It would be a blast, and also give us something completly different to tune for. Be a great help when the same old thing gets a little boring.

I hope they do have drag racing mode and you can make chasis changes also you can buy a motor.I also think they should have online competitions something like the pan americans(import dragracing super bowl)

A drag racing mode sounds pretty cool, but I don't think it is on top of the priority list.

Not on any high priority list is right. I just don't want to see this GT not ever have drag racing even with lots of hints of drag racing in past GTs. It's almost like "now or never." Why not enhance the scope of racing in GT to include drag racing? Again, not of any extreme importance on the to-do list for GT5, but would be great to see included.

drag race mode would not be too much fun. you gatta be able to take corners for it to be real racing. anybody can go fast in a straight line, your only fast if you can take a corner

You have to be kididng? Drag racing isn't just about going fast in a straight line. You need to have near pinpoint reaction times, and nail each gear shift with surgical precision. Even the slightest flinch in one of these areas, and it basically means race over.

Granted I love circuit racing, but those that think drag racing is just about planting your foot, and going in a straight line have alot to learn.

Anyway yes please. I was really excited when I heard there would be drag racing in GT4, but was underwhelemed when it wasn't a proper drag strip, and could only run by yourself.

Proper drag strips, and events would be epic indeed.

Well guys i love the idea of drag racing in Gran Turismo 5, it's been ask to be included for the past few years, hopefully we get it.

I also look forward in seeing drag specific parts for the cars, i can't wait to run a fully built srt-4 or sti on the 1/4!!

Just found something intresting on classracer.com. This is a J/S Chevy II Nova with stick shift. J/S is a rather slow sub class in the Stock Eliminator class (slowest class in NHRA).

However, what's intresting is the unexperienced fella who rides along. Enjoy. 👍

yes, we really need drag racing. I'm tired of playing prostreet. a lot of my friends were considering buying xbox just for forza3, but i'll wait to see if gt5 has drag racing, i dont think they realize how many hard core drag racing fans are out there.👍

Me neither... but KY promised it for both GT2, GT3 as well as GT4 though, so I don't know what to expect. All I can do is hope they'll understand how important it is to some people (me in particular, lol).

NHRA drag racing is just as much a sport as formula racing, touring car racing and rallying.

NHRA cars and events is not that important though. What they really need to give us is a proper drag strip such as Infineon, let us race head to head (AI and online) and make the whole thing realistic.

That is...
  • Fully functional "Christmas Tree"
  • Burnout
  • Staging
  • Ability to leave early (False start, which means you're disqualified)
  • Correct timing system (Timing starts when you leave the starting line, not when the tree goes green)
... simple as that!

I though theres already drag strip in GT1, GT4? The 1000m, 400m etc, Oval Test Course and the Las Vagas strip?

I don't think thats all that much to ask,it sounds relatively simple to implement this into the game.......C'mon PD.don't let us down.

Just because you have a long straight of asphalt doesn't mean you have a drag strip, and no drag strip in the world is 1000m. They're either 1/4 mile (402,336m) or 1/8 mile (201,168m). The Las Vegas strip in GT4 is a drag strip, yes, but a fictional and not proper one I'd say.

This is an example of a proper, purpose built drag racing facility. The O'Rielly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. This is where the biggest and most prestigious drag racing event is has been held the last 48 years! The NHRA Mac Tools US Nationals.

In fact, the only things that don't sound simple are:

- Burnout.
- Staging.

Everything else looks very simple to implement. Of course, I would still not consider it real drag racing without some upgrades related to it, like tires and such. NFS: Pro Street did it alright in my opinion (as far as I remember).

NHRA Drag Racing for PS2 had this feature,

While the game was very fun but arcadish,it still had all of the above features mentioned by Strittan,So I know PD can do this as well ... hoping.

Agreed. None of those features can be that hard to implement.

The grip simulation is already in GT5P, sort of. In GT5P if you get out onto the grass and then back to the asphalt, it gets slippery. However, if you get onto the grass, back to the asphalt and do a burnout, the grip is immediately gained.

This can be improved further so that you have to warm the tires to a certain temperature to get the most grip out of them. Then give us line-lock and we're good to go! 👍

Now, staging I imagine must be almost as easy as making a finish line. One pre-stage line and one stage line in each lane. Voilà, we have a freakin drag racing mode!

Indeed.
Again,NHRA Drag Racing had the staging lines,All they have to do is give us our pro or sportsman christmas tree,Strittans features,a "real" drag race park and BINGO - we're off to the drags.

It's almost too simple really.

(I'm going to have to get back into playing this game)

i have to admit, i'm not too fussed about drag racing. But i found drag racing in need for speed (mainly pro-street) has taught me a lot about shifting at the right time, and i hope GT will be similar except without the 'good shift' and 'perfect shift' or 'bad shift' you get in those games :D

And please, no wheelies, for the love of god XD

Why not? The wheelies in Pro Street are unrealistic, yes, but if PD give us drag slicks and make the physics right, wheelies should be possible.

Check out this Super Stock Dart...

...or this Stock Eliminator Camaro

I am all for it!! Night racing would be a good addition!! And when you do the bunout before the start, its not like need for speed either where it is already in the straight line and you just nail the gas and go, you have FULL contol(steering, gas, brake) from when the screen comes up until you end your run, simple as that!! Just like NHRA Drag Racing was for ps2, except this needs to be better!!

And please, no wheelies, for the love of god XD

Wheelies are just part of the sport. You see this in the pro ranks, all the way down to the sportsman ranks,It's up to you as a driver to be able to control how extreme the wheelstands get.Throttle control, car set-up are vital.I think wheelies would add more dimension to the game,it's up to you to control it and come off the line with a good lauch.

I agree with some kind of drag racing mode, but I don't know about taking it as far as to include actual dragsters. Gran Turismo to me have always been driving to turns and hairpins. If it focuses too much on drag racing, it wouldn't seem "Gran Turismo" to me. Is Kaz, a drag racing fan himself?

What GT is to you may not be GT to others. ;)

I agree that including dragsters is taking it too far though, but I'd love to see Stock Eliminator, Super Stock, Super gas and/or even Pro Stock cars in there.

By the way, what does it matter whether or not Kazunori is a drag racing fan? The game is not only for him, it's for us as well and I think he should start to care more about what his fans wants in the game.

Just checked out the drag racing in Forza 3. It's a joke, even NFS Pro Street does it way better.

Honestly, I can't complain about that, since as far as we know, nothing about drag racing in GT5 has been mentioned yet. However, I'm positively sure that, if KY decides to include drag racing in GT5, it will have the basics done right at least.

Hopefully.

It does matter, since he is the one who makes the game. I wouldn't care about including a mode that I don't like in a game that people will buy anyways (I doubt someone won't buy the game because it doesn't have drag racing, and besides, some people that like drag racing also like NASCAR, so they will have a reason to buy the game at least).

Yeah, but what I meant so say is that, I rather have no drag racing at all than having it as in Forza 3.
