Are Fictional Courses Good for the Gran Turismo Series?

I was mightily pissed when I found out Special Stage Route 11 wasn't in the game. One of the best parts about that track wasn't the fact that it had a great variety of corners. No.

It was the light up ferris wheel.

El Capitan a miss? I think its incredible, one of the best fictional tracks ive ever seen in any game. I agree about HK and NY though.

El Capitan is marvelous track, but I had tough times to learn it. I love that bumpy horizont by the tunnel. Maybe those comments are by impatient people :sly:

Agreed on El capitan, that is a great fictional track, the section tunnel section is great, not only good corners but some very challenging elevation changes, its a great track.

Hong Kong, London, Seoul Circuit, El Capitan, George V. Paris, and New York have all been misses in my opinion.

I think New York and to a lesser extent Seoul make good 'city tracks', they're nice and wide and give plenty of opportunity for passing without the contact that usually occurs on the other narrower city courses. El Capitan is a classic GT track, it flows really well and looks great too.

Except El Capitan which is really nice track, I can clearly see the reason for other named circuits why are they so boring. They are just too plain, surroundings and especially pavement surface. Whole track is just the same place, few times bent about degrees and with few buildings on sides. And If the London won't get the part with bridges over river, then it will stay boring, no matter what Kazunori thinks himself about that place. If the new york hasn't glowing orange morning sunrays through those buildings and the surface stay the same, it will be deadly boring again.

I would rather have one small part of country roads at my place I know instead of that "circuits of big named city". And I bet it would entertain the players much more.

City tracks will be good for online races. All of those city tracks are less "boring" than High Speed Ring or Midfield. But I want those to return too. ;)

My personal opinion is that although fictional tracks are "part" of GT's history, I'm frankly not that interested in them anymore. I'd much rather to drive (virtually) around tracks such as Donington, Spa, Nurburgring and many others than to drive around Trial Mountain or Deep Forest Raceway. My main reason is that, as a motorsport fan when driving around a "fake" track its not the same experience as driving a real life circuit. With real life circuits you can recreate a race you may have seen on TV or went and spectated at which is much more interesting.

I muse admit, "fake" courses do have some advantages such as the developers being able to let loose a little making incredibley complex tracks and not requiring a license to build the track either. But I think in a modern world more people want to drive around real tracks rather than fictional ones.

In my opinion, if Gran Turismo 5 doesn't have more real life tracks than GT4 then I'll be dissapointed.

The fictional tracks in the first GT is what made me love this game in the first place , so we all have to remember once upon a time all we had were fictional tracks to drive on . So we can't just forget about them because it's the fake what made GT what it si for today. Thats why GT is the BEST.

^ You may have a point there. But as guy who race more for fun than slicing times by the milisecond, I'd say that real tracks (so far, mostly) are boring in a way.

-> Compared to the masterpieces that PD provided throughout the series, only Nurb-North and Suzuka stands out. Although by far, most of the real track offered by GT are quite on the medium to large-size category. For these real tracks to be more fun, we need a little more variety in conjunction with fictional tracks.

Seattle and Rome full courses are two of the best tracks imo, get it wrong and you're in the armco...

Didn't that cryptic message say that there is going to be a feature where you can edit your own tracks? Well, maybe just maybe all the fantasy tracks will be editable so that you can play with the past tracks from all the past versions of GT1,2,3&4. You figure they have tons of data of those tracks just sitting there in PD. Why not reuse it and make more money with very little work involved just uping the resolution, hell maybe they already have it in hi-rez they just downgraded for the older PS 1 and 2.

Amar didn't "say" it exactly, but the hint was pretty strong. I'm getting quite anxious to learn something at E3. Kazunori, you've got to walk on stage with a nice presentation at some point!

Complex String!! Bring that back I say! Complex String for GT5!!! I Loved that track, because it's brilliant in a way that you can test the car to it's full extent.

I agree. I love that track, I used to drive it every day on GT3. I missed it a lot in GT4. Bring it back for GT5!:D

I would be very disappointed if the classics didn't return (Trial Mountain, Deep Forest), but as for new additions to the series? I get much more excited about the prospect of Spa, Brands Hatch, even Sepang being in GT5 than a new fictional course, even if that course is fun to drive.

For example, when prologue came out I was more excited at the chance to drive Daytona than Eiger, even though Eiger is probably a better track in the long run. But Daytona was what I jumped at the opportunity to drive.

More please.

Amen to that! The original GT Courses have been designed to be "fun" to drive. That given, It still is nice to see the new Contrived " tracks from real life areas like Eiger and London. To complete the games tracks, Yes, we SHOULD want more Real Life racing venues as you have stated. I believe that there are several RL Tracks that will be added to GT5, Including some "contrived" tracks like The New "Madrid" track that has been talked about.;)

I don't think GT would be the same without the fictional tracks. GVS, Trial Mountain, Apricot Hill,HSR, Deep Forest, Midfield, Autumn Ring are so iconic it is impossible to leave them out. But i can also see how people want more and more real life tracks. Hopefully this could get resolved with the possibility of DLC or a track editor. Now I would like to see a good mix of both, but instead of just the big internationally known tracks it would be nice to see some of the less known ones like Bathurst, Oulton Park, Watkins Glen, Sugo, Dijon-Prenois, Croft, Knock Hill. Tracks which people may have heard off in their own countries but don't have Formula 1, Moto GP or other internationally known events held on them.

The mix between fictional and real live tracks and city tracks has been done quite well by PD. That' s my humble opinion.

Ofcourse I would like to see Spa, Zandvoort, Imola, Sepang and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. But am am also anxious to the new fictional tracks and the new city tracks. Madrid, Berlin, LA, maybe Rome will be back? :nervous:

So bring on both PD :)

I was pondering this myself a couple of weeks ago, and I was beginning to think perhaps Poly should focus more on real life tracks for the rest of the new courses. But there is one thing where fantasy tracks would shine.

If Kazunori-dono goes crazy and throws a true Career Mode on us, or even loads up GT5 with easy and intermediate courses, fantasy tracks would allow them the luxury of giving us a load of new asphalt to get to know without the expense and trouble of licensing and mapping out an existing course in painstaking detail. Plus as said, it gives GT5 that unique flavor of their artistry, which is very good. I'd love to see many fantasy courses return in GT5 such as Red Rock Valley and the Special Stages. Red Rock should make an excellent F1 course with it's long sweeping curves, and a nice variation from High Speed Ring.

ok now I have a question to you WHAT DO YOU MEAN WITH A true CARRER MODE?:)

Omfg I've been trying to remember the name of that circuit for like weeks now! I loved this track! It was the ultimate testing ground for GT3, until Nordschliefe appeared in GT4.

There need to be real tracks... but on the other hand there are certain tracks like Midfield Raceway etc the game sort of grew up with. Those sorts of tracks have helped make the series what it is today for a part IMHO.

I thought that was one of the best tracks in the game, i love that track bring it back to the game PD.

But then what would be REALLY nice is a couple of fictional tracks the length and difficulty of the 'ring but say based on a Swiss mountain road, a Canadian forest or the Arizona desert. Anyone who has played the early NFS Hot Pursuit games would probably have a kinda idea what I am trying to get across
