Are you suggesting your doing 1.57s Mic?

No, 1:54.xxx with fresh RS tires.

I was referring to Scott's lap with a draft it turns out. I can shave 2 seconds:D
of course, so can you guys:nervous:

So we're doing 78 laps? (or thereabouts)

Well..... You should be glad I can't attend, I won't tell you my lap, you'll cry

Just curious why everyone is posting times with RS tires when we are regulated to RM's ? Is there something that I don't know :dunce:

Hello. Given that this is a championship and the points system is lowest wins, does that mean that all who did not start last weekend get 7 points?

I won't be any good at daytona road. Somehow I have avoided driving more than a handful of laps there the whole time I've had gt 5.

I think you'll like Daytona Road Course as it's a good track for online competition in much the same way as High Speed Ring .... it has some nice wide areas for side by side and the long straight allows cars to "stretch their legs" where drafting comes into play nicely. Add to that the technicalities of the brake zones going into turn 1 and the "Bus Stop" chicane, it will inject opportunities for errors and consequently mix it up a bit :) The real world 24 Hours of Daytona is a great race to watch in my opinion. I think you might enjoy it :)

I'm hoping to be much more competitive here than I was at Laguna.

Well, i asked what "RM minimum" meant last week and Gadget said it meant we can use RM or RS.

What does this mean exactly:

Race 1: Laguna Seca - RS minimum
Race 2: Daytona Road - RM Minimum
Race 3: Spa - RH Minimum
Race 4: Le Sarthe - RH Minimum
Race 5: Nurburgring Type V - RM Minimum

Does minimum entail for Laguna Seca we all must use RS only
Daytona we can use RM or RS
Spa we can use RH, RM or RS
Le Sarthe we can use RH, RM , RS
Nurb we can use RM or RS

I've never seen it written that way before, so if you could just clarify your meaning, it would be appreciated.

thanks.

That's my take on it Mic

noone else replied to me. Even sent PM to the bossman.

Mic, that's what I understood, but ultimately it's Bossmans call and it appears that we both misunderstood so Daytona is RM or worse

I can assure you my lap was done on RM tires, Scott had set the reg's that way,

Sorry for confusion, RM minimum means you can use RM, RH etc but not RS - sorry about that.

This is why I questioned the RS tires

thanks, i missed that reply.

so, RM it is. Hard to believe i could possibly be 5 seconds off pace, i'll have to hit the track some more and see what i can do.:odd:

Wow Mic, I think this maybe the weakest track for your car, I can't get it better then a 1.55

 MR cars are my weakness, even the Audi R8 I struggle to do something with,

Well..... You should be glad I can't attend, I won't tell you my lap, you'll cry

My time on RM is about the same as RS here for some reason.

Working on my tune and have shaved a second or two. Not much more I can improve I doubt except consistency. Doing around 1:53 now.

So, how many laps would it take you to lap me Dave? I could use a good cry, let me have it.

Just for the record ... my best so far in the Celica is 1:55.288 so you probably won't be at the back Mic :dopey: Maybe I can draft you 💡

Also, my car has the same similarity as you with the RS and RM tires :)

i figure if i'm losing lap time it's on the 2 long speedway sections. My car seems to top out around 155MPH; if i recall, the celica can go much higher than that. I can reduce my aero even more and increase top-end MPH, but that sure does make the Bus-Stop a tricky proposition!:scared:

I think i'm done fiddling with the car. Now i just have to figure out how to mentally prepare myself for 2.5 hours of this track. I'm pretty good up to 2 hours, but beyond that weird things start to affect my brainium.

With full damage, I'm inclined to give up straight line speed for the trade off of not having to pit every 3 laps for repairs. I go into every endurance race with the mind set of racing the track and not making any mistakes and then usually space out just enough to bend the car up at least a couple times :nervous: I am finding that as I get older, my reflexes and eye-hand coordination are as good as ever, but I have much more issue with mental focus than I used to. I don't know how Paul Newman used to do it 👍👍

I've done some 4 hour races and was surprised at how quickly time can go by when you're absorbed in the details of race-craft and fighting for position.

Just to be a little "pro-active" here, I would recommend that people get familiar with the pit exit for this track. It's not proper form to pull back onto the track prior to turn 2 and it's recommended that people use the entire pit out lane exiting between turn 2 and 3. That being the case, the very tight bend in this exit lane has, in real life, taken out some very good professional drivers (Jeff Gordon comes to mind in the 24 Hours of Daytona) so with full damage, it's as critical as any other corner :)

I absolutely agree. In the real race you are not allowed to enter the track at turn 1 (they have cones placed there and you are not allowed to cross), neither should you for our race either IMO.

