The helicopter is clearly a movable aerodynamic device with a fan mounted upon it, no less.

Since it's Ferrari, this is clearly a sneak peek at the new rules for 2015.

Nah, it's clearly for engine cooling.

No other team would consider using it, because it likely creates more lift than downforce. It'll be interesting to see if this strategy works for Ferrari :)

Mercedes is going to update their livery for Barcelona so as to include more silver.

Always a good thing, I'm not a fan of the Petronas teal/blue-green whatever, on silver. I do like it on white, like with the Tom's Super GT car though.

It's hard to tell, but is it just more silver or did they also change the shade?

Here's a video of the Flying Ferrari, complete with overdramatic music and Teflonso Stig:

Vettel cruising from pole to flag in a dry Spanish Grand Prix? I literally cannot think of a worse way to spend sunday afternoon.

You're half right. In Bahrain it was so much fun watching the mid-field battle that I forgot Vettel was in the lead until the chequered flag. I immediately got a horrible "NOT AGAIN" feeling in my stomach though.

Amen.

I'd like more of this myself:

Anyone watching P1?

So after the 2 practice session it seems that Ferrari and RBR gonna fight for the win with maybe some pressure from Kimi and Lotus. For the pole, Rosberg and Hamilton could be contender as well but I dont see any of them win the GP.

Anyone watch FP1 today?

I'm glad Ant Davidson is anti run off areas, I think the sports turning into one big quick joke with many things and getting rid of gravel traps is one of the reasons.

Even Jackie Stewart thinks they've taken safety too far with all the run off areas, so that says it all really. I'm obviously glad that there are no fatalities any more, but there's also no punishment for running wide or anything, which there needs to be.

As for the race itself, I dunno. I'd love to see Hamilton win, but I can't see it happening, just as long as Vettel doesn't win I suppose.

Given that last season, any race I neglected to watch was one that Hamilton won, I might just not bother watching it at all.

Or Maldonado could defend his win, I guess. That'd be a headline :sly:

Well Ferrari would have been in the 🤬 if they'd dropped the car.

*looking at the telementary*

Doesn't looking like any big improvements in aerodynamics, guys I think the helicopter doesn't wor... WOAH wait, big downforce now, keep it at that angle guy... Oh, no it's gone again.

*looks up*

Hey, where'd the car go?

Mercedes are making it pretty clear that they are Mercedes.

Meanwhile, Caterham have gotten rid of their stepped nose with their latest updates.

Sure there is. You run wide, you lose time. You run wide with someone behind you, you lose a place. A perfectly acceptable punishment.

I like a track with scenery, but I hate paying for broken metal or a tow. If you're in the cockpit, go ahead and clamor for shorter run-off or more gravel traps. Personally, I'm glad to be able to watch people going at it 101% all race long.

Well... for that part of the race before the tires go off...

What's with the green paint splatter on Seb's car

Another car aswell has them
It's called flow-vis. It's a paint that teams apply to the cars, which gets spread over the surface by the air passing over the car. It helps to visualise the way flow of air over aerodynamic parts, so teams can understand how their parts are behaving. You typically only see it during pre-season testing, so for teams to be running it in free practice generally means that they've got new parts.

Massa ends FP3 quickest. Hopefully he can end Q3 in the same place...

For anyone watching the bbc coverage, that Bernie Ecclestone interview.

The look on Suzi's face as she took what he was saying seriously. (They asked about the rumour of a European grand prix being dropped to make room for the others and he said, "Well it would have to be the British one", and then both Suzi and Eddie Jordan take him seriously and then Bernie's little smirk.) Bernie is such a joker.

Speaking of BBC...I just had to watch Coulthard fudging Vettel at Sochi and then wishing him luck...I just wonder how much of my money was wasted on that trip. I want him getting NO money from my pocket. I'd pay for him to leave permamently, though.

Now Coulthard's 'hanging out' with Perez. Can't we just skip these vomit-inducing time wasters and get on with qualifying?!

Was hoping to see an improved Mclaren this race. Unfotunately it looks like their struggle will continue for longer than I wanted. Hoping Massa can take pole and the win (my third favourite driver after the Mclaren pair)

Then don't pay your television license. Problem solved.

Or better yet you could not pay your broadband or phone bill so we wouldn't have to deal with comments like these 💡

Very funny.
Dr Who is on later, and I'm not missing that.
What I hate is wasting away hard-earned money...they could invest that money in getting all races live on the beeb, instead?

Anyway, it's started now.

Good job by Perez. Getting into Q3 even though it looked like he wouldn't have the pace. The Mercedes seem to have suddenly come to life, might get an all Merc front row.

Front row for the Mercs, I think they were the only ones to get into the 20s. Massa was so close to out qualifying Alonso, only 0.001 of a second slower.
