I think the fact that you can blown your engine or transmission would be nice also, but we just have to see what happens.

The final sentence is just stupid btw.
Why is that? Infineon Raceway will very likely be in GT5, so why not make use of the drag strip? I mean, with the level of detail given to the tracks, they'll have to model it anyway... And how hard can it be making the tree to function properly?

I don't know, perhaps I'm the only one who can find traces of drag racing in these screens?

I found one, on an ign forum about gt4 drag times or something like that.

:dopey:

Drag racing sounds fine. If we're referring to funny cars, I'm not sure. It wouldn't interest me much. I just want to test out cars on a drag course to settle some matchups.

Although i'm not into drag racing... i feel racing my car on a 1/4mile strip against an AI car or another player would not be hard to implement and owuld be very fun.

I think maybe 1 or 2 purpose built cars should be in the game. We should also be able to tune a car for drag racing (which i guess you can already do).

I see no reason why this shouldn't be implemented (except the pushback of release, which doesn't really bother me as i live in the UK so we won't see it until may/june time i bet anyway, if you take the older GT release dates into account.)

LOL @ That Forza video, that was pretty poor. Pro Street is by far the best Drag racing i've ever seen in a video game. The most realistic. GT4 was lame, and Forza 3's drag racing (judging by that video) is just a try hard version of Need For Speed Pro Street.

I have strong feelings GT5 will feature a drag racing thing and it will be fantastic.

I loved the drag racing in Pro street.

Infact, that was the first game i ever played which had a clutch button and where you had to shift up into 1st from neutral XD

I have to say, when i first played it i was very very confused, as i had never driven a car at the time.

While I'd be happy to have a well supported Drag Racing feature in GT5, I don't think its going to happen in the way that we all wish for.

Why is it not a single journalist has asked Kazunori whether or not drag racing will be included? I mean, now when he is in Vegas, there has to be someone there who likes drag racing at least a little bit. :indiff:

He was asked here:
http://au.ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/8...nt_092709_wmvhd.html;jsessionid=4tmc3mr85tp2q
(at 2.13)

Quote: "We can, and um, it was in previous versions of GT, so its a possibility."

However, Kaz looks away, then closes his eyes as he nods his head in answer...I get the impression from watching his body language here that he is not a big fan of drag racing..., or at least, not really concerned about putting it in the game.

<body language skills thanks to 2 seasons of Lie To Me> :-)

However, looking at the E3 trailer video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXtbXy5vO70 at 1.45 we see, as mentioned above, the 787B and the R8 doing what appears to be drag racing...I think this will be the extent it...you will be able to drag whatever cars you have in game, on a drag track, with perhaps a starter and a timer, but no drag modifications to the cars.

The Above Post:

Judging by that body language it leads me to think maybe he, a friend or relative has had an accident whilst drag racing. Maybe thats why he might not want it in the game. Either that or as you said, Just not a fan.

But either way I think we'll get something better than we had in GT4 as far as drag racing goes.

I must be missing something here.

Having a fantasy drag strip on the streets of Las Vegas on which you can't race nobody is not drag racing to me. Nor is having two drag cars but no drag strip.

Translation of his words, not made up by me.

I guess that shows how much his interest in drag racing is. Honestly I'm not surprised though, the series is about the touring on tracks around the world, his focus must just be different.

And that's a damn shame...

I still don't get it though. What can be so effin' hard about it!? Ok, forget about drag cars and burnout then, but at least let us stage up against an opponent race each other down the Infineon drag strip will ya? I mean, it's already in there for christ sake, just let as do it! I beg you Polyphony Digital Inc. and Kazunori Yamauchi, just let us drag, please?

Damn, I'm starting to get desperate for this s**t, lol.

I just would like some drag radials and maybe a prepped track so I can hook up much better. I would be happy if I can get enough power down to lift atleast one tyre. :D

I think KY needs to read this, and see where we are coming from, because if he does add drag i think it might be a little off like missing some important stuff.

There's far more to adding a new mode to a game than taking one part of the game and putting it in to it. The tree could be tricky, AI would be trickier, etc. There's a lot that goes in to games, sure they could add a Drag Racing mode in, but the notion that it'd take a few days is up there with pigs flying.

This is basically a example of what we want in drag.

This game is called Street Challenge 3d if anyone wanted to try it out.

Has manual staging, burnouts, fouls, bracket races, and h2h races.

But it's missing this.

Here you go,start a letter,collect signatures,mail it off,see what happens.

Didn't know about that, thanks.

There was a 7-sec Skyline at the Pod a couple of months ago, prefer more original stuff tbh, it blew up on about it's 3rd run.

Ok, saying it could be done in a few days was stupid perhaps. I think it shouldn't be that hard, however, for a top notch developer like PD to implement it. Programming the tree sholdn't be much harder than programming start/finish lines, and AI is not needed since they could just let us race online.

Seriously, if Infineon Raceway is included again this time around but still no drag strip, I'll go quite mad actually.

Well we do have their mailing address, so it's time to get to work.

I think it's not hard to make a drag strip, but if they do make one i hope we get traction unlike Forza 3.

If not, i guess we will have to use track editor. :/

lol and if they decide to add one more feature like this to the game, they'll do it in true PD style and just go mental with it making it as good as they possibly can with the technology they have.

Then we'll get a December 2010 Release date.

You expect sooner?
The most difficult thing, in my eyes at least, would be modelling the tires. The tires used by drag racers are nothing even similar to road race tires, and if we have to drag race with road race tires... well, I'd rather PD just put the effort somewhere else.

yeah exactly.

I've realised we don't need drag tires after all, although it would be nice to have. What's is to just let us race each other down a proper drag strip, with staging and reaction time involved.

I've figured ET Bracket would be the best way of implementing drag racing into GT5. There are a lot of free online games which covers this very well. Nitto 1320 Legends would probably be the best example. It has the christmas tree, staging procedure and a great and correct timing system. Allthough you can't steer the car it's very intense racing IMO. You really need to cut great lights in order to win races, which is what drag racing is all about in real life as well.

Meh, I could live without, but if it is implemented, then PD should make it mandatory to use Manual Transmission, and put equal cars against each other, to prove who the better man is.

:yuck:

You do know that cars that are auto tend to make better et's than cars that are manual right?

Well most of the time they do.

Just to let you know, automatic cars are very, very common in drag racing. ;)

thats because you lose 2 or 3 km/h shifting gears with a manual. whereas with an auto box, you don't lose any speed. there's no break in acceleration during gear changes.

People who runs manuals in drag racing doesn't use the clutch (not many of them anyway), so no, that's not what it's about either.

I think some people simply prefer to run sticks while others like automatics. I mean, it's a lot easier to run an automatic, and I guess it's also cheaper. Not to mention, there are a lot of automatics in the states, so why not race them?
