They're saying at Eurosport Rocky began flashing his lights from 100 meters before to the Ferrari. Nobody knows.

he was, you could see it in the onboard. but that doesn't mean move out of the way.

just bad timing by audi.

I'm sorry but both Audi are out due to their own drivers taking chances they did not need to.

Trying to come from 2 cars behind and expect the slower car just not to be there, in the racing line, or in this later one, at very high speed, expect a low performance car over that bumpy part to just stay away from someone he never knew was behind is dumb and too risky.

There is no way the slower car can guess what the guy behind will do. And those massive lights hinder more (huge light blurred in BOTH mirrors) than they help.

The guy behind however, especially in a faster car, can CHOOSE when to overtake. And today both Audi are out because both drivers chose poorly.

And can you PLEASE stop bashing the "smaller" cars? If LMP1 should have the track for themselves, they would make SEPARATE RACES.

Traffic is a part of this race, as are mechanical failures and punctured tyres.

They are all racing, and the one passing has all the aces. Bad choices made these crashes.

OMG

Looking at that. I think maybe they didn't touch. It looks like the Audi swerved to avoid and got into the grass and lost it from there.

Tweeter rumours say the Safety Car will stay in the lead until midnight until that big hit to the armco is fixed.

Midnight there? Then that's the best part of 45 minutes...if its GMT though then that's 1 hour 45 minutes...

Totally agreed.

Anyway, let's hope this is the last terrible crash for this race.

I've had a few incidents on GT5 similar to that, clip the grass, lose grip, your a passenger.

a good tip if you have a car is to go out in the night then turn on all the lights you have inside in the car. compare the visibility out of the window. then imagine that times 5 and at 300km/h.

yeah, from LeMans Live on facebook:
"end of safety car in 50 minutes" -12 mins ago-
May be extended after that as well like the first one was if it's still not fixed completely

Midnight there, I think all times are being given in La Sarthe's local time.

"Approximately 40 minutes of safety car left."

Tweet from OAKracing.

Except the Audi was flashing the Ferrari from a ways back. The Ferrari should've seen that.
Should have, yes. Then again, I'm not certain on the Ferrari's rear visibility or whether the driver can tell the lights are flashing considering how bright those LED's are. Finally, I noticed that the Audi flashed the lights from afar but then stopped for 2-3 seconds before flashing them again as he was attempting the pass.

It's a tough situation all around. Technically, the slower car is supposed to hold their line but in that section, that would had meant the Audi had to follow right behind the Ferrari and make the pass on the outside of that kink.

I won't be up after then. :( And I've still got my Le Mans 24h B-Spec race to monitor (I say that when I'm using the FGT though :boggled: ). Also whoops I went off topic. :indiff:

On a more positive note, both crashes on the 66th anniversary of the 1955 crash show just how far safety has come

Yup. Peugeot Sport has now confirmed the same. We have around 40 more minutes of safety car. I guess no records are going to be broken today :guilty:.

Look. At. This. Armco.

That was one though shunt. No wonder they'll take so much time repairing it.

I think it looked like Rocky misjudged where the Ferrari was placed on the track, and simply got caught by surprise that there was grass on his inside line.

what is the topnspeed record?

I think the pugs were doing around 214mph on the speed traps, but i think older cars would have the record from before the two chicanes were introduced

Apparently one of Mercedes' old Group C's could hit 255...

Yeah, but they were Audis, not Mercs...I wouldn't expect to see Mercedes back at LeMans for a while...maybe next year...or 2013.
