Turtle Racing League - Race Night Recap

Can’t wait for GT Academy to end so we can get some regulars back! Another small crowd was present at the Autumn Ring for some topless racing. It still didn’t stop some great battling on the sun soaked, colorful course. However, there was one noticeable issue that cropped up for practice and eventually the race. Despite being convertibles, the first two cars raced with the top up! Alas, the crisp, cool, autumn air was not to be felt by the Turtles for some time. Nonetheless, the Turtles took to the track.

Race 1 saw DolphDrago take the pole position in the BMW 507 ‘57. The race was shortened to 10 minutes due to the size of the field. BionicDerp got a great jump off the line and made his way past Dolph as they headed through the initial left handers. The top 3 Turtles battled hard for three laps before Dolph made a slight mistake, allowing Bionic to pull away and RacingOtaku86 to get around for 2nd. Despite having never raced on the full Autumn Ring course in reverse, Bionic still cruised off into the sunse...err, morning sun for the victory. Dolph continued to hound Racing for the remainder of the race before making his way past coming off the final corner and to the white flag. Unfortunately, it would not last long, as he would have trouble in turn 1. Racing and Dolph would swap positions several times for the first half of the lap before Racing would come to prevail, taking 2nd place and leaving Dolph in 3rd at the finish. Newcomer racercad rounded out the small field to finish 4th.

The 2nd race featured the Z4 ‘03. GTP_Severn joined the party to make it a five car race. With the extra driver, the race was brought up to half distance, at 15 laps. And what a wild start it was with that bunched up field! Severn enjoyed the lead for a lap and half before he got nabbed by PD for a shortcut penalty at the hairpin, dropping him from 1st to 4th at the blink of an eye. Dolph would take the lead and pull a gap on the heavily contested 2nd place battle until hitting the sand before the hairpin on lap 5. This put Racing and Bionic right on his tail. One lap later, Dolph again beached it in the sand at the same exact spot, this time costing him two positions. Bionic, who had just made a pass on Racing before Dolph’s second mishap, gained the lead. Racing feverishly pushed Bionic to the end, but could never quite get by. Bionic scored his second win while Racing settled for another 2nd place finish. Dolph was unable to recover from his mistakes and found himself in 3rd again. Severn raced home to 4th, while racercad once again filled out the field in 5th.

The Z8 ‘01 was utilized for the third and final race. It was another exciting start to the race. Racing got himself slapped with a penalty for jumping the start. Meanwhile Bionic, hungry for the Triple Crown of Turtle FLEX Racing, made his way from last on the grid up to 1st before the Turtles even reached the long right hander, and immediately began to distance himself from the field. Severn wound up going off track in the tricky last section of the course, with Dolph pooping his pants as he luckily went through his ghosted vehicle. There would be two fantastic battles for some laps, with Racing and Dolph grinding it out for 2nd, and Severn and racercad dueling for 4th. Dolph ran wide in the final corner on lap 5, losing some time to Racing. It would not last long, however, as something would happen to Racing’s car and he would fly off course in turn 1. Dolph took advantage and grabbed the 2nd spot, over 7 seconds behind Bionic. He pushed his car to the limit, but it was too little, too late. He would finish just under a second behind in 2nd. Bionic was able to pull off the trifecta, something that California Chrome would be unable to do one day later. Racing finished off his final race in 3rd, while Severn put on a drifting clinic for the last two laps and came home 4th. Racercad made a pit stop late in the race and would finish 1 lap behind the leaders in 5th.

Overall, Bionic would take the top overall spot with a near perfect night. The only blemishes in his record were Dolph stealing the pole for race 1 and fast lap in race 2. Racing beat out Dolph by 1 point to take home silver for the evening. Racercad never gave in all night and ended up 4th, while Severn placed 5th overall with his two races run.

Congrats to Bionic on his night, and great racing by the rest of the field! (I wrote a lot more than planned.)

Good luck to everyone tonight. Watch out for dolph. He like those alfa's.... I'd bet the competizione is his favourite of the three. Look for him to make his way to the front in race two.

I have to pizza hut. I'll do 2nd and 3rd race

I thought we started at 8 for something. I'll be there Tonigh :)))))))

Indeed that chicane is going to be interesting. Could see some collisions there, especially at the start. I remember when we ran Elises there in GT5. The chicane at the beginning of the second race was chaos.

And I do like the Alfas, especially the Competizione. :sly:

Oh, and the room will be open in about 10-15 minutes.

Room is up. ID# 1472-6118-3830-2746-0702.

Have the room set up allowing up to sports hards for those who want to practice for the 2nd and 3rd races. Just remember that sports hards will be run in race 1.

Hmm. Let me change the track and then back again. See if you can get in then. If not, someone else may need to host tonight.

Aaaand I just got disconnected from my own room. :grumpy:

Creating a new room. If this one doesn't work, someone else will definitely be hosting.

I really wanted to also it looks like its going to be lots of fun. Hey maybe I'll make it for race three :)

Sorry it was "Friday night Flop" for me. Still thanks for putting this all together. I'm not sure if the time slot is wife friendly here on the west coast. Now I have like $900,000 into spare Alfa's.

Sorry for my attitude tonight. I did win a race tonight so... yeah.
Like Severn said, you destroyed us the last race. It didn't help my cause that I hit that damn chicane 5 of the 11 laps. Nevermind the fact I didn't hit it once while practicing just before the race. :grumpy:

Glad to see you come out to race with us again. 👍 Oftentimes, new guys will join us for one week, then we never see them again. Of course, my connection was crap last night, so I couldn't technically "see" you on track.

I'm hoping for a larger crowd within a few weeks. I think GT Academy is keeping some people away at the moment. At least I think that's partially why we aren't getting many drivers. Or maybe people hate my schedule...

I finally started the Senna Tribute Races. Good Lord I love that new Formula 3 car and the 80's version of Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. I think that would be a fun race to do some time as well. Maybe add to a future Sunday Night Endurance race :D. The original version just flows so well (i dislike the newer turn 3 so much! always have. Good to see it wasn't originally set up like that).

I should get in the Lotus 97T car tonight or tomorrow night for the first time. 👍

Thanks for posting this week's schedule. Hopefully we'll get a decent turnout and have some good racing. 👍

I agree about turn 3 being MUCH better on the 80's Brands. I also like the first chicane(s) at Monza much more on the 80's version as well. And have fun with that Lotus. I use a DS3, and when I hit the gas for the first time, I still felt like I was being pushed back into my seat. Once that turbo gets going...holy crap!

I'm hope i'm not in the sand too much at Monza. I'm having a hard time finding braking spots in a couple new corners.

I think I've got my braking points down. My only issue is tire wear. The thing just eats 'em up. I mean, every single lap I light up my tires at Parabolica. Every. Single. Time. Don't know if it makes a difference for the wheel users, but I sure as heck can't do anything about it with the DS3. Pretty sure I'm going to need to pit at the halfway mark, or I won't have any rubber left at the end of the race. Should be fun regardless. :)