Also, to add on to ANFD, you want to enter pit lane under 80MPH or risk penalty. It comes in two forms
1. If you enter too fast, it sends you car back to the beginning on pit in, costing a second or two
2. Occassionally it also gives you a drive through without stopping. This one can cause loads of time!

so be careful and practice pitting if you get the chance.

Oh please, oh please let the rx7 have an edge at this track. I guess I should jump on track and find out.

Thanks for the tips guys. As with the last race, I am away right now and the earliest I will be back home to practise is Weds evening. Thankfully my TMB teammate Scott is pounding around and working on setup of the Scooby so at least I will have a decent tune to look forward to, but Daytona is not one of my favourites. Add to that the Scooby seems to be someway back from where it was at Laguna and I fear I will be in damage limitation mode and just shooting for a decent points finish to keep me in the championship hunt.

Must say I'm more than a little pleased to hear Mics Arta is struggling for pace too.....

Sorry Mic, it's not personal, it's business LoL

I might not be able to race, but I took a copy of the replay of Round 1 with me to my G/F's so have managed to write a Race Report for all to enjoy, or in some cases, try to forget :)

Race Report – GT300 Round 1 – Laguna Seca – 80 Laps (approx. 2 hours)

30 mins Qualifying Results

Therefore the Starting Grid looked like this:-

1. Micantony – Autobacs ARTA Garaiya (Orange #43)
2. Gadget334 – CUSCO Subaru Impreza (Black #77)
3. I-was-ere (Scott) - – CUSCO Subaru Impreza (Black #77)
4. Davidb_165 – Toyota WEDSPORT Celica (Yellow/Blue #19)
5. WIDFO – RE Amemiya Mazda RX7 (Yellow #7)
6. ANFD - Toyota Celica Wedsport (Yellow/Blue #19)

Track Dry – Tyres RS

After a one lap formation lap the race gets underway and immediately Mic starts to edge away from the pack.

Lap 3

Scott passes Gadget for 2nd on Rahal Straight

Lap 5

WIDFO loses it and hits the barrier hard causing massive damage, losing him 5th place, and ensuring an unscheduled pitstop to repair damage.

Lap 6
Mic leading Scott by 5 seconds. Gadget a further 5 seconds back in 3rd, then David, ANFD and WIDFO.

Lap 21
Scott runs wide and brushes the wall but escapes damage. Regardless he pits for new rubber but in doing so drops to 5th.

Lap 22
Scott rapidly closes on David and at the last time there is front to rear contact. Scott slows to ensure he doesn’t gain an advantage and then passes him later on in the lap fairly and squarely to get back into 3rd.

Lap 24
ANFD on his new rubber quickly closes up on Gadget and unlaps himself at the Corkscrew(T8). Already signs of varying pit strategies with Mic and Gadget still on their original tyres, and others having stopped around lap 20/21. Will 2 or 3 stops be the winning formula in this 80 lap race?

Positions after 26 laps

Mic makes his first pitstop, and Gadget also comes in for fresh rubber and a splash of fuel allowing Scott back into 2nd.

Lap 27
On the Rahal Straight, WIDFO, on old tyres runs wide and sustains damage, allowing ANFD to take 5th in the battle of the Celicas.

Lap 33
Scott gets down the inside of ANFD at T5 to lap him.

Lap 34
In what appears an identical battle, Gadget laps WIDFO after a better exit from Turn 4.

Lap 42
ANFD gives Gadget plenty of room to pass on the start finish straight putting him 2 laps down on the leading trio.

Lap 44
As Scott makes his 2nd scheduled stop allowing Gadget back into 2nd.

Positions at the end of Lap 45

Lap 51
Scott has been flying on his new rubber and eventually hauls in the gap to Gadget and then passes at Turn 8.

Lap 56
Gadget pits for what should have been his final stop…..but forgets this would be his last stop (original plan was to 3 stop but changed tactics when realised tyre deg was better than expected, and that Mic was going long too) resulting in him only adding 12, instead of the required 18 litres of fuel to make it to the end. Big mistake, a further splash and dash would be required before the end of the race for him.

