PS3 General Discussion

So the consensus on UT3 is pretty good. I'll have to give it a try!👍
By the looks of it though I may have FPS games coming out my ears this Autumn/Winter with Halo 3, Haze and UT3.

I just watched a trailer for Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway on Gametrailers.com and it really looks like it might be the one FPS game that I go for...

I don't like games that are too finicky or punish you too heavily for mistakes early on... by the sounds of things, you have several options on how to proceed with the game, so you can experience the game without too much difficulty or correct mistakes you've made - or play it super-realistically and lead your company of men as it would have happened...

It looks to have a realism advantage over many other titles - based on actual events and historically/geographically accurate maps, I think I'd prefer to buy this than say Call of Duty 4 or GRAW2 (or is it 3 already?)...

Yeah, BiA is something no one talks about. But I do love a bunch of things about it, from the GRAW-like cover and tactical system, to the graphics (blowing up sandbags, making picket fences splinter, watching someone die in slo-mo when you throw a grenade at them), etc.

But you should get that, GRAW2, and CoD4 if you can. :)

Well anyone who wants to add me on their friends list can, and as of right now I'm about to go online on rainbow 6. Coop Terrorist hunt ftw....

Hey guys, can someone help me out here! :D

I'm looking at buying a PS3 in the very near future, just waiting for a game that interests me enough to release lol. But here's what I'm wondering. I've got a Driving Force (not Pro), you know the blue one for GT3 or GT4 i think, has anyone had any experience using it with the PS3?

Does it work with F1:CE and GTHD? Will I feel force-feedback or no?

Thank alot! :)

edit - and one more thing. I signed up on Playstation.com awhile ago, will my game handle in my profile be my PSN ID? or is that separate when I buy my PS3 and set it up.

once you look at the big picture it looks like they are definitely hinting at something, since Twisted Metal has always been associated with the homicidal clown that you see in the smoke then it makes sense that there would be something in the works

Checking with the manual the game supports the "Logitech Driving Force Pro", "Driving Force EX" and the "G25" racing wheels. However it "does not support force feedback functionality." From what I hear most players believe, after enough practice, that driving with a wheel can lead to significantly faster lap times compared to the standard suxaxis (tm) controller.

If you mean you only have a regular playstation.com user account, for posting and the like, I'm guessing that doesn't guarantee a PSN account. At one time you could sign up remotely using this link https://account.np.ac.playstation.net/pc/accounts/reg_lockout.html
but now it's gone dead. So I'm afraid you'll have to wait to register your username until you actually have a PS3 (unless someone else knows another technique).

Not all plasmas use a glass screen, the LG 42PC1D we have here has ClearFilter instead, a thin veneer of plastic that makes it a lot lighter and less reflective.

^That explains it better than I can.
I had not heard of this new type of screen. Thanks for the info! 👍

I stopped using my wheel a long time ago, but I believe F1:CE now supports force feedback from the last update.

Has anyone here ever gotten a cell phone bluetooth headset to work with the PS3 online?
So far every one I have owned has worked on the PS3, including an old Motorola model, a recent Jabra BT350 and a recent Plantronics Discovery 655. I just lost my Plantronics and am going to replace it with the new Jawbone from Aliph. It's been getting rave reviews and awards from just about every tech publication so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I suspect it will work just fine with the PS3, as any Bluetooth headset should be fully compatible. 👍

BTW: There is a thread in the PS3 forums that might be worth checking out:

Need to be very careful with this one as a bit of guess-work is going on here.

I have the original Logitech Driving Force wheel, this one....

...and it is NOT supported in F1:CE. I tried it and got no joy at all with it.

It does however work fine with GT:HD, with force feedback.

Whoa! What update? I honestly believe I will do better with feedback, but my last system update didn't give it to F1:CE, so unless you are talking about an F1:CE update that I wasn't aware of I don't think it does.

