Getting all the random noise we make to flow is a complicated process. No need to be sorry Wee_Man, music was made to be heard.

I've managed to do something for the end bit of your piece. Though the timing is sodded up. I'll put it on the placey where i put my riffs and you put your riffs (forgets name as is too tired to give a monkey's) tommorow.

I recently uploaded another file. It's a song I'm starting to write but bear in mind that I've only been playing for four months and never had lessons. It's horrible but it's something.

Sorry guys I haven't had a chance to get something put together yet...I have a couple of project that are pressing for my attention. :) I got the files though, and will hopfully have something together after the holidays.

hmm, this sounds interesting (now that i can slightly play guitar)
I Know A Small Rift my friend Taught Me , i'll record it a bit later on and then wait for pako to tell me where to send it.

Lot's of guitarists! I just picked myself up a brand new guitar this weekend, and i know a way to record stuff on the computer. I'm not very good at guitar, mind you, but i can probably think up some really simple, yet nice, rhythms.

I'm working on "Pipeline" by The Ventures right now.. I'm still working on the rhythm to that song, but it is coming along very nicely.

Oh, and just for technical purposes, i'm gonna let you know how i can hook my amp up straight to the computer, because its rather simple. First, you take a regular computer speaker cable (make sure both ends look like the ends on headphones/a mic) then you get a converter that converts the small headphone jack end to the larger (amp-size) end. I have one both of these items. Then you just simply plug the converter end into the amp, and the other end into the mic port on the sound card. With this method, there won't be any background noise at all. :)

or you could just hook up the guitar directly to the computer, like i did , its way simpler than having your amp hooked up too

Have you guys considered a Radial Tonebone overdrive/distortion pedal? It uses a real 12AX7 preamp tube, and they sound amazingly similar to a guitar amp pushed to the limits. I bought one the first time I additioned one. I now push this pedal for overdrive tones, and use my Marshall as simple clean preamp, and power amp. I'm going to have my Palmer Speaker Simulator repaired so I can use the twin guitar amp set up I had before, before my PSS broke.

They are not preamps, so the signal stays unbalanced. Problem is, they tend to get a little noisy when you push them hard. But, easing back on the drive level, and using a good noise reduction device cleans them up nicely.

I play a few instruments but I don't have a mic. I'd love to get into it. I have managed to get myself recorded on a few mp3's but... I can't do anything new for this thread without a mic.

I'll get one eventually but it might be a while. :(

I'd like to hear what you've got so far if someone wants to put up the mp3 or something...

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but, you need to practice more. :D
How long have you been playing?

What tuning are you in? It didn't sound like standard tuning. I didn't hear any usual chords.

What amp ya got? Any effect processors? Maybe I could help ya out with some settings, and tunings.

Hey, I noticed your in California. Where abouts? I get, and have, a bunch of guitar stuff, maybe I could send ya some?

Don't stop playing; keep practicing! I didn't start playing like Eddie Van Halen or Zakk Wylde from the beginning myself, but I was having fun while learning, so I hope you are too! 👍

I live in Azusa, CA. Its abouta 10 minute or so drive from Pasadena. Southern CA.

Anyway, its standard tuning with a ton of distortion. I have no distortion pedal, all i was using is the amp distortion. I have a 15watt crate amp.

I've been playing for 3 weeks, and yes, i sux. :P

I don't know any chords. I do not take classes. Heh. I just played some random stuff that i thought sounded cool. Haha.

Free stuff, eh? ;) Haha.

Three weeks? Not bad for three weeks.

You need to know what tuning your in. You have to get a guitar tuner. Set the low E string to 440, and the rest can follow, provided your guitar has proper intonation.

I live in San Antonio Heights, which is about 12 miles east of Azusa. It should be no problem to mail them to you.

Nice. Do you have any sort of messenger service? I'd like to talk more on there. :)

As far as how my guitar is tuned, it is tuned EBGDAE, aka, standard. I checked it both with my tuner and with the 5th string thing. You know, you take your finger, put it on the 5th fret of the string, and strike the string below it. The sounds would match if tuned correctly..

Yes, i do have a tuner. It's not very good, though, due to the fact that the microphone on it does not turn off when a cable is plugged in, it is VERY hard to tune with.

OK, good, you know about the fith fret thing. But remember, the G string is played at the fourth fret to tune the B string. Once you perform that, do the natural harmonic tuning. After doing that, check for proper intonation, marking down on a paper what needs to be adjusted the next time you change the strings. Unless you want to start over with a good set of strings still on the guitar.

