Biggest "I'm an idiot" thing you've done in GT5

In the advanced AMG school earlier today, I was at the last corner of the full lap [wet] of Nurburgring. I was finally on for gold but panicked and accelerated hard out of the corner, spun the wheels like mad and then spun off the track.

For about the next 20 tries I couldn't even get close and still haven't nailed it. :(

The word is choked. I've done it many times. :)

My dumbest move. I bought $36,000 race soft tires for my Rx-7 to do the seasonal events. The tire restriction is sports: hard.

The tires cost me almost as much as the car. :(

Bought Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe and bought all tuning parts, doesn't handle well. Later bought the best Dodge Viper and bought best tuning parts, just to find out it doesn't handle well too!

I played GT 5 for two weeks and drove like a champ with ABS and TC off, thought all the people whining about spinning out were babies.

Then realized I had skid recovery force ON and felt the cold hard slap of reality....

On a positive note, it didn't take me long to adjust to driving without it, and I'm now beating my old lap times set with the SRF on.

Spent 450k on a Ferrari F40 because it’s a beautiful car, but utterly useless, and then selling it.

That and trying to get the Penniless trophy. Didn't even do it smart, just kept spending it on cars and parts I didn’t need without trying to even out the odd numbers…I'm back to $1 million when I could have five times that or more…

Diddo, did keep a picture of it though.

My biggest idiot moment was first off not backing up my save when I knew my PS3 was about to die, then it died. Second biggest mistake was buying a frame rebuild on a s2000 that was a huge waste of money, and I think an engine rebuild. Meh. Another was buying the Arta Gayaira thinking it'd help me in the Japan GT racing.

Entered the Dream Car Championship in a Kubelwagen thinking it was my Corvette ZR1 RM. When i found out, instead of quitting, I did a roadblock-ish manuver to block the Citroen GT Race Car, and instead of him flipping over, my car flipped over and landed on a Bentley Speed 8.

In the GTR seasonal event, tuned up a GTR V Spec V to the required bhp, then used every other tune possible including aero and proceeded to thrash the living daylights out of my car on the circuit, being really aggressive with my overtaking and literally throwing the car through the corners... still ended up in 2nd a good 15secs behind the leader...

I thought 'That's it I can do no more to catch the leading car you have to be really ******* good to gold this event'

Then I noticed that I was on sports hard tyres and not the sports soft that you can use for the race :dunce:

on the plus side I had a real blast throwing that GTR around the circuit

Several times I've paused the game half way through a race, then accidentally moved right on the d-pad and quit the race.

PD WHY DO YOU NOT BELIEVE IN CONFIRMATION PROMPTS!!! :|

I've done this too! Makes me laugh how they have multiple confirm prompts for things like adding new tyres etc but not for a race restart :)

THE most stupid thing i've ever done was just now, after running B-Spec FGT for about the last 6 hours, as the final race (Suzuka, in the rain, 30 or so laps) was about to start, i said to myself i just can't be bothered waiting for another hour. I had maximum points, so what was one retirement? As soon as i pressed the exit button i was greeted with words something like "are you sure you want to quit this championship race and retire? Now, i think that's a bit ambiguous - i actually thought for several moments about how ambiguous it was, but decided that PD couldn't POSSIBLY mean retire from the full Championship with actually ASKING ME FIRST.....i hit yes, the screen went black, and stayed black - my heart sunk, it sunk even further when i spotted the devastatingly simple word SAVING at the bottom of the screen. What a dork!

The worst thing I have done was to buy expensive parts for a car I didn't need to modify. I thought I had selected another car but I hadn't. :ouch:

It made me think that it's bad we can't see a picture of our car within the tuning shop. It would catch our attention and prevent such mistakes.

First place, last lap, Formula Gran Turismo Series, Last race. I thought it would be fun to Ebrake and do a 360 thru the finish line, hit the wall, lost all velocity, 4 cars pass before I line.
Guy in second with points beats me by 5.

Have not done the series since.

Ha haha lol that happened to me too

Daftest thing For me so far was running out of fuel on the INDY 500, did it twice ! wondered why my car suddenly nearly stops, then noticed the fuel gauge was empty.
It's easy to do because this race is so boring, though it leaves just enough in the tank to limp round to the pits for re-fuel.

