Back at the end of 2004 I ran a very similar thread - but 3 years have passed and a lot of Hollywood has flown by all our eyes since then. So it's time for a resurrection.

This thread will be open for nominations for ONE MONTH only, at which time a new poll will be created from the 30 most popular nominations, and members may vote for their favourite.

  • Make 10 (ten) nominations.
  • You may nominate film series (LOTR, Alien, Bourne, Matrix, Star Wars) or individual films from those series (FOTR, Aliens, Bourne Ultimatum, The Matrix, The Empire Strikes Back), but you may not nominate multiple instances of films from the series (if your top 3 are Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum, then you will have 1 vote for Bourne and whatever film you have in 4th will get your 2nd place vote).
  • The films must have had a full cinematic release.
  • You must have seen the films

My list:
1. LOTR trilogy.
2. Sleuth.
3. V for Vendetta
4. Batman Begins.
5. The Prestige.
6. The Hunt for Red October.
7. Memento.
8. Inside Man.
9. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
10. The Hunted

(for those interested, the top 5 from the final poll last time were The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King; Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; The Godfather Part 1; Aliens; Scarface).

Have at it!

I think it's more along the lines of GTP's Top 10 Movies... Ever! - 8. Stargate - "Huh?"

Quite. I own the film - along with boxsets of all the series (and probably the two new films when they come out straight onto DVD).

But I wouldn't put it in my top hundred.

Fortunately, this is about the opinions of others.

Can I list some now and edit the post later or is it better to wait until I have all ten before I post?

Okay, just lots of random great films nearly alphabetically to begin, I'm going to shuffle these later to some sort of preferential order.

This incredibly hard. I've binned Bourne and Star Wars, I enjoy them... but not top tennage? Never watched the Godfather trilogy - something I must fix, methinks. Also, I've not watched a lot of Hitchcock, although I thought 'Rear Window' was excellent.

EDIT: Gah, how can I have forgotten The Shawshank Redemption! Put it at Zeroth. :D

1. Gattaca
2. Eternal Sunshine... 👍
3. Leon (uh, 'The Professional'.)
4. American Beauty
5. L.A. Confidential
6. Ronin
7. The Usual Suspects
8. The Sixth Sense
9. Lost in Translation (you do, or you don't. I did.)
10. Memento 👍

Honourable mentions to:

8 Mile
Abyss
Alien (alright, the whole series, I seem to be one of the few who enjoyed Alien3 very much indeed, but 4 was a bit... shoddy... and AVP kinda sucked.)
Airplane!
Being John Malkovich
cinema Paradiso
CONfidence
edward Scissorhands
Finding Nemo
Gladiator
Gothika (well, I liked it. :) )
The Incredibles
Matrix (Only the first one, though. And the short scene in II where the black '68 Firebird turns up. oojimawotsit who played Trinity was overrated.)
Payback (if only for Lucy Liu in bondage gear... now there could have been a great Trinity!...)
Shaun of the Dead
The Silence of the Lambs
Sleepers
The Untouchables
Toy Story 1&2
When Harry Met Sally

Edit: Oooh, ooh, underrated creepy psycho excellence: The Hand That Rocks The Cradle. Fab.

Quite. I own the film - along with boxsets of all the series (and probably the two new films when they come out straight onto DVD).
