Vettel describes his start as good and Webbers as poor and says he did good to get alongside.

Even though Webber started behind him. (If IIRC)

The ending of this GP also marks a sad moment as it's the end of the SPEED team with Varsha (and possibly but hopefully not) Buxton not migrating over. :(

Here's to hoping Buxton follows Varsha and Hobbs over to NBC.

I'm almost certain they mentioned Will transferring to NBC next year.

was not obliged to win the race

Nor was Alonso.

he was controlling Alonso!

You cannot control another driver by being behind him. And much less so from being 20 places behind him after you crash and split the floor of your car.

do you think that the first crash was Vettel fault?

No-one can seriously think it was anything but Vettel's fault. He drove across the track to hit a car that was entirely under control, fully alongside him and on the racing line.

It's surprising that it wasn't investigated whilst the race was ongoing, all other collisions, no matter how small have been.

I call shinanigans.

A big congratulations to Vettel. Alonso did the best he could but the race ultimately was in Vettel's hands.

It's a bit annoying that Vergne, Ricciardo, Webber and Schumacher pretty much let Vettel past after he came through the field (Webber is understandeable, but the other 3 guys aren't part of the team). The race would have been much more exciting if everybody was fighting. But I guess it's just karma for Massa's gearbox penalty in Austin.

An epic season! I think Fernando graciously said it best - Formula 1 is a sport, and sport is about hard fights and luck. Sebastian deserves the title in my opinion, lucky or not, the coming years will show us many more great battles between him alongside the rest of the great drivers in 2013.

At least as deserving of a drive-through (which would now be a championship-changing 25s penalty, rather than a drive-through for a guy who was in last already) as squirming a bit under braking and tagging a guy on your outside, wouldn't you say.

I certainly agree Famine. FIA stewards are very irregular and have a criteria that can only be described as "questionable". It's certainly despisable. However, I wanted Vettel to win despite this because, personally, I dislike Alonso. I'm not gonna defend Vettel or his team either, neither I'm gonna demean Alonso's job this entire season...but I just didn't want him to win. Yeah, it's a pet peeve I have with Alonso and has no real argument beyond a personal dislike but it's just my taste.

By the way, RBR are banging "We are the champions" on their garage. Pff...noobs. Renault did it better. They made their engine sing "We're the champions"!!!

Vergne and Ricciardo are not part of the team, but they drive for Toro Rosso, which is linked to Red Bull. Pretty self explanatory.

First lap incidents are usually viewed more leniently by the stewards. Alonso himself is lucky he was not investigated in Monaco and Japan.

Yet the last time a guy took two drivers out on lap 1 he got a race ban.

And it was three corners sooner.

You know what, since Massa is so damn great, why did he only have 2 points over the first 5 races?

Let me guess, Alonso?
Not really, just having an undeveloped car while his teammate had a more developed car, and race incidents, Massa was crashed a few times during the season as well.

I think I'll cut it on Alonso's criticism, having to use team orders to get up there, and then achieve nothing kinda proves my point(specially when such position was gained after two of the ahead cars outright crashed, which shows how lucky he is).

Really happy for Jenson Button right now, a bit sad for Hulkenberg(after such an amazing season finale, he deserved to be up there), same for Lewis and still happy for Massa's drive. Vettel winning the WDC was kinda expected, not sure what happened to Webber, he was all over the place today.

Looking forward to the next season, maybe all leading teams will have the same pace and reliability to make it more interesting, but that will have to wait until March.

Kudos for Vettel, great drives through the year, and the last few seasons, after all the incidents he still deserve it. Solid drives through the season shows why he is earning the title once more.

Who is the champion?tell me please who is the champion?
Take it:

Stay classy, brother.

First off.. I don't like the guy one bit, but well done to Vettel and RBR 👍, i still believe a lot of it is down to the Newey car, but obviously it still takes a lot of skill to win.
Secondly, well done to Button 👍, great way for him (and Hamilton) to bring home 2 wins for McLaren at the end of the season... I will miss the partnership of these 2 drivers next year.
Thirdly, well done to Alonso and Massa 👍 👍, still would have preferred Alonso to take the WDC, but still major props for him and Ferrari (and Massa) trying their hardest.

Overall, great race to watch, but really unfortunate that Hamilton DNF'd, would have made my day to see him win, but still did a great job 👍, and despite Hulkenberg taking him out, i was still impressed by the Hulks performance today.

Looks like Bob will continue at Speed, what it becomes next year. Hell, it won't even be a racing channel next year from what I hear so its shame he's stuck over there. I hope Buxton can at least come over.

And this is why I am upset about it. Some of you guys said that stewards go easier on lap one but we can go back numerous times this year when that has not been the case. Singapore, Suzuka, Korea and I am sure there are more. But it's not like the incident was sketchy. There was a quite clear picture about what happened. And to those who have said that it is fair because the same has happened with Ferrari in the past are wrong. What Ferrari used to do was not okay, if anything the FIA should have learned from back then. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Damn, I'm getting nostalgic. That kind of nostalgia you feel when Le Mans is over...

Someone knows the song that played on the ending video of the BBC coverage?

As above.

That said, even with Vergne's points today and the handful they got over the previous 19 races, Toro Rosso should not have rid themselves of Alguersuari. Buemi was going anyway following their statement, but they failed to stick to their promise and also got rid of the better man that year.

I see that Famine has a firm, opinionated outlook towards what's been going on with Vettel. But you know what, I 100% totally agree with everything he's saying 👍
