Why does no one like Justin Bieber

...Including crap voices like Beibers.
A lot of the old 'Classic Rock' didn't use as much as you think.
If you were actually around during those times you might have realized that.

60 years ago there was good music with good singers, and no mixing boards.
40 years ago was the same, but the mixing boards were used and altered mainly the instrumental sounds. So we still had good singers.
20 years ago we had LOADS of crap singers that only sounded good because they started using more comprehensive mixing boards to change vocals.

2011 and although there are some with real good singing talent, we still have a load of crap singers.

There aren't many new artists these days that can sound good singing live.
Justin Beiber is one of those who can't. He only sounds good to some because his vocals are altered with a mixing board.
Well said, 👍

You act as if 'Classic Rock' is a genre. It isn't, its just the same as rock nowadays except its aged. People call Black Sabbath classic rock all the damn time, and they loaded down on the distortion like a mother ****er. Classic rock is a snobby name for rock n' roll.

As for Biebers 'crap voice' it really isn't that bad.

If you look at any of his live footage you can tell he really isn't that bad. Is his music good? To me, hell no. But he isn't a bad singer.

As for very little modern singers that can sound good.. You ain't looking man because I could sit down and make a pretty damn long list of modern singers in various rock bands that can sing as well as any rock band from the 50's, 60's, 70's. I don't need to be around then to listen to those bands, there is this old thing called recordings which allow you to listen to stuff played in the past.

Before someone goes on about how I'm hating on older music, the 70's is probably my favorite decade of music. But to say everything in the last 20's years is vocally crap shows little you try. You always hear parents say to there kids to open there musical horizons, well those parents should try doing it themselves.

And just because someone uses a voice alteration device doesn't mean they lack talent or can't sing. It means they are trying something else, yes a lot of artist use autotune, but even more artist don't use it. Music is subjective, people like different things much like people like to have sex in different positions, or like different foods.

Try listening to some stuff before you knock it.

EEEWWW! I saw that face and threw up! :yuck:

No way in heck I'm watching that video-I've heard enough girls singing today.

You realize this makes you look like more of a child than the Bieber fangirls, right?

Camaroyenko
What exactly are you implying, sir?

Have you read his and my posts? Basically, you make a claim, I debunked it but you continue to ignore evidence I provided and make names in a very child like manor.

He's not implying anything. He's quite clearly and accurately stating that your comment makes you look childish.

You're twenty years old but you talk like you've been in the music industry for twenty years.
A few facts for you.

Firstly I never said modern singers DO NOT sound good, and never said they lack talent.
I implied that many use mixers to enhance the sound of their vocals.
Many new versions of albums and tracks recorded years ago, to as recently as 1992/93
have been 'Re-mastered', meaning they have been re-recorded through a digital studio.
The chances are that unless you OWN an original recording you're likely to be listening to a re-mastered version.

Digital mixing boards have been around for less than twenty years, with ONE distinct advantage over analogue...
Digital signal processing is used to perform automatic vocal mixing on live broadcasts and performances.
This type of equipment is now commonplace throughout the music industry.
Used to enhance a singers voice that would normally come across as bland and out of key.

"And just because someone uses a voice alteration device doesn't mean they lack talent or can't sing."
- So you're admitting that Beiber uses one to alter his voice? A bland voice that is out of key?

"Try listening to some stuff before you knock it."
Just because I'm older than you doesn't mean I only ever listen to stuff like Elvis Presley or the Beatles. DON'T judge me.

Debunk this;

Why does this sound better when played through a high-end audio system than the Lady Ga-Ga video you posted?

One sounds like an old drunk black dude who smokes too much and the other sounds like a robotic transvestite screeching thru a pillow.

How do you get that impression? Because I have an opinion?

And plenty of modern musicians sound just as good live as they do in studio. If you really want me to I could spam this thread with examples.

