Schedule Change

I was going to hold off on this announcement until after this week’s race however with the recent PM’s I have received, I figured I would announce it so people can plan accordingly.

Due to unforeseen issues for the guys using a controller at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Oval) in Week 2, I have decided to scratch Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Oval) from the schedule and will replace the Week 2 track with High Speed Ring. There will be no change to this week’s schedule.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with the above change and thanks for your understanding.

The updated schedule is listed below

I can hear angels singing!

I just saw how the controller users are hamstrung in high speed cornering. Euclid has traditionally been a DS3 driver. After watching him and a couple of other controller drivers struggling to go flat out in the last 2 corners at Indy Road, then, having Euclid switch to his DFGT and him realizing it took about 90% less steering input to get through there, without having to lift, I am convinced there is a variable steering algorithm being applied to DS3 controller inputs. This is some broke 🤬. If it's by design, I can only surmise it's to drive wheel purchases. If it's not as intended, it's broke and you controller users need to express this difference in control to wherever possible. A place to start would be The Bugs & Glitches Thread. It's bad folks, I mean really bad.

I'm so happy to hear this news about the track switch. I still wish I could make it for the first race but I won't be able to get the day off. No one will switch with me. It's too late, sorry fellas. So obviously no way of winning the Championship when down an entire race. Is there any possible way that someone can race in my place and the points will be mine?

Sorry to hear that you won't make it to the first race. As for someone else driving for you, that is not an option. Sorry. Keep in mind that the seasons are short so there is always next season.

I agree with everything you just stated, and this is why i wanted to disect my DS3 controller and turn it into my own racing wheel rig, i don't care how long the cables have to be, i just want the full 900 degrees. With that being said, I don't agree that their is some variable turning taking place, im positive that the DS3 controller does not have the full extension that the wheel does, so maybe they are trying to drive sales, but until their is a device that can god beyond the threshold of those little analog sticks we will ultimately be screwed for ever. No big deal, guess ill just have to buy a wheel right! lol.....Nice post dragon, no matter what, the issue needs some attention for sure!

Yes, this is true. And after this week I will always be off on Wednesday so I can always be there for everything. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to race on Sunday as often, that's likely gonna become Part Time.

Thank you Grim. It is a relief that the oval is dropped from the schedule as I was seriously considering dropping out for that round. Not for the reason that I wasn't going to be competitive but because I was worried about being a mobile chicane and a potential hazard for faster traffic.

Well, we, meaning Euclid, Reigninblood and I, did some comparisons last night while both their cars were stopped. I went in watch mode and observed both cars tire representations at controller (DS3 and DFGT) lock and while stopped the tire AoA appeared identical for both. I don't know if that's what you call it for cars, but that's a term in aircraft circles to describe the aircraft's Angle of Attack to its target. At any rate, we have empirical evidence that, at speed, and the higher the speed the more pronounced the affect is, DS3 users have increasing limited steering angle. Euclid and Reignin both reported, with their DS3s on full right lock, they could not get through the last 2 turns at Indy without lifting. After we finally beat Euclid enough to convince him to use his DFGT, he got it hooked up and he found out he only had to use about 20 degrees of wheel movment to get through both. I know from my experience with my G27, I was easily able to steer my car to a higher and lower line mid turn, in both corners, and still be flat out. I'm just saying, there are maybe 2 places at Indy that should require even getting close to steering lock with either controller, and really only 1 other track that has a tighter turn. At low speed the DS3 folks are getting close enough to full travel with their sticks they don't notice the difference. It was plainly evident last night, this isn't the case at higher speeds.

Don't get me wrong, if you are a DS3 user, and you have to lift to get through either of those turns and I'm behind you when you do, I won't be behind you for long.

Thankfully, the controller problem doesn't raise its head all the time. For instance, as you know, we are running the Camaro at Indy too and there are no problems going through those last turns flat and the vast majority of cars we race respond as you would wish.

Recently though, it was a bummer that the GTR GT-500 hung around for so long because I was losing so much time, particularly, at the fast 130R bend and before we moved to Suzuka I was even having trouble taking the last sweeper at Grand Valley flat. If I wasn't totally accurate with my turn in point the car would sweep wide at a place a wheel user would never have any concerns and it got progressively worse after even a small bit of tyre wear.

Before that, the last time this issue arose was for the GT Academy qualifier at Spa. It was well documented how it was impossible to take Eau Rouge flat and the upshot of that was that you could lose a second to the really quick guys by the time you reached the first checkpoint just before Les Combes.

I'm not complaining. The controller more than suffices for my aims and, generally, I can be reasonably competitive with it but there's no doubt a wheel adds higher dimension of throttle/braking and steering accuracy that is not available with the controller.

That would explain why I got smoked in the practice race at indy ss lol

Damn, i didn't even think about testing it like that, you guys are genius! I guess its to ebay or amazon or w/e to find a wheel lol. I used to have the dfgt, great wheel actually, unfortunately pedals busted:(

As it stands right now, it looks like 8 drivers (not official untill 8:00pm) will advance to the main event from KOQ tonight. Since we have several new drivers starting tonight be sure you understand the KOQ process including the update that was posted a few pages back regarding full KOQ lobbies.

Really looking forward to tonights races and kicking off the season.

See you on the track!
