Factor in things like the growing US pop, 75% net penetration, a very high standard of living, and you start to see how important the US is to a business.
If you want to understand 'why' a large company may or may not do something - you have to think like a board member or officer of a large company. The US is #3 on the list of top countries and is easily the largest country, by both population and area, out of the top 10.
If you have a couple hours to burn, the report is quite interesting...
