Your faith in Gran Turismo - has it been permanently damaged?

No, not for me. I'm enjoying working through the menus and intend on revisiting them (if not new content has been released soon) using different cars, maybe up to Pro level and perhaps remove ABS. And as others have mentioned, maybe do some custom races to keep things fresh.

It's far from a perfect release of course, but I think there'll be some serious updates in the coming month or two. Far from end of the world, plus plenty of other stuff to play in the mean time if you;re that bored/p1ssed off with it.

Each to their own of course, but I don't understand the clamour from some to get a refund. You know this game will be great at some point (in the not too distant future).

If you aren't using the cars you already have why do you need more? What percentage of the cars you own have you even put one mile on?
Why do you assume I only use a limited number of cars? Who's to say I don't already drive a varied car roster?

Look I get it. You're a big fan of the series and for some reason feel compelled to defend GT7. Consider yourself lucky GT7 has met your expectations, in a way I'm almost envious. But for many us, afters years of constant disappointment and lack of community engagement in making a better game - that goodwill towards to the franchise has simply been exhausted. And that's a real shame because for me personally I've invested a lot of time and effort into this franchise over the course of two decades.

At times I wonder which franchise has the most beleaguered fans when it comes to diminishing returns. GT or Sonic? Any others come to mind?

The Battlefield series is in that category for me, due to my experiences with BFV and its support, and everything that has transpired since 2042s release.

What should they be doing, sending Kaz cookies?
Can I have cookie?

There was a really good local store, called The Cookie Guy, that baked cookies fresh and delivered them to your door while they were still warm.

Closed down due to the pandemic. Damn pandemic...

Because you haven't even beaten all the packaged content and you're complaining there isn't enough packaged content.

Do you really need someone else to put a shiny bow on it to enjoy the races? You can do a Gr 1 race easily at any track with custom races. You can even do a standing start if that's you're preference. If you need someone else to set the challenges for you I've got one. Do a one make race with every car in the game at every track. Bam! This one game will now last you the rest of your life!
Yes it will because your only going to make 5k per race.

There isn't enough packaged content that is engaging, rewarding, original and ultimately worth my time.

You've still yet to explain why you think this GT has the best campaign yet.

I didnt say it had the best campaign I said it's the best game. Best graphics, sound, physics, loading times, AI, tracks, cars, controller usage, etc. Your one complaint seems to be you aren't making enough pretend money for the races you are playing. So what? Use the cars you own before complaining about not being able to buy the cars you don't.

You said you want a gr1 championship. You can literally make your own in 1 minute.

Nah, they made some really stupid decisions to chase the money instead of launching a finished game, but it’s a good game at it’s core. They need to get bop and online lobbies sorted out then I will be a lot happier. I have 71 hours into this game and I’m sure it will hit over a 1000 one day.

yeah it was until the cafe finishes and your done license and missions and every race 3 to 50 times than u realise how boring it really is
So make your own custom races. Hitting a perfect lap in a Super Formula one make race is never boring.

I've had no faith in Gran Turismo since GT5, yet I keep buying them anyway. PD has an opportunity to turn it around by updating and polishing GT7 but again, thanks to GT5 and 6 I have very little faith that they actually will.

Defending GT7 is clearly a hill you're prepared to die on.

I'm throughly disappointed by the game, you're obviously enraptured by it. We have a difference of opinion, end of discussion.

Well that's where tge script comes in handy.

I know you shouldn't have to use it and some maybe scared about repurcussions, or prefer the grind/self progression but it takes a fair % of frustration out for some.

Make 500k a day or 5 mill a day... up to you.

You can then do whatever custome race, online etc without grinding directly yourself.

If you're going to stop playing tge game for those reasons, seriously consider using a script first.

The tools are there alleviate what I imagine is a frustrating experience for some. Don't be scared to take it into your own hands and use them.

I played them all as they were released except 6 because it came out too late in the life of the PS3.

The OP is complaining about the lack of single player events and yet he admits he hasn't even beaten all of the post menu races which are the best the game has to offer. Funny you should mention Sport as it has shown how we can expect literally hundreds of additional race events and cars to be added over time as well as probably dozens additional tracks/layouts.
The single player “races” in GT7 are the worst I’ve ever encountered in a racing game. Rolling starts for every single race, and huge gaps to the lead car because the AI is just… tragically bad. And this in the age of PS5 console power. It’s embarrassing.

The worst part is, PD could have made it incredible with a tiny bit of endeavour. Custom races on GT Sport are amazing with professional AI and an even field of cars on a grid start. Why they couldn’t give us a ton of races like that in GT7 remains a mystery; a by-numbers example of a game developer being utterly detached from its fan base.

I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it here:
Every single one of us here could create an outstanding GT Career mode given the chance, we all know what it takes, we could do it in a heartbeat. Yet PD have failed time and again since GT4. They are utterly delusional.

Some of the improvements coming in the updates will be there because people protested loudly. So there is a benefit to voicing discontent about a product, especially if you’ve paid decent money for it.

You (and all the others who didn’t complain, and even those who complain about the complainers) will benefit from those changes too. A bit of gratitude wouldn’t go amiss.

