Dear Kaz, why have you abandoned us?It's to the point where I'm expecting things to get worse, rather than better. Personally, I think "faith" is too strong a word now, considering PD/Kaz have been strumming to their own tune, cordoned off somewhere since GT5. They refuse to look at the older games in their own franchise, let alone what the competition is doing.
So, to answer the question, whether I think faith is too strong a word or not: yes? I said to myself after GT Sport, that I wouldn't jump on the next installment until reviews were out. I was pulled in on the premise that GT7 was a return to series norms, when it isn't even a return to the end state of GT Sport. Suffice to say, that won't happen next time.
GT Sport was the end of the road for me, as I have not and probably will not, be buying GT7.Here's my question for the GTPlanet community, does GT7 represent the end of the road for you? If not, how badly has your faith been shaken in the franchise and do you trust PD to restore the series to its former glories?
He simply followed the path that pretty much all mainstream devs/publishers have taken. They simply see games as investments. A get-rich-quick scheme to land more in the coffers of the shareholders while simultaneously bleeding money from consumers by releasing half-baked, half finished products with bluster of "road maps" further down the line that may not even come to fruition.Dear Kaz, why have you abandoned us?
My faith isn't damaged in the least. And I'm loving the game.So I booted up GT7 yesterday and checked the Legendary Car Dealership. Spotted the Mercedes 300 SL for sale at a little over a million and thought this would be something worth grinding for. But then having completed the Menu Books with only a smattering of events left to complete, I just thought I can't be bothered engaging with this pointless grind anymore. Racing the same event for meagre payouts, just to win a car there's not even an appropriate event to use it in. The GT7 experience just feels incredibly hollow and seemingly rather pointless.
I think a lot of us would agree the last few months have been a very trying time as a Gran Turismo fan. I've been playing the series since 2000 and have always admired and respected the work of Polyphony Digital. GT4 represented the absolute pinnacle of the series, only for a steady decline to occur with subsequent instalments. However the brand damage done by GT7 has seriously shaken my faith in the developer. I no longer believe Kaz and his team are capable of creating a compelling "game" any more. Don't get me wrong, the "feel" of GT, the driving in itself, is still incredible. But the "game" side is just sorely lacking and hopelessly outdated. Unlike Sport mode, the PVE experience is woefully unsatisfying with no sense of competition thanks to it's hopelessly outdated chase the rabbit AI.
Personally I feel like I've reached a bit of a turning point with the series. I've just lost faith with the franchise having been repeatedly disappointed with recent instalments. Why is it so hard for PD to create a compelling campaign mode? If PD actually communicated with their community they would know what their audience demanded. I feel like a lot of the fans on GTPlanet understand what it is that makes a truly great Gran Turismo game. If only PD could be bothered to listen and take their opinions into consideration.
As much as I respect Kaz for all that he's done with GT as a franchise, I think it's time he passed the reins on to a new generation of developers. Either within Polyphony or further afield. Imagine what Evolution Studios could have done for example, given their excellent work on Drive Club. The series needs a fresh start and new perspectives to move forward. Otherwise the goodwill the brand has built up over the last 25 years will continue to be exhausted if the disappointments continue.

Personally I'll be taking a break from the franchise but will continue to keep an eye on things hoping for positive developments. Whether PD can restore my faith is another question entirely, but the fact is I simply don't think they're capable of fixing an inherently broken and downright boring game.
I look forward to the day that a game developer says anything remotely close to this. You are not forced to buy it at release, you are free to wait.
Why do you consider it rushed, it was late as I recall???Why is that? Is it hard to understand that it is a rushed release and a work in progress?
Because it is so obvious. Lacks so many 1p events, not many new tracks and cars, lobbies have a ton of non working features, and so onWhy do you consider it rushed, it was late as I recall???
Hell, I'd take GT6's career mode with glee at this point. Thought it was just a cash-grab at the time (well, still do...) but at least we had a massive car selection, they were staying current with new cars as they came out, and that was the last time we had a large offline career mode. Plus the online challenges, etc.My faith has been damaged since GT5 and 6. Sport was supposed to start making things right again and now we're right back at square one with GT7.
Major content updates aren’t coming in a week or two because it wasn’t ready. Their response to the outrage said improving rewards and adding 8 endurance race missions in beginning of april.Hell, I'd take GT6's career mode with glee at this point. It wouldn't be my ideal GT7, but just updating GT6 and bringing it to PS5 would be exponentially better than what we have now.
@CoenRSD I know PD/KAZ SAYS they are going to fix it, but unless they were just sitting on IB/IA/S races and events to drip-feed in the hopes no one would notice 3/5 of the game was missing (lol) I don't see them releasing enough content in time to tide people over.
I guess we'll find out in the next week or two, but my guess is they add 3-5 races, a couple cars, and do a mediocre job of rebalancing the economy. That is going to make a lot of people bail if true; the casual, non-Sport mode players aren't going to stick around for a year while they get this game into the state it should have been a month ago. So honestly, I'm hoping they were holding content back to drip-feed, otherwise there's no point in even logging in until this time next year.
Nah, it has not been rushed into release. It was released purposely like this. Drip feeding content is what live service does. It works fine when content is actually prepared and released with progress in mind. What is being done here is withholding content to release later and create the appearance of progress. True progress would be continuously changing up the races, tracks and cars for all of the events to keep them fresh. Adding new wheels, cars, body modifications, tracks, cars and decals are also great options. This is fake progress. Can you actually read what I posted? I'm defending that the hame should have been released months later... It has been rushed into release.
And you not being able to drive or tune some cars is irrelevant
Oh, I know... lol. Just saying hypothetically I'd rather find out they had all of the offline content made and were just holding it back even if it looks shady as hell, but it's quite apparent they just thought they could toss a beta/early access game out and finish it later.Major content updates aren’t coming in a week or two because it wasn’t ready. Adding more world circuit events, 24 hour races, or selling cars were no date items coming later. I’d even just take a quick copy pasted GT Sport cups that had like 300 races.