Try running out of fuel just before the Karoussell doing the 24 hour endurance in GT4. The last part of the Nordschleife is VERY VERY long at 80km/h (-:

Me and a friend have a bit of banter from time to time, this latest episode ending in me painting his AC Cobra passionate pink. With lime green wheels. He sent it to me for a tune. I purchased another LFA for the paint chip, and painted the wrong car, My AC cobra. So I bought another LFA.

Was smoking hookah with a friend while playing GT5. The music was too loud, so we couldn't hear our cars in split screen. So I went to the audio options and disabled race bgm...or so I thought...

We ended up listening to the techno music that my brother put on the PS3. He puts on techno whenever I'm with him to annoy me.

God I hate techno...

On that first seasonal event there was a time trial, and I noticed everybody was using some ARTA car. But I couldn't find that car anywhere. There's no manufacturer called Arta. But then I finally found it - it's the Autobac's Arta! Spent a not insignificant sum of money on it - but I was so happy!

Too bad that seasonal event is closed now. :(

When I first got the game I loaded it in and went straight to work on the licensing tests, thinking that you would need to pass them before racing like GT4.

Now I’m playing with the D-pad and I’m having problems and I’m thinking the brakes suck and this is hard.

But I was getting bronze and that was good enough for now, but after passing the first few and with the problems I was having I knew something was wrong... I finally realized that I has using the E-brake to stop the car and not the brakes.

That’s my biggest idiot moment. :guilty:

Ive been curious about the damage modeling, and for that reason I have smashed a couple or more veichles into the walls.

Just thinking it would be interesting to see how the damage would turn out on the specific car I was driving at that moment, smashing it at some corner, and then kept on driving without worries.
So Ive done this randomly, on a pretty regular basis, just out of curiousity :sly:

Yesterday I found some article saying that cars that get beaten up to much during race events in GT life will need repairing in GT auto, and that it can cost a significant amount of credits.
And so seem to be the case.

Have found atleast a handful of cars in need of rapair with costs ranging from 70k to 250k.
I dont know how many more "trashed" cars there is in my garage, and to be honest, I dont really wanna know.
Just hoping it will not have a massive impact on how the cars handle.

Bought an Insight for the seasonal race... Did some engine stage modifications before checking the HP limits... had to buy another one to be able to compete. :ouch:

I just did the same thing with 2 hours and 58 minutes. I was so close to through my controller into the TV!! :grumpy:

PD please in the next update make a request if you want to reset or quit the game!!

3 h 25 into the 4 hour roadster race I paused to stop my 8 month old baby from pulling the PS3 out of the cabinet and when I pressed X to resume it restarted the race... I thought the save feature was lacking before and now, well, I could just scream! Wake up PD.

buy a spoiler to a car. then realise it dosnt fit.. but wait I didnt throw my beatuful original spoiler out (it sits in the garage and waits for me :sly:). why cant i put it back! there is even a option with selecting aerodynamics in tuning, but it canot be removed.. what a waste on my beatufil fully tuned 1,000,000 Cr worth white Skyline with white rims.. ohh dear. :nervous:👎:nervous:

I ran Suzuka 1000km two times so far.

Once in a slightly less competitive JTGC car, finishing second to AI

Once in my brand new X1 I won from Vettel challenge, just because I wanted to have 900+km on the odo before I pretty much perma-park the thing.

I missed the pit-in almost every single stint, running out of fuel fairly consistently on the front stretch. I still won by like 70 laps or something obscene, but the race took well over four hours.

Stupidest thing i've done?..... buying GT5 Prologue.....

Seriously, I was doing the 9 hour endurance and roughly 7hrs in i had a toilet break, made a cuppa, had a sandwich, turned the power off and went to bed. It was while i was getting into bed i said...."DOH!"

Tuning a Mustang GT for the Seasonal Event, to the max power permitted, with all the best suspensions and gear ratios installed, even installing spoilers and painting it metallic black, only to screw it up over-lowering the min weight by 10 kg. Oh dear, at least I won the Muscle Championship with it.