I have a Jawbone. You'll love it. The only thing is you may need to get the earbud kit ($10) if the parts that come with it is uncomfortable. The kit has, I think, four different parts.

And it does work with the PS3. I got it to link up and went through all the volume setups. I haven't done any online gaming yet, so I don't know how well it will work in-game.

Do you mean it doesn't recognize it at all? I know it works with my DFP, but without force feedback, and for me it is easiest to control on 200 degree mode, which is why I would think that the Driving Force would work just fine.

As far as I'm aware F1:CE has not been updated at all and all we have is a wish-list for an update (because I wish they would get rid of the pop-up messages in the middle of the screen when you are on-line).

Nope it didn't recognise it at all, I will give it another go tonight if I get a chance, just to be 100% sure.

I guess I wouldn't be too surprised that they only programmed for the newest Playstation designed wheel. I don't know what all woudl go into it, but it seems like if you can work to get the DFP programmed in, you should be able to easily get the other Logitech wheels programmed too.

Oh well, at least PD has been backwards compatible for all their wheels.

My bad. I thought there had been a F1:CE update a couple months back that added FF support, but as I stopped using my wheel a long time ago (simply too much of a pain to pull it out and set it up each time), I was only going on memory, which apparently was very poor. :embarrassed:

BTW: If you are talking about the pop-up online messages, they should only show up in the upper right hand side. You can also disable them at any time by going to the "Settings" menu, then select "System Settings", then select "Notification Messages" and select "Do Not Display". This will turn off all pop-up online messages, so you might want to turn it back on after you finish your game. Personally they have not bothered me any, but for those that are distracted by them, you do have the option to turn them on and off whenever you like. 👍

My bad I should have been clearer, its not the friends list ones that are the problem (as you say they are up in the top right corner), but the actual F1:CE ones that say things like "ScaffUK has just left the race", those buggers appear right in the middle of the screen. No exactly what you need as you try and apex a corner.

Agreed. That is why I was quoting directly from the game manual.

Well, at this point it is pretty much settled, I'm buying a PS3 at the start of next week (Monday probably).

The question now becomes, what games do I buy?
I don't think I will have the money for more than one but it is possible I could get two.

Right now I'm thinking that if I can only get one, I should get "Resistance" and if a second game is possible, that should be "F1:CE."

I figure, GT4 and Tourist Trophy will give me a driving fix and Resistance will give me the next gen online FPS experience. That's the reason for putting Resistance ahead of F1. Of course, let's not forget that I will instantly begin playing GT:HD which is one more driving fix other than F1 (not that I'm not interested in F1).

Here's the thing though... I'd really like to get suggestions from you all.
I know you guys may have a different take on the situation and so I would love to hear what you've got to say. 👍

So let's have it, what games would you all suggest if you could only buy one or two games with the system?

Resistance and Rainbow Six. If you're not too crazy on shooters get F1CE or Motorstorm instead. If you like 100+ hour dungeon crawlers get Oblivion.

Well Kent for me that's too easy as I only own 2 games; MotorStorm and F1:CE. ;) (Fully disclosure I did buy Super Stardust as a download). Between the 2 I play F1 far more, but I've also found out that subconsciously I must fancy myself some sort of dormant race car driver (I know I know, that's sooo unusual on this forum ) and just can't get enough of the uber challenge this simulation of the sport provides. Obviously the great looks and sounds of the game don't hurt either. That being said, to be quite honest, as a racing game of an official sport the variation is not too great. After you learn, well mostly learn, all the tracks really the only thing left is to improve you skill at each one. So that obviously doesn't bother me, but for others I know it can get quite boring. Remember there are a number of downloadable demos, so technically you don't have to commit to any specific game right off. I think Scaff has a nice compilation of the games available for demo listed somewhere. So that's a game plan you might want to consider. Sorry for the lame pun.

Have to agree with Duck on that last point, Oblivion is fargin incredible if you are into that kinda of game. One can literally loose their life to that monster, one of the main reasons I had to return the 360 I had earlier this year. 8-10 hours will disappear like that.

