2011 Australian Grand Prix

Commentators are a bit useless so far. No mention of Alonso breezing past Rosberg :indiff:

Also, big whoop on this moveable rear wing. Isnt doing Jenson my use.

Massa was using KERS to counteract it, and mighty well I'd say.

He's ahead of Alonso and doesn't look to be budging anytime soon.

EDIT: What the hell was that? Did Massa just let Alonso pass him?

First pit stops coming after 12 laps. I wonder if it's because they were used in qualifying or if that's really about how long they last. When is Button going to give this position up?

Issue was, Jenson was using DRS without KERS, while Massa was hard on the KERS button.

He's past now. Brave, brave, brave, brave, brave, brave, brave move... although STAR commentators are suggesting he might have cut that corner.

And now Ferrari have pitted Massa... so Button can't give back the place... who are the stewards going to force him to give the place back to? First round... drama galore!

He very much cut the corner and will have to let Massa pass again.

If the FIA is consistant (think Alonso and Kubica at Silverstone) Button HAS to left Massa back through.

Maybe so when he was on the straight, but Button wasn't using DRS during that pass. SpeedTV commentators played Button's radio with him arguing that he was already ahead of Massa and was pushed off the track by him so he shouldn't have to give up position.

Was about to say the same thing. Jenson was a little bit stupid there, the stewards were never going to buy that he was ahead. Exactly the same as the Alonso/Kubica incident. Claimed he was ahead, cut the corner and didn't let Massa back past.

Drive through penalty for him, he deserved it quite frankly. He could have jumped Massa in the pitstops easily.

It seems Hamilton and Petrov are really conserving their tires. This should be the first of many, many interesting races and pit strategies by all teams. That extra few laps the two of them did, as well as Button, could easily end up in a win.

Who says Vettel can't overtake? I know Button's on old tyres, but still... Vettel's on cold tyres.

And now Button gets a drive-through. Tough luck.

Vettel is pretty high up after his pit. Hamilton in now... out behind Vettel... on the soft tire... interesting gamble.

I wish they would have shown that on Speed.

Button is going to drop like a fly now. Two laps with the same number of times through the pits is disaster. That was a big mistake not immediately giving up position.

There's plenty to suggest he can't overtake. :P

I'm not too pleased with what looked like Massa letting Alonso by. If he was holding him up for Alonso to take advantage of, then what the hell?

@Rossticles: They did show it.

Maybe ferrari were trying to get both their drivers past button... But if Ferrari are genuinely using team orders at the first race of the season, then they are a joke.

Interesting, Vettel has the measure of Hamilton in terms of straight up pace, but Hamilton seems to be able to hold onto the rubber longer.

Whether there will be enough pit stops in this race for Hamilton to ruin Vettel's day this way... hard to say... If it's all soft tires, then Vettel can do a three stopper... Hamilton will be pitting six laps later than him next stop... then nine laps... traffic will probably decide this battle...

EDIT: there goes the other Mercedes... ouch.

:ouch:

I missed it....obviously. It's time to rewind the DVR. Thank God for that.

It was really quick; he tried holding Vettel off but he just darted off to the side and went on about his business.

Okay, getting both of your drivers past is fine but unless Massa genuinely messed up, it definitely looked as if he let him by. I'm calling BS on Ferrari's behalf. So much for the both drivers are equal at the start theory.

I saw. I felt like an idiot there for a second for missing it.

Ross Brawn must be displeased. I picked Rosberg for a fantasy pick this race. :grumpy:

That was a terrible attempt at a pass for Barrichello. I expect more from the man with the most GP starts on the grid.

The heck happened with Webber's tires?

Its a bit of a push to think they radio'd Massa in the 3 seconds between the incident and Alonso coming by.

Great move Uncle Rubens 👎 Rosberg has no luck.

I wonder if Hamilton is preserving his rubber for when Vettel starts whining his tyres are suffering.

Webber's on a three-stopper by the looks of it. He pitted rather early considering he had the hard tyres on.

Doesn't matter... No "team orders"...

Massa lost a lot of momentum on that mistake... and he lost sight of Alonso right after... possibly he decided to let Alonso through... but there's also signs that he didn't have enough in it to block Alonso, anyway.

Alonso coming up behind Petrov... de ja vu? Button past Kobayashi.

Webber in for another stop... those hards were rubbish... so he's going out on the softs... it appears that the leaders will be using nothing but... the extra time he was losing wasn't worth the extra tire life, I guess.