Yep, and Megadeth is one of those bands that seem to re-master everything. Yet their original stuff sounds much better. But since they have some re-mastered stuff they must suck! I don't care if there is enhancements for recordings and such, as long as they still sound good live.

No, your putting words in my mouth.

That was directed (should used an @) at Cameroyenko
But anyways, you should try quoting people without putting words in their mouth.

'Sounding better' is very subjective. But robotic transvestite screeching through a pillow? Where did you get that? I honestly don't know what you are trying to get at. I'm not trying to either one is better, what I'm trying to say is that people are going on endlessly how bad some musicians are quoting nothing but fallacy's.

You guys act like this is a game of whose better.

It's quite clear from that video that his natural voice is quite good (even if he looks and sounds several years younger than he is), he could quite easily cut it with a voice like that without auto tune, then perhaps people would respect him a bit more.

I haven't ever heard him use autotune. Of course I've only heard like 2 or 3 of his songs.

For crying out loud, the only people that like Justin Bieber are female (or my friend Spencer)< but that's besides the point. Why does everyone hate Justin Bieber? There really is no logical answer. Think about it, George Bush is out of power, Michael Jackson's dead, the world is running out of people to make fun of. So why not hate a 16-year old whose voice is as high as Celine Dion's? I know why I do. Because in my opinion, he makes my country (Canada) look bad. People when they think of Canada go Maple Syrup, Ice Hockey, Beavers, and that singer that hasn't hit puberty or probably had a sex change -Justin Bieber. Let it be known he is NOT Canadian. Canadians are industrious, hard working, humble people. When the rest of the world drives Escalades, we're driving Chevy S-10's. Basically Bieber doesn't represent my country, and for people to think of Canada and picture him, makes me sick. Thats why I don't like him. Plus I've listened to his music, and Brother-Superior is spot on. It sucks.

+1 👍

I'm thinking of emigrating because the UK sucks.
How do you feel about having a new neighbour? ;)

That post makes no sense whatsoever. Most people don't even seem to realize that he is Canadian. People who judge countries by the music they put out don't deserve to have an opinion.

I'm quite sure Bieber has hit puberty, as he is 17. Five years after I started shaving.

If his voice has broken it hasn't done it particularly well...

Can't believe he's essentially a Year 12/13.

What I'm trying to get at is one sounds live, as if you're sitting at a bar hearing the performance while the other sounds flat with a strange echo despite being in a small room.

It gets to the point of effects; are they being used to supplement the singer's voice, like adding pepper to a steak to make it taste better, or is it being used to mask a poor singing voice?

Listen to the pitch change it its voice and listen to the amplitude NOT change. That's compression. The reverb just sounds cheap...

I don't have my nice headset plugged into the computer to really compare the two. But to me Lady Gaga doesn't sound flat at all. And after going and listening to other videos of her I'm still not getting it. I could just be the recording devices that are cheap but I doubt it. Honestly, I think there is no way to tell unless you were to listen to her sing in person without a mic.

Same applies to Bieber. Invite him over to sing at home for you this xmas. No mic, no mixer or edited video, and then you would know for sure.

I'm talking about dynamic range, headroom, and things changing amplitude instead of every breath sounding the same at the same volume. She doesn't sound human.

While it's true that just about every modern production uses some form of effects to make the music sound good on any sound system, it's just that vocalists, such as the ga-ga, use these effect to such extremes it makes me wonder if they can really sing at all. Put into car terms; it's like all the electronic assists making you feel like a hero when you're really not.

No offense, but you may not know what to listen for. If you listen to a Sheffield Labs recording on a nice system and listened to the 'performers' mentioned in this thread afterward; you'd probably puke and wonder how someone can listen to something recorded so poorly.

The question I'm asking is; "is it a coincidence that Ga-Ga is so over-processed or are the producers compensating for her mediocre singing voice?" If I had to guess, it's the latter.

Hmm... I'd say it's the former. I don't love her music, but she's got some pipes.