Here's a tip to increase string life; that's if you don't mind playing with dead strings like I do. Tune somewhere between E and Eb. I tune closer to E, but not at E. Reducing the string tension a tiny bit really makes the strings last a lot longer, and it doesn't sound so far off from standard tuning. Tuning all the way to Eb could interfere with pinched or natural harmonics. But a lot of players play with a Eb flat tuning, Eddie Van Halen (old stuff), Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Billy Gibbons, etc...

Have you tried a dropped D tuning yet? Just tune the low E to D. That's it. Eddie Van Halen invented this awesome little device called the D-Tuna. You can switch the low E string from E to D tuning while playing. I sounds pretty damn cool. I had one on my old Wolgang Standard Custom Deluxe guitar, but I didn't like the guitar that much, so I sold it recently. But, I just ordered a new Wolfgang Special Custom Deluxe, so I hope to have a D-Tuna to play with again soon.

Sorry, I no longer have instant messenger service. I didn't agree to their new terms of service, and they kicked me off. MSN bastards!

Hmm.. I see.

I'm not a professional at tuning, yet! I don't know all this natural harmonics and eb stuff.. Nor intonation.

Yes, i've tried drop d. Quite fun, but i like standard tuning better unless im trying to play somethign hard, or with a deeper tone, such as System of a Down.

Also, there is AIM (aol instant messenger) - it's just a quick download, and is very simple to use.. Just an idea. :)

hmmm, I'm only a few miles away from both of you.

Anyway, I checked out the mp3's, thanks for putting them up. That's really pretty good for 3 weeks! Now I understand your comment about your fingers getting tired. :) They tend to when you're starting out.

I take it you're already with the classic metal power chord. Basically all you have to do to do a decent rendition of some of the metal classics is stick to the lowest two strings.

The fingering for those two for E minor is open and second fret right? So just stick with that spacing and move up the neck of the guitar. So if you're playing the 2nd fret on the bottom E string, you're also playing the 4th fret on the next string.

While you're doing this, rest your left hand over the other 4 strings, that way when you strum, they won't sound.... do that and you're ready to be a rockstar! :)

It sounds pretty good for smoke on the water anyway until you start adding a few more strings and doing crazy stuff.

Practice stretching out your fingers a bunch and work them hard so that you don't get so tired.

Wait until you're more comfortable with the guitar until you start to get into natural and artificial harmonics.

ALRIGHT Acid X! That awesome! It's always good when I hear of someone getting into music. I hope that it becomes as prosperous for you as it has become for me..... I call playing music 'My Drug of Choice". It's good medicine. :)

 and keep on rockin'

Right on, danoff. I learned that power chord (right?) by someone showing me how to play the intro to Green Day - Brainstew.. Heck, its pretty much the same thing throughout the whole song!

I've been practicing alot, and sometimes my girlfriend gets mad at me for it. Hah.

Thanks for the support, Pako. I've been awntign to learn guitar for a long while, but i've just recently gotten one. Luckily, my girlfriend gave me her amp too! :)

Not bad there, Acid X! 👍 Sounds better with the reduced distortion. You're writing stuff right off the bat, which is a good sign.

Did any of those chords I sent you help? If you need help with learning to streach your fingers, try playing this chord from time to time (below). This should help streach the muscles in your hand gradually. Strum downward slowly, and with gentleness. To make this chord sound "warmer," use your thumb. Make sure to press on the string lightly, and strum downward around the 20th fret.

I clipped some more lessons for you, and I will be mailing them soon! Give it about another week, and you should have everything. Let me know how it's going from time to time, so I can get you started on the natural, artificial, pinched, tapped and rested finger harmonics. They're next, and then hammer-ons! Woo-hoo! :D

I enjoy my distortion, though! Haha.

I dont know how to strum back and forth.. Still need to practice on taht.

I havent been practicing those chords! I just never really remember them.. My friend says you dont have to learn chords to play guitar good, but its good to knwo some of them.

I know, that's no excuse, but im sorry! I'll TRY to practice the chords, but i dont think i'll remember them..

I'm looking forward to the mailing! :)

Do yourself a big favor and STOP listing to your friend!

How the hell can anybody play the guitar without chords?

The ones I sent you were the chords most often used. So, you're gonna have to learn them. But, if you want to have fun first, go right ahead. Fun is what it's supposed to be about; not "homework," right? 👍

Haha, right. He didnt say he didnt learn any, he just said he didnt learn many.. ;)

I'll try to work on them whenever im in the mood for some real quitar playin. ;)
