Did 1 Race C this evening. In between PGA 2K21 golf games. The golf relaxed me. Driving was also relaxing.

Switched from the Toyota to the Subaru and got my QT down a bit and started 3rd/finished 6th. Decent race but my race laps were like 2 sec slower than practice, I need to figure that out.

If your entry speed is good hairpins need a quicker turn in most of the time. I try to hit a late apex with the car pointed at the exit if it's really tight.
I've always had trouble with the tighter hairpins on most tracks. My turn in is slower than it should be and that is causing some problems the more I think about it. I'll put your advice into practice tomorrow and hopefully cut a bit of time from my laps.

Had a decent night at spa, in one race I was 10th at blanchimont and finished p4 lol. I saw it coming though, took a wide line to avoid the carnage then blasted through the mess.

I am using the ft1 and man, the very last corner I cannot spool the turbo and I am bogging down badly, sometimes losing half a second there.

Briefly going into first on turn in then short shift to second helped me. I dig the FT1 and used it at LM a few weeks ago. Coming out of T2 or any real tight corner eliminated the lag and was always quicker. At LM it was worth .6 to .8 in the first sector. I may actually give it a go tomorrow. It holds up well against the Supra if you drive it right.

Edit. I retract the above. Did some laps with it and it was quicker to rev first gear out so the rpms are higher when shifting in to second.

Been hitting the ball a bit too, not as good as the old Tiger Woods games but OK.

I went from the Evo to the WRX and both were fine, but I gave in and tried the Atenza and I do much better in it. Always do well with that car and was using it loads before I realised it was meta at many tracks. So I'm using it cos I like it not cos it's meta.

Any time the Supra is meta, I end up in the FT1. They both rotate well and feel quite similar but the Supra's TC is terrible. On TC1 she will spin on a whim, TC2 and she bogs down like crazy, so much power loss. One needs to be careful in the FT1 as it too can bog if you abuse the TC but it is easier to modulate for it than in the supra. At Spa, I seem to be catching the SUpra crowd through the mid lap esses and also through Les Combes and Malmedy but losing time exiting the final chicane and exiting la Source.

It is a very weird feeling to me as my default car is the Mercedes whch is the COMPLETE opposite to these cars, it is all about beautiful TC that bites but rarely bogs and getting a huge launch out for every corner, she suffers through switchbacks and sweeping turns though. I am going to give the AMG another run tonight with TC off entering Eau Rouge to see if that helps.

But when you ram another driver off the track to take their position simply because you don't like that they passed you after you made a mistake, then you're a POS.
That person gets splattered against a wall, next time I see them. #VigilanteJustice :D

That's usually the case with C races.

There are two reasons that I'm aware of.
1. Tire wear. Obviously, tires remain perfect during qualifying.
2. Fuel weight. Also, the cars have zero fuel weight when qualifying.

I tried the 4C. I was all over the place with it. It is definitely tail-happy with me at the helm. The 458 Italia is a much better car, for me. I'd already put a lot of miles on it, so I knew how it drives.
I have never enjoying using Alfas in this game, but they are wonderful if you know how to race them.

tldr version:
Short wheelbase cars can't be thrown into corners.

Tried a morning Race C. Mixed grid. Quit on T2.

As soon as I saw some DR A behind me I knew what was going to happen. I should have quit before starting.

I'm at a point where I want to race but don't want to gain DR. I let people by like crazy. And I still get knocked off by people who think you have to win the race on Lap 1.

Thanks. That's a big part.

Another is, even in practice I've have a +/-1 sec/lap specifically on the entrance and exit of the Miyabi portion. My best time was lucky and I'm still unsure how to take those turns.

Lost my A+ rating to Race C yesterday. Slowly losing 100 by 100 as the day go by. Did just enough races to end the day at A. Really good racing overall. Only 1 obvious dirty driver in every race. Really clean and really fast driver backing off before the downhill esses or other tricky place. I could trust cars around me even without knowing them. In fact, I'm the one who tried to go 2 wide in the downhill esses with a A+ driver. Not a good idea but we didn't die.

The last race I did, I started 10th with 9 A+ in front and 5 A+ without a QT at the back. I cross the finish line in 15th, the first of the A driver, it's something.