After some really quick laps from Scott, compounded by Mic slowing as his second set of tyres gave up grip, by the time Mic makes is scheduled stop for what should be his final set of tyres, the gap between 1st and 2nd is visual once more.

Mic shaping up to put another lap on WIDFO at Turn 1

Davidb’s RX7 at the Corkscrew holding a solid 4th place

Lap 74
Davidb’s RX7 is running with damage and on old rubber, and runs wide and onto the kitty litter on the exit of T9, and has to completely cut T10……

Scott pushing hard on new rubber comes upon davidb recovering onto the track at Turn 10. The RX7 is weaving and doesn’t see Scott approaching at speed. The resulting collision is a disaster for Scott who has to pit to repair the damage, and in doing so loses 2nd to Gadget

Lap 78
With the unplanned pitstops from the two Cusco cars, Mic has now lapped the entire field. Meanwhile Scott is pushing like hell to recover and at least catch Gadget. He is posting mid 1:24 second laps (Gadget mid 1:25’s, and Mic on older rubber is mid 1:26’s) but Scott pushes too hard and runs wide on the exit of T6, and then arrows across the track on the Rahal straight to the inside of the track hitting the barrier hard and picking up more damage. He’ll need another stop to repair this. His pitstop brings even more woe, as his shiny new broadband connection chooses that moment to D/C him, just 2 laps from the end. Touch break! This drops Scott down to 5th place as WIDFO was 3 laps down at time of DC with only 2 laps remaining. Hardly a fair reward for a hard drive that kept Mic honest right up until 10 laps from the end.

Lap 80
The two Celica’s have shared a lot of track time together and the end of the race is no different with ANFD chasing WIDFO hard to try and lap him for a 2nd time.

Gadget is determined to at least get back onto the lead lap, and chases Mic all the way taking full advantage of his newer rubber. Equally Mic now has a personal battle to resist being unlapped.

In the end a bit of showboating style zigzagging on the run to the flag allows Gadget to JUST get in front as they cross the line, thus ensuring he finished on the lead lap (well…..technically anyway, if not morally).

Final Results after 80 laps
Mic was unbeatable today. Some good scraps for the lesser places, but it’ll be interesting to see how the different cars take to the very different challenge of the Daytona Road Circuit in 2 weeks time. Next time the drivers will have to hold focus for an extra 30 mins, as it’ll be a 2.5 hour endure.
Bring it on!

Great race report gadget, love reading them!

To business, a few OP updates:

1. I have updated the OP with the following, thanks for pointing it out guys - I had meant to initially include it but it slipped my mind, it applies for ALL races 👍

Blend Line ruling: ALL drivers MUST observe the blend line in ALL pit stops. this is vital on some tracks and can cause some serious headaches for other drivers. The blend Line is the line dividing the racing part of the track and the pit lane, please ensure you remain in the pit lane until the Blend Line ends.

2. I will also be updating the OP with updated wording for the tyre specs, apologies for the confusion there :dunce:

3. Update will also be made to the drivers list with final car choice for ANFD and WIDFO.

4. Added points table and points allocation for non starters and non finishers being points equal to ONE more than the lowest place driver. Example: HP finishes in last place (8th) but there are non starters and non finishers, each of them get 9 points. If I finished last in 5th place then each non starter gets 6 points and so on.

POINTS TABLE AFTER RACE 1 - least number of points wins championship:

  1. Micantony - 1 point
  2. Gadget334 - 2 points
  3. Davidb165 - 3 points
  4. ANFD - 4 points
  5. I-was-ere - 5 Points
  6. WIDFO - 6 points
  7. Cobani - 7 points*
  8. TDZDave - 7 Points*
  9. Knukken - 7 points*
  10. Schoonsy - 7 Points*
  11. Heathen - 7 Points*

*Number of asterisks denotes each DNS or DNF.

I have a general question for Bossman. Are any of the last 3 races (Spa, Le Sarth, Nurb) going to be 'Change Weather' and if yes, how will you determine the settings?

They will be yes, all conditions will be set to be as close as possible to the real world weather at those tracks on the day of the race.

I will default set the changeability to 3 as it is the setting I find to be most consistent with changing weather patterns.

Unless of course the RL weather is a torrential downpour with no chance of changing, then it will be set to 0 :scared:

Thanks for the clarification and like your thinking on how the weather is determined. It's the same as we did for the Nurb 24 race. Seeing I'm using a 4WD car, I will of course be doing a rain dance a few days before each race 💡
