Ah, now I kinda understand your replies a bit better, Derek, with regards to my handbrake project. Good luck with yours! ;)
Also I notice you went for s 0.7 bore cylinder. Interesting.

Those ram mount mounts/adapters look really handy. I wonder if they would attach together with the button boxes, or that it might become a bit too... thick, getting too close to the wheel.

What I did today was to see of the tiltons I had bought from you for the Clubsport pedals would fit my T500 pedals, and they did. :)

Here is the result, though they are the old version and aren't as nicely finished as your current offerings I believe. They do the job though.
Maybe I should plug up the screw holes with something, to make it nicer under my feet. I am open to suggestions if you or anyone else has any.

That's good luck that the pads fit :) Tilton Style Pads for the T500 are on the horizon, but no immediate plans.

The handbrake effort will be the answer to the emails I receive asking if I'll offer one. One can be built for sim racing use with off the shelf components. While I don't want to say too much and let the cat out of the bad prematurely, my outline of the project will be posted here along with all the links, parts and photos on how to do it.

Parts are still incoming and when I have something ready, I won't keep it to myself.

Keep me posted on the pads. Might want to go with the prettier pads eventually. Besides, having DSD on them adds a bit of flare I think. ;)
That I can't use the angled pads underneath is no big deal for me as they feel fine as they are. Actually the plastic of them started to squeak and buckle a bit under the stress of putting pressure oj them, so it has actually been the reason for me to try this.
I guess I got lucky then. So be warned buyers who wish to try the same I guess.

I will look forward to reading about your progress. I am still waiting for my CNC slave cylinder.
Then I need to get everything hooked up together, without leaks. Dunno which would be better to use, hose or piping. Though I already got some flaring tools, so practice makes perfect I guess.

Keep it going, Derek.

ps. I got the mail. Thanks! ;)

Steel hose. Use Earl's brand. They make the best. Don't consume your time bending and flaring - that's a mad pain in the butt. It's less hassle to use steel braided lines as they are factory crimped and will seal like 10,000 psi or some crazy amount. Steel lines, unless you're a pro and have the tools, are not the way to go. Steel brake lines use AN fittings and all that stuff is commonly found at any Hot Rod or Tuner shoppe. Of course, each man is free to go his own way.

The DSD Tilton Pads are "ZeroFlex" and will hold up :) The mounting holes in the ones for the V1/2 Clubsports are 2.8mm too close together, but it looks like you've got them to attach.

The handbrake I'm doing should be pretty cool. I may sell it if there's sufficient interest, though I may offer a parts kit for the installation parts I'm going to have fabbed.

Good you received the email. Back to work for me :)

We've got Goodridge over here, European equivalent I think. Was looking at some -3 JIC Goodridge 600 Carbonfibre look hoses from demon-tweeks.co.uk and some other bits. They offer all kinds of fittings and pieces with it.

Hi logiforce,

You could also check with biesheuvel autosport in nl or isaracing and sandtler in germany for braided hoses.

Thanks for the tips. I might call or mail Biesheuvel as I can't find all the bits I want on their sight, but I am sure they can order it. First will check your other suggestions though. :)

Win a DSD Black Max II G2 - DSDFTW!

Hi all,

Here's a DSD Black Max II G2. This new design is a subtle but interesting new version of the very popular DSD Black Max II. This particular one is the first pre-production unit, and, as a number of folks know, I'd like to give it out.

HPIM1687.jpg

To get your name into the mix to win, fire an email to dsdftw@derekspearedesigns.com - I will announce the winner's name on Friday, April 12th at 6pm EDT US. You must have your name in the subject line in your email.

This particular device, BTW, is the 150th prize that DSD has awarded via my various contests, sponsorships and other events. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the community and thanks for your interest in my components.

NB - the Black Max II G2 is planned for release later this year :)

GLA!

PS - I must also state that there is a small imperfection on the box shell at the point where the USB connector is located and is a small chip where the slotting machine took a slightly bigger bite than it was supposed to take. It's 99.9% perfect and would otherwise be stored...I can't have that when there's a home out there for it.

Who ended up winning this prize?

My apologies - it was Mario P from Protugal (respecting GTP's policies I am not posting his full name). There will be more contests to come :)

I am using a DSD 12 bit board with the load cell amp built in . The Z rotation is fluttering like heck in the Windows game controller screen . Is there anyway to make it stop ? I am not using a load cell yet , I am working on a pedal mod to use the load cell .

Any suggestions are appreciated !

Thank You ,
Billy

There are other bits as well, but they will be posted in time. Keep aware that folks post their projects for all to see, and the community is good for their efforts and time to compile their success, methods and means to bring their project to life.

In the case of yours truly, it's critical that every stage is free of strain or stress for all following, and since my name will be attached to it, it's vital, prudent and necessary to ensure all unknowns and bumps are satisfied before everything is outlined. To say care is needed is something I shouldn't have to say.

