Zakspeed's DTM Volvo C70 entry.
Wasn't allowed to compete, however.

I haven't found a single mention of it yet. It looks interesting!

Also, it's amazing how much prettier and cooler the Matiz is with a bit of black "eyeliner" around the lamps, and a 2CV-style roof.

I'd heard of the EV1 and it's ridiculous that GM crushed virtually all of them. Everyone that ever drove them loved it and proclaimed it the future... and then GM killed them and gave up on EV technology until the Volt came along. Just imagine how far they could have got with the concept had they bothered continuing with it...

Their is a thing called the oil industry that didn't want people driving electric cars... Atleast, not until they got into that buisness.

-> As far as I remember, back when it was an entirely new model (1998). I saw this micro car back in the Philippines as a gray-market import. And to tell you guys honestly, I like it better than the Smart Fortwo. :)

Fiat 600 Multipla, able to fit 6 passengers in a footprint only 20 inches longer than the classic Mini. Does 0-50 in 43 seconds!

it looks more aerodynamic backwards!
anyway, iv recently looked into the work of designer pietro frua, he did all kinds of fancy european coachbuilding, among others. he was fond of a sharp nose and fastback look as you can tell!

now im not saying they ripped his idea, but bertones 69 iso lele, 67 alfa montreal, 70 lamborghini jarama were quite similar in style!

full list and pics of his cars here!

that is crazy! I wonder if he had a bunch of front clips lying around his shop that he put on all his cars after he was done with all the other modifications :dopey:

McLaren M6/GT '69 (only 3 were built)

Was the Bruce McLaren's personal road car.

For a car from 1969 is lines are very clean and futuristic!

^Amazing! If Mosler or Ultima put their logo onto that, it could probably pass for a brand new machine!

Here's an interesting one I've been looking at.
The catchily titled Guest, Keen & Nettlefold Ferguson Formula Four-Wheel Drive 100 (GKN FFF100).

This is how the car was meant to look and was designed by William Towns of Aston Martin:

And how it turned out in '72:

Apparently, they ran out of time when building the car, and the design wasn't completely followed. The bonnet bulge became something which seems to be nothing more than some steel bars!

Apparently the car was commissioned to test new parts like the new four-wheel drive system, and the car was a modified Jensen with a Chrysler V8 I believe.

Here's a little article I found on the Internet about it.

Apparently, the company were going to work on the fuel injection to get it to break more records but the whole project faded away without a trace. Looks like they ran out of funding for the project.

The car wasn't completely forgotten though, as articles I've read reference the fact that although the car was completely ignored in the UK after the initial record attempt, the engineers at Audi did take notice of what the car did... and then used their knowledge in the creation of the quattro!

12.2 seconds for the 0-100-0 in the wet? When a Caterham isn't much faster in the wet, and an Ultima GTR (also 4WD, but lighter and more powerful) "only" does 9.8s? Something odd... Today's tyres are a major factor for the improved speeds.

:odd: Ultima's are RWD. The figures still don't add up though, even if the GKN FFF had an early form of ABS and traction control, which the Ultima hasn't, it still weighs half a tonne more and has 120bhp less. An Enzo does it in 11 second and a Macca F1 in 11.5.

My mistake, then - I was sure it said 4WD somewhere.

The SM isn't quite that super of a car, and a very famous car at the same time! The Maserati links were new to me when I first bothered reading about it, though. I saw one of those in Berlin a few years ago, and I love that car ever since - such a beautiful design, and so much innovation... Though I guess maintenance is hell on these things.

Saw this in the questionable modifications thread, looks better without the anime stickers.

Apparently Yamaha wanted to expand even more in the early 90's.

Not a car I didn't know existed, but a paint job:

DSC_0908.jpg

Was talking to an Alfa salesman today and asked about this colour that all the red Alfas at the British Motorshow were in last year. Apparently, it's a special finish known as "Rosso Competizione" and costs fifteen thousand pounds. You can't buy an Alfa in this colour in the UK because the logistics for repairs are nightmarish - the car must be shipped back to Italy for it to be repainted, and one of the paint stages is to allow the finish to dry naturally for three weeks.

It is an absolutely gorgeous finish though, the best colour I've seen on any car full stop. And amusing that it doubles the price of a MiTo...