The only troubles I’m having are the transition into and out of the Miyabi portion of the track. They are so awkward to navigate going in the reverse direction. I'll get the entry and exit down it with more laps. Should be some fun racing this week.
I try to go deep and turn the car in one short move and straighten it fast in line with the straight of the track

Cool. I think practice lobbies are a good idea too. I'm also tired of solo laps.

"official" practice lobbies up to the number of cars that would be on a race grid would be awesome, as alternatives to FP solo sessions. I'd like to share a track with others and open a chat during lapping sessions, and that would be cool to have a sort of open practice hosted online.

I've been surprised how fun the Alfa is to drive, after ignoring them in Gr4 and Gr3 forever, until the Daily at Suzuka, and as an option for one of the FIA events at the end of the season (maybe Laguna). I expected it to be deadly, but it's less-than, and while it's challenging, it's not as difficult to extract good speed from it as I was imagining. I see why the really good shoes on here like @Pigems preferred it before it was dialed back a bit on power.

At the moment I'm leaning towards structured practice like your thinking. Kind of like a track day with chat for sure.

I spent some much time in arcade time trial most of my muscle memory is different than online conditions and qualifying which makes me think this is a better option to get better.

I'll start thinking about some structure and schedule then we can let it evolve from there. I'm thinking an official day, perhaps Sunday which could be for the races starting next day.

During the week if someone sees me with a practice lobby open they can feel free to jump in and take some laps. It can also expand to FIA practice too once I start.

Once I get it rolling I guess I should start an official thread for discussion. Man, I'm a bit excited.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The knucklehead in front of me braked in a place where you don't expect anyone to brake.
I swerved to avoid a penalty. In doing so, I lost a bunch of positions, and got a 1.5 second wall-riding penalty.
Then I lost more positions when I served the penalty. Thanks, PD

Gotta love YouTube. Found this video clip of the 1970 Austrian GP.

I wish they kept the old pit exit.

What does Formula 1 Management have against GTPlanet?20211006_161546.jpg

Started getting a little more aggressive on the exit and managed a 17.0 and 16.5 optimum so it's a step in the right direction.

On another note I was thinking.... We have less people playing, lots of gripes about bad drivers and so on. Personally I'm practicing for GT7 and competing on a larger level and I'm sure others want to practice.

What if I did a weekly lobby of the daily race stuff on a Sunday or something? That way we can race during the week then have some good clean sessions to work on stuff for the future.

If anyone is interested send me a message so this thread stays on topic.
Ever notice the "king of the mountain" syndrome? Whether or not, people will kick and push others down just to stay up on top, not caring and will do the same to others that try to get up there with them, not realizing there is plenty room for all in the A rating.

Will do. I'm in MI. Was thinking Sunday night but I'll see how the response is. Im even up for practice lobbies during the week too.

True. I was thinking something geared more towards rookies like me and others in the same range.
Sunday night is great for me also, I work nights and never available then, sundays are great

GOnna regret saying this but I am not getting dirty drivers at SR99. One guy made a dumb mistake yesterday and cause 6 cars to go off but that's how close all were, he didn't mean it though.

I'm not usually one for revenge in a video game. But some of these guys make it difficult to be that way.

Just had a race where I tried to avoid 2 cars ahead of me getting together. They were pushing each other from one side of the track to the other. I was biding my time, hoping for an opening so I could go past them. They both wind up spinning, going off the track, then coming back on. But they happen to come back RIGHT as I'm going by them. I didn't want to get caught up in it, so I braked hard and swerved to the left. I then get rammed by the person who was behind me, knocked off the track, and get passed by them.....ruining my clean race. Luckily, they got a penalty for cutting a corner or going too wide or something (this was on DR "A"), and then proceeded to run off the track ahead of me. I caught up to them just as they got back on the track. They had enough speed to stay ahead of me. But then they ran wide at the following corner and I passed them easily. Then they served their penalty so it put them that much further behind me.

I'm usually a patient driver and wait for opportunities. And I don't try to force my way into somewhere I know the car won't fit just to gain a spot. I guess I'm too nice of a driver. I'd never make it as a REAL race car driver, lol.

Well I've just been having fun, if someone wants to play bangers I've been game. Got my SR down to one again so tried a couple of spa and got it back to 8. ONE CLEAN RACE C TOOK ME FROM SR E TO SR S , YES 8 TO 80 IN ONE GAME. Now that just really is ridiculous.

 I need to stop reading this thread. I nearly get an itch to reload the game and then, it's the same thing with people quitting and trying to stay clean and getting rammed off, etc.

