Yes, I'm angry about the 5+ years it's taken Sony and PD to get *ONE* game out the door.
Actually since GT4's final region release of early 2005, they have put out:

1) Tourist trophy in Apr 2006
2) GT5 Prologue in Apr 2008
3) GT PSP in Oct 2009

Although GT5 prologue was not a full game, they still put it out at retail to sell, and made a ton of money off it I'm sure.

So in all they have put out 3 games in less than 5 years, but if you take out GT5 prologue thats still 2 games in less than 5 years. With GT5 full coming out next year, thats 1 game every couple years, which is about the average for most companies.

I must say no, even if GT5 comes out in december 2010 and only in malasian language, I will buy it for sure.

Prologue cannot be considered a full game, because it's part of the GT5 development process.

You know what I'm tired of? I have had it with everyone finding every little reason to nitpick and gripe and whine and complain for any reason about this single game. It's so bad that I know if the game had a perfect weather and damage engine, someone would have the gall to complain about some inane windshield wiper activation animation being wrong. I'm so done with this site and all its crybabies.

Keep on crying, kids.

GT is much more than a game title, its an institution and its reputation is in the balance unless on-line play is f'n nailed.

Extreme emphasis on this, well put 👍

I have no problems with the current situation. I will only have a problem if a completed Gran Turismo 5 game is witheld from me (in the U.S.) for marketing reasons. That causes deep, dark rage within. But alas, I can do nothing about it.

who else lol'd?

Seriously though...that post was sad to read.

Also,

Forza/XBOX360 expatriate here.
You all can argue about where/who has the largest market for a game, what cannot be argued is that the US dwarfs the rest of the world when it comes to high speed internet consumers.

umm...Top Countries by Download Speed according to speedtest.com. Do you see US in there? Sorry I know this is unrelated to the thread but I just had to do this.

I'll give you the reason: marketing.

A Japanese company this big has seperate marketing teams for the differents parts of the world, and they don't give a cr*p about what we want. They just want to release it on a date where it sells a maximum of copies in the first few days, so they can release a press note with: look how many copies WE sold on the first day / week.

I pity the 17 people who voted yes.

Well, it is true that PD have one of the worst marketing strategies for a game studio that I've ever seen. It's not that they don't do enough (GT Academy, GT Vision, Prologue demo, Prologue itself, GT5 demo, some trailers) but they just don't advertise it in the right way.

There are a lot of people out there who played GT5:P who don't even know GT acamdemy exist! If Turn 10 were to organise something like this, everyone would know about it.

Normally advertising works like this:
you don't search for the info, you get it shuffled down you throat in an overwelming quantity.
This is the way to create fans and a lot of attention for your game.

PD's advertising works like this:

the true GT fans search the entire internet for a clue of new information about GT, they post it on a forum, it get's picked up by some news site, and only then the major public knows about it.
This way you create threads like this one.

So, it takes PD years to create a new GT game. They've shifted priorities more than once (really, who cares about the PSP version?). They don't always listen to the fans (skidmarks, the SOUND, car makers).
That's all fine by me. As long as you keep your fans entertained!

I don't doubt for a second that GT5 will be the best game of 2010 for me, even with its flaws and missing features.
It just bugs me that we had to go through so much struggling before we finally got to play it.

That may be all fine and dandy...but this is much more relevant to the executives at Sony than a speedtest.net report;

http://www.weforum.org/en/initiatives/gcp/Global Information Technology Report/index.htm

Factor in things like the growing US pop, 75% net penetration, a very high standard of living, and you start to see how important the US is to a business.

If you want to understand 'why' a large company may or may not do something - you have to think like a board member or officer of a large company. The US is #3 on the list of top countries and is easily the largest country, by both population and area, out of the top 10.

If you have a couple hours to burn, the report is quite interesting...

TrievelA7X, the problem here is not PD, it's SCEA. They treat us the american way because it's the north american division of sony entertainment, some times, too many, they act with arrogance, just like your post did, that's all there is to it, SCEA is the product of its environment, like everything else.

PD make the games, Sony advertise them.

This is the way to annoy the hell out of me and get me to hate your product.

This is how I like it. I want the info, I go after it. Kinda like I'm doing when I read this forum.

Sony forced them to do the PSP version. It sucks really when you have to give in for the money but that's the world we live in.

I believe they do listen to the fans. Kaz have been quoted saying that sounds will be one of the big advancements in GT5. If you watch the GT FT-86 promo video you'll be surprised. If that's the sound we will have in the game, it will be nothing but epic.

I'll wait for a full feature list before whining about supposedly missing features.

The sound is every GT trailer has been cosmetic and does not represent the ingame sound.
I do agree with some other points you made, but for the sound, I really wouldn't count on it...

GT5 sure has a tough start...when everything about the game looks already great enough and the release date isn't too far away, it got complaint by "fans" about skidmark, rewind, in-car perspective, trees & grass...and people could get so worked up by a rumor release date.

I mean, come on...GT5 is made by Japanese developer, right? Or you can import the HK/TW version of GT5, it will probably get released at the same time as the JPN version.
