WRC officially in Gran Turismo 5!

I'm with most of you guys. The WRC really needs to be good :(

I hope that 'sliding race' shown in the E3 trailer isn't what the rallying will look like in the full game.

What you say??

Most people have fallen in love with the E3 trailer, and think it would make the game quite realistic. I sure do. Will it be as good as real life, or Richard Burns Rally? I don't know, but some people can never be happy with a Gran Turismo game. I've found Prologue to be remarkably similar to my racing sims in feel and handling, and GT5 is reputed by a couple of members here to be even better. But we'll see.

I still can't believe that no one is interested in the remarks Kazunori-dono made about including Championships in GT5. I'm really excited by the prospect of having a lengthy challenge, and not having to hunt for an online racing league to enjoy it. Online, you have to keep a schedule, and us adults often can't do that. Offline, you can race in GT when it suits your available free time.

Anyone else remotely interested in this prospect?

Remotely? I'm salivating myself every time I think about the E3 trailer, the WRC logo in the corner and my beloved RS WRC 08 and the beautiful S14. I'm not hoping for much, since my experience with rally events in GT tells me that it won't be as good as RBR and I don't think they'll nail the gravel physics as good as they do with tarmac, but it's still great. It'll probably be like a perfect match for RBR, since in this game tarmac physics are utter crap, but the gravel is perfect.

As for championship - I too enjoy the good single player challenge with some split screen and occasional multiplayer action. But I prefer racing with friends, since not only the schedules in online leagues can be a pain - also the "bot-like aliens" racing there, knowing every rock on the track (not really rally-style), can be much of a enjoyment killer.

All in all - I dream of a split screen battle with my friend (say - Focus vs. Impreza :D) on a NS as soon as possible after the premiere. Just because we can and WRCs are great on tarmac too :D

As much as I enjoy the online racing, I'm also very interested in that prospect.

I'm interested in both, get destroyed online... making up for it in single player xD

Yes, but i need to know how its done.
Im actually not even slightly hyped for things like that, because in the end it will be completely different than i thought anyway.

I have been playing dirt2 since it's demo. I find the physics and drive-ability pretty good. Not sure about it's accuracy though.

Would you guys think dirt2 physics would suffice for GT5 WRC?

Well first thank god that we'll have gt5 physics in gt5's WRC mode :P Even if dirt2 (only tried the demo though) feels kinda good it's still really arcadey for my taste.

Yeah Dirt 2 is too arcadey for me as well. Sure its takes a good amount of effort to put down a fast lap but the cars just do not respond naturally. After RBR no rally game feels realistic. I am almost certain that with GT5s updated physics WRC in GT5 will be very realistic.

While I'm not a Sim enthunsiast myself, I'd prefer that not happen. Would just seem off to have sim like physics for the other forms of racing while having a arcadey style for Rally.

i hope not.. they should look at Richard Burns rally or at least at WRC4.

The physics from WRC Evolved were pretty cool, yes.
I also loved how you could play the game as an arcade racer like DiRT, or as a pretty difficult simulation, with adjusting the driving aids.

I know weather might not be imperative to the whole game, it is part of rallying so hope it's at least in the WRC section with day/night cycle.I'd be happy with that, although everyone else might think different.I wouldn't mind seeing special effects like splattering mud, muddy water up over the car, snow covered windscreens and ace rain effects etc on the rally cars.Would be good to have working water jets, for washing the weather off the screen & headlights. The special effects were good at the time in WRC 4 with rain & snow etc but there just wasn't a lot of it.

I understand about the arcady feel with a controller, but have you guys tried with a wheel? It's probably not accurate, but it sure feels natural.

I hope the rally mode doesn't revolve around two or more cars running around a track like in previous GT's, because that has nothing to do with rallying.

The handling was also very unreal, it has that sliding on ice feel.

But since prologue is miles better than GT4 on the handling department, i hope they improve a lot on this front.

Kill it with fire!

No Codemasters developed arcadey physics near my sparkling Gran Turismo 5!
As paulpg87 mentioned before - PD should look at Richard Burns Rally for gravel physics (they already have the asphalt nailed. And RBR's is useless). Don't know about WRC4's one, but even if it's less realistic it's ok - after all we need a standard, more "fun" mode too :).

Another thing - I like the few glimpses I had on rally tracks in the recent GT PSP videos. They don't look so "invisible-walled", so there is hope for at least half-decent rallying in GT5 if they won't screw up the physics.

I hope they have a mix of the actual p2p timed rally as well as the 1 on 1 battles as it adds some variety.

I firmly believe if WRC is officially licensed in the game, then its "out-the-door" with the old Rally ways of GT and the racing will represent how WRC is to the fullest. It only makes sense.

No way will it be official WRC cars but racing the same way all GT rally before has been....

Are we being a little presumptuous by pre-judging about the outcome of the game. Shouldn't we judge after the game comes out. Well that is my opinion.

Not you personnally, but however we should wait for the game to come out for us to see if the game will be a full season ride or certain events.

Fine, but that doesn't mean people should not be free to speculate and get excited about what might (or might not) be. By your analogy, this entire forum should not exist until GT5 comes out.

Excuse my ignorance (my knowledge of WRC is very limited) but is

1.) the pikes peak competition part of WRC?

Nope, its been a seperate event of its own for years.

2.) can cars such as the monster XL7
(http://rundeautochat.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/01-hill-climb-suzuki-sx4-sport.jpg) sucessor to the famed Escudo, beat the strongest/fastest WRC rally cars on a given rally circuit (7 famous rally circuits to show who is the winner)?

It definately could given the power & downforce it has

3.) If it can beat the current ones, can it beat the group B cars?

Might be close as according to what I know, Group B cars were much more powerful then today's cars.

It wouldn't be close. Group B cars were more powerfull but many of them arn't actually as fast on the tracks as the current cars are and if any actually are then the difference isn't big. A Pikes Peak unlimited class machine like the Escudo, Millen Tacoma and Celica and the XL7 would absolutely hammer a Group B rally car on or off road.

Aren´t you guys a bit worried that PD making also a WRC mode will be a waste of time and effort? I was just checking some WRC 4 gameplay and man that game was awesome! Well designed and long stages, great graphics (the only thing i´m not worried PD will pull off), great sound (ehm..) and some nice physics. Even WRC 3, which i played and finished was awesome. I would really love to see Evolution Studios making a WRC game again because i doubt PD could spend that much time with this "mode". Instead i´m worried it will only have a handful of tracks and not much dept. Of course i would love to find out that i am wrong :) And since we haven´t seen much of that new WRC game my concerns are still high, especialy after watching that WRC 4 gameplay just now. What do you gus think?

Also feel free to correct my grammar..at least i will learn something because i found that i can´t speak english..especialy after been in this forum for a while :D

I think it will be as deep as NASCAR will be. And I personally can't see either one agreeing to be featured in the game without including what most of us would find to be an acceptable amount of depth. I hope so.
