideas of what to do with the track space, or thought they needed some 'signature' feature for the track to be a success. Honestly this isn't Mario Kart or F-Zero...

The other point of contention for me is the quadruple apex corner taken right off the Turkey F1 circuit. I'm all for applying inspiration from famous real life corners for fantasy tracks, but at least change it up a bit to give it a new twist. I'd rather be playing F1 2010 and going through it on the full Turkey circuit, than having to master a cheap imitation.

The rest of the circuit has a good flow to it, and I do enjoy racing on the Cape Ring. I just think that some design decisions weren't thought through enough or integrated well into the rest of the circuit however. The result is a track that feels like a cut-and-paste job due to a lackluster layout.

The Cape Ring has nothing to do in a "simulator" like GT5. When have you ever seen a tarmac course made for high speed racing with a jump that makes you fly 100 meters? Totally unrealistic.

I don't get peoples issues with Cape Ring not being realistic. Plenty of other GT5 circuits have elements that you'd never find on a real life circuit. The jump and the banked carousel are stretching reality a little far, but how many other 'original Gran Turismo' circuits have huge bridges, long tunnels, poor run-off areas etc, etc that you'd also never get IRL? Seattle circuit (not in GT5 i know) has even more ridiculous jumps and Autumn Ring also has a cross-over full loop section - yet i've never seen the same amount of moaning about them.

Seattle was a city track, and obviously not meant for high speed racing, like cape ring is. I know other GT tracks have had some of the same issues, but I expected GT5 to contain more realism than earlier editions, but insted they implemented a brand new ring with the same stupidity, and also removed courses like Apricot Hill and midfield which actually could have been race tracks. And Autumn ring is booring, but the cross over? what is unrealistic about it? Suzuka has one also, and that is a real track...

Ha ha I love Cape Ring. I love all the different versions, the scenery in the distance, the undulations, the esses...

the only thing I don't like about it is the Ai. They can't friggin' drive here, especially the "ring" part. I'm finding I'm having to detune 20-30 horsepower at Cape Ring (any version) just to find some competitive racing.

Apricot Hill was realistic yet very dull to race on. Midfield was a great circuit, but do you honestly think cutting a tunnel through a mountain to accommodate a race circuit is any more realistic than anything seen at Cape Ring?

:odd: Seattle had some very high speed sections, so i don't understand what you are getting at with that point.

There is no scenery at Cape Ring, it looks like it's set on a mountain top.

I absolutley think so, of course. If one rich ass dude wants a race car track to go through a mountain, he will. It is not any law of physics that says otherwise.

What I meant is that, the seattle track, is supposed to replicate a city enviroment. But, i agree that it is just as unrealistic that there will ever be a held a race event in a city enviroment like the one on the Seattle circuit.

I used to hate it 'til we started doing Elise 111R RM races on the North and South versions seperately. Ever since then, it's been one of my fav's.

I love the whole track, it really pushes you to drive smoothly and follow a good line to keep any hope of setting a good time.
The only part wish they didn't have on the track was that damn jump. I like to watch the replays after I race, and that jump just feels completely out of place in a game that calls itself a Sim. A Murcielago should not jump 20ft into the air only to land smoothly and continue on.

I don't hate it at all, I like to try out some new courses but Hockenheim or other F1 courses such as Imola or Melbourne would've been nicer.

Love the cape, especially the full course. You need rythym to make it around consistently. My favorite track in the game.

I like the track. i only hate the 'jump/bump" in it. i personally don't like the carousel turn either, but its good to have "unique" turns. i like the last turns of the full course. (after the carousel)it has a nice flow.
