Rumours are flying around that McLaren will also change their livery, reintroducing silver for a West-style design, but it doesn't appeae to ge anything more than speculation dressed as fsct.
On the subject of West livery I'm quite surprised Mclaren didn't do with last year's car, what they did when they went to countries that didn't allow tobacco sponsorship when West used to sponsor them and have the drivers names on the side pods. Would have filled the big empty space they had most of the season.

Mind you I quite like the idea of a West inspired livery as that's when I started watching. Hakkinen is still oe of my favourite drivers to this this day and why Mclaren have been my team of choice when it comes to support. Although they'd have to make it less shiny than they did last year which necessitated the repaint.

I wish McLaren would wakeup and see the Orange! Firstly there are no other teams using Orange all over and secondly it's a colour unique to them and very much associated with the marque and it's heritage. Yes I know it used to be used on their test cars, so what, it should be the official colour scheme.

And it's on their GT entries and was their trademark color in the Can-Am days. :)

And it clashes with every other colour. If they swapped the red for orange and kept the black, then it could work, but the straight orange design would be grotesque.

After seeing this tweet, I was under the impression McLaren would have something with red and blue in it.

That might have helped things along, but even when Renault were running back in 2010, there was talk of a blue and yellow livery. It's not a new rumour.

Well it was you saying that they may go that route due to DAMS Formula E. Now it seems you're saying this came up due to people wanting to see the Mild Seven livery/telefonica.

In the end it's good on them for just sticking with the traditional yellow/black/white.

Yes. That's because I did some research and looked at parts of the internet that existed before Formula E.

The must be some history checker considering the correlation between FE birth and the birth of the rumors of Renault full factory return to begin with, don't match up. Point I was making is if you forgot you were the one to create said rumor here, just say so. Kind of like how you confused what I was saying earlier on about the joke I made in regards to old Ferrari human components put out to pasture.

A Renault return has been rumoured since they originally sold the team to Genii, starting with talk that they were only selling to Genii for a year in the hopes that Genii could use their expertise to attract additional revenue streams.

Never heard that rumor especially considering that the sell went down before Renault claimed that RBR were their full factory team, which counter acts the entire notion that they were invested on the market to come back as a full time team. Especially knowing that RBR wasn't interested in being taken over in such a manner.

Anyways this back and forth is a fruitless endeavor especially with the new car coming out

My understanding was that they wanted the opposite of "maximum speed" since those tyres would only be good for 1 flying lap. I know what they mean though when they want a set of tyres they can abuse for a stint / race length and never fear "the cliff" or even worse, failure... But THOSE tyres would be much harder in compound, offering less grip...

Basically, I'm not sure Pirelli can win this one. Maybe they should just do both?! That or we lose control tyres altogether and let teams spend the time and money researching and developing race tyres.

There's nothing wrong with the 'cliff' itself, that exists in all racing tyres, once it's worn out you lose grip. What's wrong is that the drivers cannot push for more than a few laps before ruining the tyres, back when Bridgestone and Michelin were competing the drivers still had to pit for new tyres, but they didn't have to babysit them between stops.

Yep reading it back I have got it wrong regarding any performance cliff. You are right, it is simply the temperature or the surface. If pushed to it's limit for too long (and on some circuits, this is less than a full flying lap), the surface of the tyre gets too hot and starts to blister, which at that point then becomes near impossible to bring back under control.

A tyre that "boils" or runs at a hotter temperature would I suspect still need to be made from a harder grade of rubber though, and I suspect would therefore offer less grip still.

So... thoughts on the Renault livery?
It looks pretty good to me, althought I was expecting to see a yellow car, full Minard style

Adam Cooper, via motorsport.com, has reported that engine tokens are scrapped for 2017.

Good they were stupid to begin with.

Which is ironic considering our talking of Renault's car and the team precedes the thread that was made in the eleventh hour just for the launch, and is not an intended continuation like this thread is. Which will also follow the 10 other teams and cars through the year and not just at launch. I'm sure a certain someone will tell me "it's tradition and blah blah blah" but it's more superfluous than anything.