The goal is to be "zero-fab", meaning that the entire system can be built with off the shelf parts and simply be assembled into a fully functional, stand alone device. If my name goes on it - and this will - it will be something folks can trust. It may even turn into a component we offer directly for those who want an out-of-the-box, ready to go HB.

Some preliminary framework:

Thread types - not all threads are equal: Thread fun!

Structural fasteners use threads we all know and love. Nuts and bolts...bits and bobs...they have either Imperial or Metric machine threads. Then there are others like fasteners for wood or sheet metal, and those have some type of coarse thread on them. The threads on those fasteners are much unlike the threads found on various fittings which are used to move fluid from somewhere to somewhere else. These are loosely called (generalization) "pipe threads".

Pipe threaded fittings are designed in such a way so that as the threaded connection is made the joint making the connection becomes sealed to withstand the pressures involved fluid transmission applications. Essentially, the threaded connections are compressed or crushed together to prevent fluid leaks.

For our discussion, we will use NPT, IF and AN fittings. There are other pipe threading conventions, but the project I am undertaking uses the above standards.

NPT = National Pipe Thread

IF = Inverted Flare

AN = Army/Navy

Often, applications using auto braking parts use a combination of the thread types referenced above and need fittings which use a combination of threads to allow the system to connect together. Be assured you'll need to know the types and how to figure them out as they ARE NOT interchangeable with each other or with machine threads. Mix them up and try to make them mate and you will be in pewp and quite :(

I'll expect everyone to know there are different conventions and my posts using hydraulic components will indicate what connections are which. We'll all need to speak the same language. It's not hard, either - simple, actually.

Hey guys , i'v been looking around this forum for a few weeks now and finally signed up
after finding this thread.

I am very interested in this project !

I made a handbrake for my racing sim 6months ago using the exact same base and lever set , in mine though i removed the hydraulics and put springs in and riped apart an old joystick for the usb and circut board. i will post a pic later if you are interested although the quality of yours will be far superior.

Derek i do have a question , the joystick i use to control the HB has issues.
So with your new black maxII g2 button box does that have anywhere i could 'patch in' my HB ? ( eg: 22 buttons but 23 chanels on the controller) ?

Either way i'll end up geting one ,

Cheers
St8smn

sorry if this is messing up your thread mate , just let me know and i'll have it removed or put elsewhere

its basicly a piece of threaded rod with a few nuts and washers and a G27 style brake spring on the inside and a small spring on the outside to dampen the rebound (im looking at getting 2 G27 progressive brake springs 1 for HB 1 for the G27

The button I used is a basic 'car door button' where HB lifted closes the very basic circuit and the HB down breaks the circut

from there i'v simply soldered the 2 wires to the contacts of one of the buttons on the circuit board of the joystick I ripped apart , plug in usb and adjust in-game to suit

cheers

basherboards.com offers an interface device. All DSD components are USB. The basher device allows you to connect the DSD Pro Sequential to the Fanatec wheel - see their technical information for details, etc.

So that looks like a mounting plate for you to attach a (fairly standard) hydraulic handbrake to.
Then behind the master cylinder (with reservoir) mounting points you add a little plate that allows you to attach (from what I can make of it) a CNC slave cylinder.

If my guess is wrong feel free to correct me. :)
A very mechanical looking design with all elements exposed. At least from what I can tell from this initial drawing.

Nice progress though. 👍

Good work :gtpflag:

A few posts back I put up a photo of a handbrake. Most of the parts are in but a few are still coming. The goal of this "project" is to be a "zero-fab" HB which anyone can simply assemble into a functional, standalone USB HB...

I've let too much of the cat out, but that's the gist of it. The render is a couple of parts we'll fabricate here just to dress the project a bit and present a cleaner finish - it could even be a finished component which would be offered for those who want a turn key one.

@Cliffo - I hope it's of interest :)

Derek do you know who can print White Text on Clear Laminate? Reason i ask is that ill be buying 2 button boxes for the Fanatec Wheel Base and would like to get a series of decals made up to control the buttons etc.

Also any chance i could get Carbon skin on the CSW Panels?

Having Clear on White would look great as it wont cover up the background too much of the panel

let me know if you know who might be able to do this

Cheers

The CSW Panels are offered as shown on the DSD site here:

http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/cswpanels

Custom components or configurations are not offered.

This question is taken from the FAQ on my site:

Q - Do you offer customized components?

A - Here are the questions I ask when considering a custom request:

1 – Does the component create something new or innovative?
2 – Is the part of potential interest to the Sim Racing Community as a whole?
3 – Is the component more than a simple change to something I currently offer?

If any question is “no”, then I don’t consider it. If all three are yes, I may or may not consider something. However, more times than not, requests are not considered.

Specifically, Question #18 from the FAQ found here:

http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/faq-tos

Label Printers:

Brother PT-2430PC and Brother P-Touch PT-D200 are ones we have here. Both work exceptionally well and are the ones folks use. 3/8" tape is what fits.
