Here is six I can think of...

- Die Hard Seires
- Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
- The Big Lebowski
- Pulp Fiction
- The Fifth Element
- Happy Gilmore

Will try and think of four more later.

I have always wondered, what is it about The Empire Strikes Back that make it the favourite for so many people? Growing up Return of the Jedi was my fav.

Did anybody say Raising Arizona yet? It almost made my list. I cannot believe this is nobody's top ten favorite movie.

I almost included ever Coen Brothers movie in my list... but I just checked off the least excellent ones until I ended up with TBL :D

Here are mine, in no particular order (might change it, I keep remembering new ones):

- Seven
- Gladiator
- Aliens
- The Machinist
- Star Wars series
- Fight Club
- Pulp Fiction
- American History X
- Heat
- Lord Of The Rings (trilogy)

Mine's not in any order either:

Matrix - Just the first. Perfect film.

Se7en - Pitt, Freeman, Finch, Gwyneth, maybe even Spacey. I think this is their best work.

Seven Days In May - Frankenheimer(Ronin) classic. My favorite film of his by far.

Seven Samurai - Like Speedy, I'm a huge Kurosawa fan. This just beats out Sanjuro as my favorite samurai flick, due to it's epic size. So long, but too short. ;)

High and Low - My favorite Kurosawa flick, and this one also just beats out another Kurosawa flick of the genre; "Stray Dog". Also starring Shimura Takashi & Mifune Toshiro.

Fifth Element - One of my favorite Sci Fi flicks that beat out more serious SF epics such as Blade Runner & Star Wars. I guess I place more importance on Luc Besson's style little bit more than most people. I think this is the most complete film he's ever released.

Swingers - My first Doug Liman(Bourne Identiry), Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Ron Livingston(Band of Brothers, Office Space) film. Low budget magic. Magic. It might actually make my Top-3.

Back To The Future - This crept onto my Top-10, a couple of years ago. Another film that I just think is perfect. I grew up in the 80's, which definitely helps. Like with Matrix, I think the sequels(which I think were pretty good) just ended up cheapening the original.

Saving Private Ryan - The best war movie I've ever seen outside Band of Brothers, which is not a movie. :P Thank you, Mr. Spielberg. 👍

Serenity - While this list wasn't in any paticular order, this one was my absolute last choice on my Top-10. It just barely beat out the Dawn of the Dead(remake) and Shawshank Redemption. Not because it's a better film, but because I got sucked in it's TV series. Guilty pleasure. I got 100 more movies that deserves this spot more than this one.

For reference, this was my last list:
11/28/04
I wish it was a top 100, but here's my top 10:

Fifth Element
Seven Samurai
Saving Private Ryan
Se7en
Commando
Swingers
High and Low
James Bond Series(especially "You Only Live Twice"
The Experiment(German)
Seven Days In May

I liked over 90% of the choices you guys made here. Great movies. My only surprise was that nobody mentioned the Swingers. I don't think I saw Jurassic Park in there either.

My preference has changed little bit, but I still LOVE every one of the films from '04 list. My sincerest aplogies to Danny Boyle and Quentin Tarantino. I respect(and LOVE!) their work so much, but none of them quite made my Top-10. Shallow Grave! Night Watch! Reservoir Dogs! :D

Honorable mention:
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Pulp Fiction
Blade Runner
Indiana Jones series(last two)
Trainspotting
Shawshank Redemption
Dawn of the Dead.

Never saw this until now .. so many to choose from!

The Shawshank Redemption
Carlito's Way
Gangs of New York
Unforgiven
The Deer Hunter
The Green Mile
Cinderella Man
Leon
LOTR (extended Trilogy)
Stir Crazy

this is probably my top 10 after a good 15 minute delve into my mind, I know I could watch them all once a year every year :sly:

How could I leave out these?

Saving Private Ryan
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile

I should spank myself...
Thanks, Mr P!

I like Mr.P's selection of Carlito's Way over Scarface, which is a far more popular film. I'm one of the few who actually prefers Carlito's Way, also.

Didn't like Forrest Gump that much, actually. Good, but didn't do anything.

I also thought 'The Butterfly Effect' was a great movie, some really powerful scenes. I loved it.

1. V For Vendetta
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. The Matrix
4. Cloverfield
5. Battle Royale
6. Fight Club
7. Dodgeball
8. Snatch
9. Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
10. Man On Fire

I personally didn't think The Shawshank Redemption was all that great. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I'd say that movie is one of the main reasons why I don't consider the Top 250 at IMDb to be that precise.

Then again, I'd read the book before seeing the movie, and although the parts that weren't true to the book were made better, I kinda wasn't surprised by most of it.

Didn't like Forrest Gump that much, actually. Good, but didn't do anything.

And yet it seemed that Forrest Gump did everything in that movie, from breaking his leg braces and running to running across the country, from Vietnam to investing in Apple Inc. (he thought it was a fruit company), and all in his current mental state (he had an I.Q. below 80).

The book was much darker.