P.S. What’s a ‘negative nancy’? I’ve only ever heard ‘nancy’ used as a homophobic slur.
Which ones? From what I've seen, the only thing the protests did was raise payouts to what they were before, in some instances hopefully much more. The free $1M for compensation for downtime but I can see it being argued as "payment" to quiet us down.
The rest, the events, track layouts, etc, that was already planned. This is a live service game after all.

Yet PD have failed time and again since GT4. They are utterly delusional.
Not sure delusional is the word but whatever they're doing sure isn't in line with what people have been asking for.

You know how I know you haven't beaten the game? That simply isn't true. There are standing start races in the campaign. You can also create custom races in GT7 if you weren't aware.

Depending on how feature-rich sims of the next couple years get (I'm looking at you, Kunos), this is likely my last Gran Turismo purchase.

I'm just fed up with PD's half-assed design ethos. The carbon paints and engine swaps are the most beautiful and hilarious examples of this. Sure, they're available, but only in the highly-restrictive and turbo lame way that is typical of Polyphony Digital. 11 whole engine swaps, golly gee willickers Dorothy, we're still in Kansas! What'd they do for five years? Don't even get me started on how jank Custom Races are, because even I've tried using that as a defense before. AI defaulting to factory tyres, only using 90-95% throttle, rubberbanding or just straight up not knowing how to drive.. are we being real with ourselves here?

That's only the start. Thankfully I enjoy actually driving the cars for the most in this game so that's keeping me going, but even that is all outta whack sometimes.. in typical PD fashion.

I won't mention how Gran Turismo has now turned into a $90 F2P/gacha-like experience complete with Shark Cards.. oh, I just did. Oops.

The Gran Turismo series needs its Naoki Yoshida moment and it needs it very, very quickly.

Of course I haven’t. I refunded the game soon after launch, thankfully.
I completed all menus and never once seen a grid start. That alone says it all, as grid starts should be the default with only special races being rolling starts.

Custom races in GT7 pay insulting amounts, rendering them pointless. All that effort for a slap in the face? I don’t think so.

I think I saw a total of maybe 4 standing start races outside of the menus.

For about the past 2 weeks I've had literally nothing to do in Gran Turismo 7.

I went through (gold) all 39 menus, all missions, all license tests, all circuit experiences and all world circuit races in the span of less than 20 hours, and in those 20 hours I also grinded the pre-1.07 Fisherman's Ranch about 50 times to grind for the Jaguar XJ13 (which later I couldn't get because of the 1.07 update).
In the middle I also did a couple of Sport Races just for the hell of it. However, I am mostly, a single-player gamer, so I won't be enjoying online any time soon. The only time I'm forced to play online is if there are some trophies related to it (which this game has but I can do them later).

That was it... not even 20 hours and I had beaten everything that PD designed for me over
THE LAST 9 YEARS (I can't stress this enough), and left me with the only thing to do being... to collect all the cars for that 100% game completion. However, to do that, I have to waste hundreds of hours of my life grinding the same races over and over because PD couldn't put enough content for me to naturally progress in the game, and left it all to "we will update some more later".
And if I decide to play online against other players or play by myself using the "custom race" feature, the time I need to get all those cars is up by the thousands of hours. No one but no-lifes or content creators have time for this, and they are but the 0.1%.

NO!!! I paid 80€ for this f* game. I want nothing but an absolute finished product, with updates just being extra DLC and not the actual career mode events, those have to be in the game in day 1.

Imagine other AAA games like The Last of Us or Horizon just giving you 1/4th of the campaign at launch and leave the rest for "lolupdates"??? The backlash those games would receive would be astronomical. For good reason.

9 Years since GT6... NINE. And what do I get?

-Less than 20 hours of career mode, which is way less than it's "beta/prologue" version (GT Sport);

-Event payouts so shockingly low across the board to force players to use micro-transactions;
-424 cars of which over 100 of them are fake generated cars or duplicates, and over 300 are carried over from GT Sport;
-Online gameplay that is worse than it's "beta/prologue" version (GT Sport);
-AI so horrendously bad that pretty much all of the races in this game have you starting at the back, in some cases 40 seconds behind, without any option of free practice and more importantly, qualifying, before a race. All this to give you the wrong idea that it's "competitive" when it's really not.
-Inability to sell any cars for the first time in any GT main title... Which is only going to be implemented in the game later because the backlash was heard throughout the entire gaming community.
-A "Next Gen" game that has mid-life PS4 level graphics... You can only get those amazing graphics in photo mode and replays and not enjoy during gameplay which is absolutely ridiculous. They didn't even gave us the option to play the game like that... Ludicrous.
-Marketing pre-game launch "engine swaps"... That ended up being a feature locked behind roulette spins that are rigged to give you the lowest payout 9 out of 10 times.

-Music Rally... ...................... bruh.... .......................

How am I supposed to NOT BE disappointed with GT7 when most of it's core features are DOWNGRADES in relation to every other game PD themselves have released so far?

Only good thing I got from GT7 is that I finally got to know a bit about scripting.