That Race C seems interesting. Like to see how I'd go, but can't do it. I already feel the muscle memory of getting rammed at certain corners. Plus, my daggered eyes and setting up for the revenge punt.

Beginning player here. Starting my first online races this week, on Spa. What a track it is by the way!
Obviously I’m in the beginner lobbies, but I’m pretty pleased so far, 4 races and improved my position in all of those.
So far I’ve been ghosted quite a lot as a beginner, but soon that’ll stop, not sure how I’ll fare. So tough driving in traffic!

Absolute disaster of a Race C tonight. I start P13 (I thought I’d be higher with my time). Turn 1 I manage to navigate with no problems. I forgot to factor how much cold tires affect a car and mess up the chicane go too deep again but continue. Not a problem, I can get through this race. Nope. Punted in the hairpin after that and lose a spot. Run wide before the hairpin leading to the track transition. Accidentally hit a driver off track when I try and go inside on the big right-hand sweeper before the esses. Lose 2 more spots in the process. I misjudge an attempt to get by 2 drivers who mess up the first track transition and get into the back of one of them. I get into the back of the other one when they off track and rejoin right in front of me. Someone does a cutback pass on me in turn 1 next lap, but they hit me and slows me down. Run off track in the same spot…again. Decide to pit and not change tires to save some time and get some clean track in front of me.

Out of the pits a driver sends it where they shouldn’t have as I had the apex covered and that sends me nearly sideways, but I recover and question why I entered this race. Then the driver that hit me attempts a pass in the esses. They back out, only to use me as a barrier and that sends me towards the wall which gets me a fantastic 1.5 second barrier collision penalty! Yay! I’m beyond furious at this point and want to quit, but don’t want to lose too much DR. Serve the penalty and drop to dead last P20. Someone drops out! I’m up to P19! Some drivers pit on lap 7 and I move up to P16. Tire wear is becoming a factor and I’m sliding all over the place. I get used again as a barrier and get passed on the inside on the second track transition and sort of, kind of show my frustration and turn directly into them. Final lap I manage to get beside them and make a pass in the first big sweeping turn in Miyabi. But they get into me as retaliation, and I lose control. Deserved by me as I did it to them first. Somebody forgets to pit, and I finish P17. I turn the game off and try and process what just happened.

Sorry if this was long, but the chaos in this race from my own mistakes and others driving like maniacs made me frustrated beyond belief. Just unbelievable stuff in that race. My first races are usually rough around the edges, but never like this. Somehow, I don’t lose any SR with all the contact to me and from me. I want to run one more race here since I know what to expect, but if it’s like the one I just did, it makes me hesitant to do so. Naturally I’ll try again and see what happens.

Lol, Yeah. One thing I've noticed is I almost always catch whoever dirty passes me rather quickly. I'm patient enough to put a little pressure on them until they mess up and I pass them clean then go defensive. They tend not to like that.

I'll shoot ya a friend request soon. Thanks for the interest.

It's mainly the case of not understanding: fighting only slows you both. Players behind catch up and make it worse to progress. Even worse, when starting behind the leader and being impatient, allowing the leader a free getaway.

Seen it so many times. I'm leading at the start. If only P3 or P4 was patient, the top 4 or 5 would have harassed me the whole race.

I've been stuck behind fighters way too many times while waiting for chances and watching the gap from the lead pack grow exponentially.

One reason why I like qualifying in the top of the field, really. My defense is usually just getting in my line and being big on the track. I try not to push and just focus smooth consistant laps. The impatient guys mess up and I build a lead. If a driver is definitely faster than me I won't push the issue to defend. If he gets by me the spot is his.

I've had a few races where the top 5 were clean and racing how we should. It was some of the nicest races I've had and I think the time delta was a second or two at the end.

Urrrrrgh what a night at spa. Back on sr99 so donating DR allbnight never qualified higher than 14th of 16 and never wore a bib higher than 13. I can sorta hang with the pack but slowly lose ground.

To make matters worse, I pulled out the supra and tried to improve on my 17.8. I had the mother of all laps going, on pace for a 17.1 but foolishly decided to leave tc off through the esses. I found exiting stavelot with no tc made it easier to stay on the gas so greedily tried to leave tc off im a spot i usually toggle it on. Never got close to that time again. So annoying.