In no particular order:

The Lord of The Rings Trilogy
Matrix (first one)
Terminator 2
Brave Heart
The Shawshank Redemption
Back to the Future Trilogy
Die Hard Series
Lethal Weapon Series
Ocean's Eleven
Bourne Trilogy

dances with Wolves: a western, a romance, and the Native Americans get to be the Good Guys!!
The Green Mile: Steven King finally makes a heart toucher and an Epic...and no gore necessary (a few burns, but...)
Forrest Gump: Disabled potential Loser kicks ass and takes names just by being himself
lotr trilogy: I think J.R.R. would be very Proud...don't forget to check out Peter Jackson's take on King Kong, too...you can tell it's him...same type of camera shots
Kung Fu Hustle/Shaolin Soccer: watch em with the subtitles on, in oringinal Cantonese and Chinese Market cut. action and comedy. and I didn't know the Chinese had the F word!
The Mummy Returns: adventure, egyptians, "oilpunk", and a smart arse kid. the only thing I wanna know, is why would you wanna french a mummy?

I haven't seen all of Seven Samurai, yet. I wanna see a restored widescreen sub. the only version I've seen is a badly battered transfer :P

1) Monster, Charlize Theron is just so amazing in this role!
2) Ice Age, so fun!
3) American History X, scary
4) Southpark, love the humor
5) The Blair Witch Project, spooky!
6) Bourne Ultimatum, Cool!
7) Saving Private Ryan
8) Gone in 60 Seconds, Cars & Cars!
9) Black Hawk Down
10) Sin City, Cool style

Not a movie but it was movie-ish tv serie: band of brothers

Wow. There is exactly 1 of those movies that I'd rate as "upper echelon". Only 3, that I'd even recommend to a friend if they were bored.

None of thoes are in my top 10, Saving Private Ryan was good until they actually found Ryan, Bourne Ultimatum tied the trilogy up well enough but was a bit too manic with the shaking camera at times. Black Hawk down was good, but again not top 10 material imo. Gone in 60 seconds was ok as a bit of fun without actually thinking but it's not something I've watched in a loooong time nor do I get the feeling I will be watching it soon. Thoes are all in my DVD collection but none are top 10.

If we could nominate TV seires then Band of Brothers most definitely would be in, but it's movies and Band of Brothers isn't a movie.

1. The Matrix Trilogy
2. Aliens
3. Batman Returns
4. Batman Begins
5. No Country For Old Men
6. The Royal Tenenbaums
7. The Goonies
8. The 'Burbs
9. Casino
10. Life Is Beautiful

No need for any more submissions we'll just use this list as gospel. Agreed? Agreed. I'm win!!!

*List updated... 'Gone in 60 seconds' just nudged by Austin Powers* 👍

5> Titanic (1997)

 :odd:

👍 though there's no need to include the lesser Jurassic Parks.
The first two were great... I watched them all the time when I was a kid. The third one is so-so... but because of the rules on the first page, I ended up voting for the whole series.

Hahaha  ... What!?

OK... Let me (try) to explain. Bearing in mind that these are my own personal favourites. My list would be very different if I were making a "greatest movies of all time" list... but then I wouldn't like them all.

The Lion King - Great animation movie. I think everyone my age has memorized the entire film word-by-word in their head. The gross is ranked at #22 of all time… so it can’t be that bad.

Back to the Future Series - I see a lot of other nominations of BTTF in this thread. Seriously, it’s fantastic to watch the same town switch between 1885, 1955, 1985, 2015… and watching how technology and people change (Biff especially ). Love the storyline also.

Titanic – I don’t like Leonardo DiCrapio… or the love story. I watch it for the disaster at the end. It’s a great movie… and it still holds the record for the highest grossing film, which isn’t bad.

Bridge to Terabithia – I guess you’ll need to watch this one for yourself, because the advertisement for it was “deliberately misleading”... not sure why they did that. It’s actually the saddest movie I’ve ever seen, yet the film seems very special to me.

Final Destination Series – Yeah, I was struggling to fill in the top 10 when I thought of this... Though I do like them a lot. The cause of deaths are very interesting/creative… there’s plenty of blood and guts, and they always make the audience laugh (despite feeling sick in the stomach). They also have discrete clues for each people’s deaths throughout each movie… it’s a bit like playing a game of cluedo.

Gone in 60 Seconds The re-make in 2000 was complete rubbish. The original 1974 version though, IMO, had the best car chase scene of all time. It was no crappy Hollywood chase scene we get nowadays… it was the bees knees.
From Wikipedia:
In a notable scene, Eleanor is clipped by a Cadillac as a result of misjudging the freeway exit, spins out and collides with a lamp post. This scene was, in fact, a real accident, as Halicki misjudged both the lane and speed of the Cadillac. Halicki was injured in the crash, but the scene was left in, and Eleanor is seen driving away from the accident and as chase continues.
Brilliant stuff! Now that’s a proper car chase… right, Nicolas Cage?

 Seriously?

seriously?

ah no one likes my fav's 👍

Yeah seriously! Havent watched it in 7 years but when it was out i did find it spooky, now-a-days it seems rather not spooky, but had it with a lot of movies.

The original "Gone in 60 seconds" was, frankly, a rubbish movie. Pure rubbish. But I'd rate it as one of the best car chase scenes on film. Not hard to imagine, considering it was a forty-something minute car chase.

Bridge to Terabithia... yeah... the ads for this movie are entirely misleading... but the story itself is very good... very bittersweet. Not in my personal top ten, but I rate it highly for its very down-to-earth and realistic humanity.

The Burbs... didn't quite get it when I first watched it... (was too young, I guess)... second watch, pretty much fell into place for me. The Goonies? Quintessential 80's stuff... one of the bright points of that escapist-fantasy era of film-making, before people got wise to Hollywood-ism.