I find it really funny that X360 fannies say the PS3 has no good games yet I find myself trying to pick one or two and it's a trouble-some task. :ouch:

I think I would take Resistance over Rainbow Six.
Also, I think I would take F1:CE over motorstorm.

As for oblivion and ninja gaiden... That's a hard call. I think I'd have to go with oblivion since I've so much about it and I've never played it (although I've seen it on TV). NG:Sigma on the other hand, I've played through the Xbox game and enjoyed it greatly but I'm not sure I would want to spend so much money just to play through it again. :indiff:

So I suppose it will work like this...
First on the list will be Resistance. Then Oblivion or F1:CE.

One question though, is Oblivion online? Is there any element of online play similar to other RPG style games?
If not then I may have to say F1:CE over Oblivion just because I want to use my wireless network as much as possible. 👍

Which reminds me... You can play F1 against other players online right? Or is it a ghost racing thing? Or does it go online at all?

Finally, I just want to mention that Resistance will more than likely be the first pick instead of F1:CE because I know that GT:HD and GT5:P will be able to serve as driving games (not to mention the copy of GT4 that will still be in my collection) while I have nothing to serve as an online FPS.

Btw, this isn't to say I've made up my mind... I still want to hear all the suggestions you guys can come up with!
Heck I hadn't even thought of Oblivion as an option until someone here mentioned it (which is crazy because every account I've heard of the game says it is amazing).

I could get RSV for the PS3 and I know it would be cool but I like it so much on the 360 why would I need to go all over it again in the ps3? Even with COD4 coming out, I can see it coming out for the 360 before it does on the PS3. Even if it didn't I don't think I'd enjoy it as much on the PS3. I think for me it comes down to that 360 controller. It's just that nice.

I really want to be a PS gamer again but I fear it will continue to be only for GT5 and even then I won't be playing it as much as I will the 360. :grumpy:

F1:CE would be my top pick, but if I were a fan of Resistance type games I suspect that would be my top pick. MotorStorm is a close second behind F1:CE... because its just plain fun, great physics for an arcade style game, and excellent online play.

One question though, is Oblivion online? Is there any element of online play similar to other RPG style games?
I haven't played it, but I don't believe it has online play.

Which reminds me... You can play F1 against other players online right? Or is it a ghost racing thing? Or does it go online at all?
It has excellent online support that allows several different game settings and up to 11 online players with 11 additional AI cars. If you set crash damage to off, then when, and only when, your car and another car come together, then and only then will the other car turn into a "Ghost cars" so as not to block your view of the track. If crash damage is turned on, depending on how much contact is made, be prepared to watch carbon fiber fragments and even a tire or two go flying. ;)

Finally, I just want to mention that Resistance will more than likely be the first pick instead of F1:CE because I know that GT:HD and GT5:P will be able to serve as driving games (not to mention the copy of GT4 that will still be in my collection) while I have nothing to serve as an online FPS.
Excellent point. I think you are already headed in the right direction regarding your game choice priorities. 👍

Heck I hadn't even thought of Oblivion as an option until someone here mentioned it (which is crazy because every account I've heard of the game says it is amazing).
I've heard great things about Oblivion but like Resistance, it too isn't the kind of game that I normally have much interest in so I have yet to play it.

Oblivion isn't online and has no online element on the PS3 yet (on the 360 there's quite a bit of DLC - no idea when, or if, there'll be any for the PS3 version). But don't let that put you off. It's a pretty big game with a lot of freedom. Think of it as an RPG "sandbox" game.

I too have thought about getting more PS3 games, but I'm being super choosy and getting only the big titles this year. I'm happy to wait for the games I want (though I do rent quite a few - I have Virtua Fighter 5 coming for example).

im also going to get a PS3 in the next week. im gonna get one while theyre 499. theyre going up to 599 again when they release the 80gig.
