No predictions here but I'd like to see the Taylors win... love to see father/sons together like that! I didn't even realize Wayne still drove.

I normally root for the Red Dragon but like I said, it'll be really cool to see the Taylors all together out there. Otherwise any Chevy will do. :D

For GT I'll be pulling of course for the Vettes! Can't wait to see the C7.R in action!

Starting to get really excited for the next 24 hours or so! :)👍

now you're dancing around the topic because you know you've been proven wrong...so at this point the discussion doesn't really need to continue...the FACT is that after December 31,2000 there was no such thing as a FACTORY Viper GTS-R running in ANY race on the planet...

yeah sure, the privateer Vipers were AS FAST as the factory cars from pre-2001...however due in large part to their factory support the Corvettes got FASTER...there was no longer any development being done to the GTS-R chassis...hell, after 2002 the car the GTS-R was based on was no longer even in production let alone being developed as a viable race car...

The C5-R continued to be developed and improved over that time, eventually being replaced by the C6.R...while old GTS-R chassis from the 90's were still being raced by privateers...

I'm not dancing around anything, my defensive comment originated from your implication that due to Chrysler not giving factory support Corvette won races unopposed. As if Prodrive, AMR, and others since then weren't as good or challenging or didn't have nearly as much money thrown at them as Corvette Racing. That's my issue.

If you want to cling to factory support disappearing at a certain date, then yeah you were right about when Chrysler stopped factory support. There is more to the argument than that at this point. Even if the car wasn't developed the rules were hardly changed from 2000-2001. Also 90s GTS-R chassis...you act as if the 96 chassis was used to win 2004 races, the 2000 and 1999 winning car were kept in use and even they were phased out for Competition coupes that were horrid.

Also I'd say a team that could challenge a factory team four years older in their second year and finish with in arms reach at Le Mans the second time around is coming to success faster. Dodge GTS-Rs were great and I loved them as a kid, but I felt Corvette were able to do a better job.

Sweet stuff. If anyone comes across a live feed during the dead time please do share. It seems like so many of us do NOT have FOX Sports 2. ...such a shame this could have been avoided. Anyways I'm curious to see how the Porsche factory team effort running with CORE motorsports will do.

And this has green in it.

I knew I wasn't going crazy... at least on this point. :boggled:

That green looks so so much better in my opinion! Hate that dullest of the dull greys.

My dish box has magically decided to perform a "Switch installation Test" hours before the race comes on. How convient

Boys don't forget that Magnus Racing will be producing their own live stream during the race from their pitbox. I have not seen this last year so I'm curious to see how the coverage is. Regardless you can view it here: http://www.ustream.tv/liveatdaytona

It is my understanding that they're not allowed to show any actual racing on their stream because of the TV licences but it could still be interesting to watch.

Well, it's the start of a new era. USCR gets some serious face time this weekend. Good luck to all drivers and teams this weekend at Daytona.

you ARE dancing...you challenged my assertions about everything...and have been consistently wrong..

- Can you show me where i even remotely implied that the Corvettes won unopposed after the Vipers left? because i made no such implications at all...

i simply made the FACTUAL statement that Corvette Racing won no championships prior to the Factory Vipers leaving racing...there is no way to dance around that fact...im not taking anything away from Corvette Racing, or downplaying the competition...its just a simple FACT...when the factory Vipers were racing, the Corvettes only won 2 races...

im not CLINGING to anything...i made a factual statement and you challenged me on every single front...which you have been thoroughly shown to be wrong...

also, the GTS-R was not phased out for the Comp Coupe...they were built to completely different specifications...

Also I'd say a team that could challenge a factory team four years older in their second year and finish with in arms reach at Le Mans the second time around is coming to success faster. Dodge GTS-Rs were great and I loved them as a kid, but I felt Corvette were able to do a better job.

how can you possibly say they came to success faster??

Viper GTS-R introduced in 1996
First Series Win - FIA GT 1997 (2nd year)
First Le Mans win - 1998 (3rd year)

Corvette C5-R introduced in 1999
First Series Win - ALMS 2001 (3rd year)
First Lemans win - 2001 (3rd year)

Interesting fact, the factory Corvettes and Vipers actually debuted in ALMS in the same year (1999)...with the Vipers not participating in the first two events, then sweeping the series to win it...

they achieved class success at Le Mans in the same time frame, but needed an additional year to win their first series championship...by my count the actual evidence (not your fanhood) shows the Vipers were quicker to "success"

Also, based on the way you looked at my comments, your comment here would suggest that the Corvettes entered a competition and did a great job keeping up with the established Vipers...yet the Vipers deserve no similar credit coming into GT2 in 1997 and BEATING established teams like Rook and Konrad, and going on to essentially win 5 consecutive GT titles (FIA: 97-99, ALMS 99-00)

The DW in that incar video has some serious issues exiting low speed corners.Cold tires, gearing and turbo boost are costing it 1 sec per lap easy.

Predictions/Rooting for

  • Prototype: #90 Spirit of Daytona/#99 Bob Stallings Racing
  • Prototype Challenge: #54 Core/#87 BAR1 (just for laughs)
  • GTLM: #3 Corvette Racing/#91 SRT Motorsports
  • GTD: #94 Turner Motorsports/#33 Riley Motorsports

Seems like it has some nasty wheelspin on exit.

Thanks for all the links and yes, that Sam Posey has a way with words.

I didn't know (or remember) that he does that for this race. 👍

Watching Road to Rolex 24 now, getting pumped for the race.

I think Sam is now over there at NBC Sports with the F1 team, though I'm prepared to be surprised.

Here we go. Locked loaded and ready to go. Cheering on the Corvettes and Vipers in GTLM, neutral in the others, just hope we get some great racing and not too much politics. Was a bit disappointed at such a large seperation between LMP2 and DP in qualifying, was this exaggerated?

think its going to be a matter of Power (DP) vs Finesse (P2)...the P2's are gonna have to hope they can really take care of tires and fuel better...because i dont see a way that they can outrun the DP's...
