May I join Saturday's race at Daytona? :D

I'd be using the Asparta RX-7 from Ai Mama Mia. Already bought it and I'm a little familiar with it already since I used to have it before my PS3's HDD dumped itself. B)

Gent's, There is a fair chance I won't be able to partake in this weekends event, I was in a horrific truck accident last night and I barely remember it, plus I have many scans and tests and x-rays to for go before the end of today, pending tests I may not be able to compete, I maybe online prior to race time but that would be only to supervise my WEC event, but most likely not racing, (results pending ofcourse,)

Good to have you pain. Please get in lots of practice, with full damage in effect the consequences of not training can be disastrous for yourself and others :scared:

yeah, been runing practice, only damage i got was if i try take the bus stop at 240 (nearly did it too) and span out :/ or comming out of pits and getting no steering on the grass and sliding into the barrier

Micho - I'm sure that will be fine. There are still a few spots, especially if poor Dave drops out

Joining is fine Micho but there's only the Lexus available I'm afraid.

👍
I absolutely agree. In the real race you are not allowed to enter the track at turn 1 (they have cones placed there and you are not allowed to cross), neither should you for our race either IMO.

Also, to add on to ANFD, you want to enter pit lane under 80MPH or risk penalty. It comes in two forms
1. If you enter too fast, it sends you car back to the beginning on pit in, costing a second or two
2. Occassionally it also gives you a drive through without stopping. This one can cause loads of time!

so be careful and practice pitting if you get the chance.

Sounds like pit lane speeding on entry is taken care of automatically, but the exit of the pit lane is a different matter and needs some rules applying.

I agree that the correct pitlane exit should be adhered to for all, because by joining at turn 2 it is about 8 seconds quicker than staying in lane all the way to the correct exit around turn 5.

I propose a post race 25 second penalty be added to any cars total race time (roughly equivalent to a drive through) that takes the short cut. We all watch the replays, so it'll be easy to enforce :)

Any objections to that?

Hmm. Didn't realise there was more than one way to get out of pit lane. Guess that means I have been coming out at turn 2. I'll have to take a closer look.

8 seconds? Are you sure about that? :odd:

Good news guys, I'm not broken, Just severly beaten, heavy bruising everywhere, arms, wrists, head, neck, ribs, back, knees, feet, The doctor was surprised at how bad the bruising is that I have no broken bones, broken neck or spine, I have no recollection of the crash from around just short of the impact through too around a minute after but even then its still very patchy for 4 hours,

I don't think I will be able to race for that distance, having potentially run the WEC race if I can make it through to the end of that, I may stop through for a look see and g'day though if that's alright with everyone,

Also, What time GMT does this actually get underway, 2230GMT, or is that when the lobby opens? if so, how much time is there between the lobby opening and qualifying?

Good to read the good news, Dave. 👍 Take care!

I second a time tabel, maybe the event countdown we had for some of earlier races.

Lobby open - time
Quali- time
Race start - time

Just my 1 cent.

Mate, it sounds like you will be lucky to be able to sit in a chair for two and a half hours, let alone race! Glad to hear nothing serious though :)

You should hear him laugh or caugh. Hope all is well Dave and have a speedy recovery!

I guess I bought the wrong car for this event though. :/ I'll see if I can get on a bit earlier to get some credits before Dave's WEC race starts. I'll have to get practice and tuning in before then too!

Glad nothing is broken Dave. Sounds like you're a lucky man as it must have been quite a wreck. Wonderful that you're going to be ok after some rest and healing.

As for the times, Qualifying starts at 22:30GMT, race starts promptly at 23:00GMT.

And as for the pit Exit, the amount of time it takes to cut across into the track at turn 1 or drive all the way through the actual pit exit lane is negligible. I tested it and you might save .5 seconds by cutting across into traffic.
The biggest challenge in taking the skinny pit exit is the sharp left turn near the wall with full damage. You can hit that wall if you don't slow down and incur damage. This has occurred in the real Daytona 24hr race many times, so it should be part of the race for us too.

Can we get an official verdict Heathenpride on the specific rules/penalty for pit exit? I'm with Gadget that we should be required to use the long/skinny pit exit lane and join the track approaching turn 3. As for what the penalty should be, that's your call.

for those not as familiar with the track, we are referring to the skinny pit exit lane to the left as you go out of the pits. This picture shows it better. The red line to the left of the main track in this picture:

you join the track after the turn 2 chicane.

I'm doing some practice in a few hours, expect final pit exit protocol (PEP) then plus a PEP talk before race start lol

so HP, what times the lobby open tomorrow? 6:30ish?

The lobby will open in 11 and a quarter hours mate.

Qualifying will open in exactly 11 hours 45 minutes, can ALL drivers please try to be in the room 15 min prior to the start of qual.

PIT EXIT PROTOCOL FOR DAYTONA AS FOLLOWS:

When the auto pilot disengages after a pit stop it does so at turn 1 but there is another lane, to the left of turn 1, that takes you further around to a safer point of egress.

ALL drivers on ALL pit stops are to MANUALLY drive down the small lane IN SECOND GEAR NO FASTER THAN 80KMH (50MPH) and exit onto the track when it ends. You will know when to accelerate when you pass the end of the blue wall on your right, this is the safest method as it allows you to see track traffic and gives you time to avoid any mishaps whereas the initial exit does not, and with full damage on it would cause untold carnage and more than a few angry PM's to a certain Heathen...

The above will be covered off in the morning with a visual drive through by myself with all drivers in the watch race screen observing.

PRACTICE SESSION UPDATE:

Starting next week, at the same time as the race normally starts, I will be hosting a 1 hour practice race for the Spa race, 2 weeks after that it will be the same for Sarthe and then again for Nurb 2 weeks after that so from now on there will be a practice race every other weekend. This allows you all (except Johan, sorry dude :guilty: ) a week to practice for the practice race and then a further week to fine tune and practice for the race proper, I think we would all benefit from this.

Posting in this thread with your intent to participate (in that weeks practice) will suffice for entry advice.

As always if you have any Q's send them my way 👍

ps3 save data corrupted. lucky for the back ups :/, had a bloody heart attack when it said do you wish to start again -_-

I'm happy with this, 75 laps it is.

On a side note I've got 12gb of internet left til 1 May, given this may easily get used (I live with 5 others) my net may get shaped to 256kbps and that won't be enough for racing methinks. As such I'm now a possible non starter, will try keep enough for the race but practice would be non existent :(

you all good on internet now? and also how will the race start? like we all stop and get into qual order? like that 4 hr of nurb thing? and were do we launch for qual? single file out of that pit lane?

My private lounge is open now.

Well it would appear that my internet ran out on lap 35 :( disconnected.

Good luck to all. Some great driving and excellent racecraft.

Apologies to Pain and WIDFO for the taps and also to Mic for not letting you by, I knew you were coming but figured you'd draft past, then I looked behind and there you were on my backside like an angry boil

Keep up the great racing :)
