F1 heads back to Europe after it's brief trip across the Atlantic. Lewis Hamilton bounced back with a win and will be looking to add to that in Austria. Last year, Austria was the only race where Mercedes didn't claim pole position so they will be looking to rectify that, unless Williams or Ferrari have anything to say about it. There will also be some attention and bragging rights in the Force India camp after Nico Hulkenberg's Le Mans victory, perhaps some of his sports car experience could aid him in a good result here.

I predict yet another Mercedes front row lockout. Ferrari MIGHT be in with a chance on race day if they manage to somewhat keep up and conserve their tires well. Or the Mercs break down - one can only hope.

Joke failed. Can happen.
Is your full name Ron Dennisch? His whole team is a joke.

Look out for Williams. This place should suit their car again.

Williams have been a bit off the boil lately but they did do remarkably well here last year and were a bit unlucky to not be challenging for a win. It would be great to see them do well at this race.

This might be Mercedes weakest track going by last year, but williams are not as close to the Mercs this year and im unsure about the Ferrari.

Although this was one of the best tracks for Ferrari last year, if they are weak here then I Would assume they made more gains on this years car in other Areas.

Alonso might be getting a 20 position grid penalty due to engine parts. Quite a few others in similar, but not as ridiculous, situations.

At this point, I think McLaren couldn't care less about either starting at P18 or P20

Spielberg is a very fast track. Only those teams who can squeeze the most top speed out their engines will have a chance. And McLaren is out of that equation already

I wonder if those with penalties will bother to try make it to Q2.

Surely the smart move would be to just slap on 1 set of hards and just accept last to save tyres for the race.

Max Verstappen imo got really screwed over by the poor decision to use up all the softs in Q1 and Q2 in Canada when he was always going to start last anyway.

The only logical explanation I could think of Is they where trying to get a performance benchmark out of their drivers(STR) to see who is faster.

Sadly this is for UK viewers only, but here are the extended highlights of the '82 Austrian Grand Prix commentated by Muzza and The Shunt.

BBC F1.

I really miss simple, uncomplicated commentary. And not just in Formula One, mind. James Hunt was just the best.

Regarding 1982 in general, it's so disappointing that John Watson didn't win that title. Before that '82 Austrian GP he had failed to score in the previous four races, and would fail to score at Austria and Dijon. A few podiums from that and he would have been out of sight.

...and so is Vettel's Ferrari. Engine reliability could be a big problem here, we're told. Hulkenberg also complaining of lumpy downshifts.

Vettel's problem has been identified as a drivetrain fault and the car has been repaired and ready to go - significantly, the problem did not affect the gearbox, so there will be no penalty.
