Using the fall-back that we still get 1000+ cars, which no other game has done, isn't quite fair though. It's like saying that upon release, the PS3 had by far the world's largest game library... because it had backwards compatibility. Yeah, we're getting a ton of cars, but the people who are let down by this are let down because the time has passed for essentially getting a game that's mostly made up of ported-over GT4 content. If this were 2007 or 2008, it'd be a bit more accepted. Late 2010 isn't.

KY has passion, but I hope from now on he has someone above him that keeps his over-reaching ambitions in check.

We have not come up with this belief out of nowhere. They carefully selected what to show us so we did exactly what they wanted. They mislead us into digging our own hype grave. We are the ones who dug it, sure, but they made sure we were clueless about it. And why? For the love of god why? To kill us with disappointment?

Disappointment is in the eye of the beholder. I am far from disappointed 👍 Im sorry you are disappointed hopefully when you play the game all that can change. :)

You do realise.. That Sony takes care of most the buildup and PR for PD.
Not only that but EVERY game wants to show the best cards in their hands first.
Did turn10 show gameplay of interiors that didn't work during the game's PR? No. They showed off mainly the cars that were new and had obviously had the most attention to detail put towards them.
It's not just GT/PD/Sony doing this. Game's show their best, and try to avoid showing their faults before release. I was actually surprised when I saw that video being released so soon.

Oh c'mon, there's nowhere near the amount of quality difference in Forza's models as there are in GT5's. You're right about games trying not to show faults, but those faults typically don't consume 80% of the game's biggest feature.

See that's the thing about Hype. Not everyone fall for it and it's your own fault if you do.
And what do you mean "us". I'm far from disappointed. It's still 1000 cars (with my favourite GT4 cars still there) with a brilliant physics engine and some pretty interesting features I'm looking forward to.

Yes, because there were SO MANY people on these forums prior to E3 saying "the quality of the cars they've been showing us for the past 5 years is only existent in 20% of the actual car lineup!"

/sarcasm

I'm sorry but this 80% of the cars doesn't equate to 80% of the game. There are tons of other things in the game im looking forward to. Day and night/ GT mode (my favourite mode of any racing game) / Online play / wonderful physics and all the new stuff that we've been hearing about lately (but yet to be confirmed) weather / track editor / cutomization. I'm sure PD spent alot more time on those features than they did on those 800 cars.

👍 No doubt I cant wait to drive some of my favorite GT4 cars in Hi def glory and new physics, But what bugs me out is i still have the option to play with the 200 most beautiful cars in any game with great features. I am overwhelm i don't know what to do first

Stupid me. Believing in a game developer. I must be out of my mind.

I did not say 80% of the game. I said 80% of the game's biggest feature (the cars, in case you didn't know).

My bad. didn't see that ^^. Then fairpoint. although the game's biggest feature is quite opinion driven thing. Personally I think it's the physics/gameplay.

The irony in your sarcasm is that, unfortunately, in today's world, it's starting to become true. :indiff:

I've always loved GT for the car selection 👍

No doubt i wouldn't say just that but any sales pitch bro i'm A personal trainer and i get people hype about loosing weight getting stronger feeling better about themselves, however when i tell them its going to be 1200 for training they look at me like i'm trying to screw them

It's already true for most of them. I thought PD was an exception. You saw what happened.

They did have this standard and premium talk last year, how majority of the cars where going to come straight from GT4. I don't know how long you have been following the site though.

$1200? You should see how many times people get mad about being charged 50 cents for a side of Ranch dressing

I remember the standard/premium announcement, but I do not recall them saying that they'd be using GT4 assets. Anybody have a source or link? I'm curious now.

Which brings me back to this. Would you have been happier with 300 odd "premium" models all on their own for GT5 or the current situation where you have a fair chunk of premium models and all your old favourites? I think PD just did what was their best option. It's quite clear that creating a premium car takes a fair chunk of time for PD and that If they didn't opt for this plan the game would've ended up similar to how GT3 was.

!!! I think that where PD kept quiet and thats why its a huge uproar of people being pissed.

I remember that. I also remember how nobody thought that "improved GT4 cars" meant GT4 photomode cars.

Look at this: Straight from the official website:

The massive lineup of cars from past Gran Turismo games has been beautifully recreated through the latest technology and the Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics.

"Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics."

Give me a break.

I honestly think I would be happier with 300 premium models, since I never had a problem with GT1 and GT3's car counts. However, GTs 2 and 4 have definitely soaked up more of my hours...I dont know if thats because of the cars or not though.

Yeah they're pushing it quite a bit with that statement.

Random sidenote...I've been playing GT2 lately and realized that they had turbo BOV sounds back then (yeah I'm late to the party on this one, I know). Why did they take those out?

Again you are only looking at it from the graphic point they are improved GT4 cars. They look way better then GT4 on the PS2, New physics which is going to be amazing, new damage system mechanic and visual. those are improved GT4 cars IMO 👍

They have BOV sound in GT4 and GT5P what do you mean?

The cars do look better in GT5's engine, but like I said earlier...the moment that standard cars video starting rolling, I immediately thought I was watching clips of GT4. That's not the feeling I want after 6 years of waiting and playing on a much more powerful set of hardware. It'll be fun as a throwback mode, and to try out the old cars in better physics, but that's about it IMO. I'm likely going to spend most of my time behind the wheel of premiums.

Hmmm do they? I'm gonna have to go back and look. I cant freakin remember!!

It is really difficult to understand that all the cars in this game will be running on PS3 with brand new engine, designed for it

They were definitely not designed for the new engine. They were ported into it from GT4. But while that isn't hard to understand, your sentence sure was!

This is from offical GT website about standard car's!!!
"The massive lineup of cars from past Gran Turismo games has been beautifully recreated through the latest technology and the Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics"

The physics aren't tied to the cars though; the physics being improved has to do with the game's coding. GTPSP was the same issue; a ton of recycled cars on a new physics engine. That doesn't equal improved cars, its an improved foundation that they're placed in.

The damage system has to be rather limited because they're one-piece bodies. We don't know the extent to which S cars will be mechanically damaged... but it will probably be very similar to GT2. Which was 11 years ago. Some dirt and scratches are just a layer above the body.

I'm sure it'll still be fun. Just sad that after this long of a wait, the majority of the game is stuff we paid for half a decade ago.

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: I want GT5. Not GT4 HD. Thus, dropping all of the standard cars and going with a few more premium ones would have made me happier than what PD decided to go with. Far happier. And, well, seeing one of my former favourites (say the Amuse S2000 R1) being only a standard car wouldn't make me feel good, actually. I would feel gutted because I have to decide whether I want to drive a beautiful, highly detailed car with full damage or one of my old favourites which is, well, looking pretty crappy in comparison.

Besides, it rather seems to me that they were going for the additional standard cars to inflate the number of cars to a four digit number so they could claim to have more cars than anyone else. Not to grant us all of our 'old favourites'.

That's just me though.

Rendering engine alone don't make "Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics.". Polygon count and texture resolution are an essential part of "Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics."

Eeeeeeeeexactly. Though I suppose it's still not a bad thing to get to try old cars with better technology behind them.

Yeah :indiff: . 200 cars is enough to consider it a full game otherwise, just not the game we anticipated.

I've had that feeling as well.

Ditto. PREMIUM ONLY!
