2013 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

Its why I'm feeling quite dis-illusioned with F1 of late. It used to be about going relatively flat out, I preferred that F1. People might mention F1 of the 80s being about looking after tyres, but back then it was based on the driver's intuition when to push and when to hold back. Strategy wasn't so hugely important and micro-managed by the team.
I don't mind strategy being a big thing, strategy has always been a large part of it, but, yeah, the current state of F1 is pretty dull to me.
I'd rather they were pushing flat out but getting stuck behind each other than knowing they are not pushing despite being able to pass or defend (or being unable to defend because of stupid DRS).

I think with how F1 has been setup for the past few years, due to the regs, tires, etc. create more driving than racing. The cars and drivers still go through a lot every race, but racing seems to take a bit of a backseat to management.
Races will happen the way they happen, so we can't expect crashes or tons of overtakes everytime, but when factors that are intended to produce more racing aren't really doing their job, I wish the FIA would do more about it rather than change a few things here and there and just continue with with the same regs.

"Shake and bake, baby, shake and bake!"

I'll still watch the US GP tomorrow, at least CoTA is a good circuit.

How much are the Rb's in front? 0.7 sec?

I blame the other teams for making Formula 1 the way it is now!

They should just give him the 25 points, not allow him to race, then we might have a decent race. He is ridiculously quick.

What a ridiculous comment Maldonado made there...acusing one of his mechanics to have sabotaged his car.... i mean seriously????..WTF!

I hope Lotus can find another payed driver next year to help the finacial situation ... as long as its not this idiot!

Seems we will se a great race behind the first 2 tomorrow ;-)

Wacthing it on RTL Germany. I can understand German pretty good, but when Niki Lauda has the mic all is lost for me. I can not understand a word he is saying.

Uh Lotus have all but said that he will be driving for them next year, and if they have to have a pay driver survive (which they already have) then I'd rather see them not do it. Also he's not the first driver to claim this as he leaves a team nor the last.

Anyways, good job Mark thought you had it, and poor job MGP. Hope the race is great like last years.

Maldonado has no shame. seriously accusing the team of sabotage because he sucks is laughable

I hope they kick him out of F1 with a crowbar

If Lotus don't pick Hulk at least pick Perez/Telmex. Anything but Maldonado

well done to the Fins and the Mexicans !!

Red Bull is in a different league

Sure he is not the first or last,nevertheless...really stupid thing to say...who ever says it!

Webber's hesitation in sector 3 cost him pole, which is a shame because it would have been nice to see him try and hold off Vettel. Webber will get a bad start which will start a massive scrap and whilst this goes on Vettel will gap them easily. I still think it will be a good race though because it was a good watch last year.

Maldonado has been quoted saying he doesn't care about the rest of the season, only next year. This plus the comments suggesting the team sabotaged his car, he really deserves being shown the door.

If his attitude is so poor, he's clearly not driving in the interests of the team, so why even have him around for these races? And if you're Lotus, why hire this guy?

Surely Perez is the best option for Lotus after how Pastor has acted recently, he's one of the few drivers that brings a load of money whilst still having some talent. Such a shame to see Hulkenberg and Valsecchi struggling for a decent seat.

And if you're Lotus, why hire this guy?

Because apparently he can bring money to the table. For them it would be money vs. skill (Maldonado vs. Hulkenburg). Money probably sounds better to them because Romain is competitive enough that if Lotus could give him an even better car, he could potentially start bringing it to Ferrari and Mercedes. More 3rd places finished would help the team immensely.

Loved Sutil's comments. "This isn't F1, it's like rush hour on the motorway". Does it really feel that horribly slow to them . Can imagine he would have made it to Q2 if wasn't held up and didn't have a brake rotor failure.

I know its because he brings money, but what is that money worth when you're getting a guy who is going to have a tantrum like this if he doesn't think the car is good enough?
I mean if it is the only option for the team to be able to continue, then its the only option. But I hope any team is considering him with a great deal of caution.

Also....

He has done something that Marc Webber, Nick Heidfeld, Nico Rosberg, Alex Wurz, Kazuki Nakajima, Antonio Pizzonia, Rubens Barrichello, Nico Hulkenberg, Bruno Senna and Vatteri Bottas didn't do. Win a Grand Prix in a very medicore Williams car (winning a GP by itself is an enormous achievement, just ask Jean Alesi) . He has won on every stage of motorsport he has taken part of and it would be nice to see him in a competitive car for at least one season.

Let's not forget that almost every every F1 driver is a primadonna or at least acts like one. Button this season or Kimi or Webber or Alonso at McLaren or Lewis. Almost every driver was "whining" about equipment he was given by team he was driving for, be it different set up , tyre strategy or different upgrades mounted on cars. I don't think comments like that should close anyone's opportunity to show what they can do in different situation.

It's a weird feeling defending Maldonaldo considering I don't even like that guy, but I think there are some double standards when it comes to evaluation of drivers.

@mr_geez That car wasn't crap though it was a good car for the first half of the season and it could've done more if it wasn't Senna behind the wheel and if Pastor had the ability to drive rather than bin it. He had chances at podiums and solid points grabs, everything just aligned in Spain last year that allowed him to finally win rather than ditch another car.

as LMS just said that Williams was hardly mediocre last year. It was actually quite a good car, esp first half of season. This year it has been a mediocre/poor car, yet Bottas has managed a couple of surprising quali performances -> Canada and US

only thing Maldonado has proven is that he doesn't belong in F1. Without PDVSA no one would have hired him
