I just released a YouTube video last night about drag racing in GT5. And absolutely, I think a proper drag racing mode should be implemented. GT2 was full of failed execution, but it didn't fail in showing off some drag racing machines. Gran Turismo 4 featured a drag strip. So... why not combine the two and make it WORTH getting that Stage 3 NA or Stage 4 (and maybe Stage 5) Turbo? Top fuelers and stuff probably won't be possible, but drag racing would really enhance the broader scope of racing.

You can see my video here:

I am also working on a blog entry to my Blogspot blog which will discuss this more.

Yeah, but the Forza drag racing mode seems very... unrealistic. There is not burnout and staging sequenze and no drag racing parts.

In that aspect, though unrealistic, NFS: Pro Street seemed to cover drag racing relatively well.

Save for the IHRA Drag Racing Series, Pro Street was the only game that got it right (Even though wheel standing the whole length of the track was a little ridiculous). I'd be happy with a maybe one or two proper drag strips (not the cheesy Las Vegas one we had in GT4). We already have the infineon road course so I don't see why they can't let us race on the drag strip in the infield of it. As for dedicated drag cars, I'd love to see all the NHRA Pro Classes (Pro Stock, AA/Dragster, AA/FC) if PD Could land a licensing deal with them like they have with WRC and NASCAR. I'd also like to see a few of the Drag Cars some tuning companies have built like the HKS cars we had in GT2.

To me there is one issue that keeps popping up and that's having a handicap or class system. I see it this way.....yes it could be achieved if it's bracketed based on ET classes (10.00-10.99, 11.00-11.99, etc.) through PSN. Otherwise it becomes an exercise in futility.

The other problem that comes up is that the same car or cars will be used for particular classes, limiting the variety of cars racing in drag racing mode.

NFS:PS has raised the bar when it comes to a drag racing mode though. The clutch availability even for DS2 users, the warm-up burnout system, the fact they have Portland and Infineon which are proper strips makes it a contender. Their system is flawed (it should've been knockout heads-up, not ET based) but it's easy to raise the bar again from PD.

The drag racing in NFS Pro Street was horrible, period. Being able to make a 5 second run down the 1/4 mile in a stock appearing Camaro on street tires? No thanks. 👎

If PD is finally going for a drag racing mode, they need at least four things...
  • Burnout
  • Staging
  • Fully functional christmas tree (Sportsman/Pro)
  • Real life drag strip(s)
... then a bonus would be...
  • Drag racing car parts
  • Real life drag cars (Both current and classics)
  • NHRA rules

Now don't exaggerate, 6.66 in fastest, heavily souped up car in the game (Zonda) was a tough one to get. It was pretty decent, but of course not very much of a true simulation.

:odd: Only a 6.66?? I'm doing 6.70's in a wheelstanding Supra, best of 6.71@380km/h!! And I've seen even faster on YouTube, like mentioned they can hit 5's.

I ran mid fives in my 1st gen Camaro. I used a setup from a forum somewhere. You needed to have all parts at stage 4, setup the car, change the suspension back to stock (so it doesn't wheelie), and then you had to be in 5th gear before the tree turns green, and when it turns green you hit the throttle and at the same time you give it nitrous.

You'll end up like this:

Tried the pro tree and... Yay!

I stand corrected. I had some fun with this game (and my Zonda really was going close to the limit. At least while it was still fun to try), but those kind of exploits really ain't fun nor realistic.

And it was a lil' bit faster than 6.66 (it just came to mind ;) ) - I "xfired" ( http://screenshot.xfire.com/screenshot/natural/8887e9ee4778d8f8e049f395698807193cfae6c8.png ) 6.63, but was able to shave some .10 maybe. Never got below 6, that's for sure.

150 out of 213 have said YES to a Drag Racing Mode, and 19 are not sure, which leaves only 44 no sayers.

Well, I really hope someone at PD see this.

I bet those who voted "No" argued that it takes no skill. So far, I only saw one member say something intelligent regarding why drag racing shouldn't be included in GT: because drag racing has a special thrill to it that can't be replicated in a game, and I agree with him. However, I still would like drag racing in the game. 👍

Well, I don't think the thrill of any motorsport can be replicated perfectly in a game. If drag racing is featured and realisticly done in GT5, I'm hardly gonna do anything else, but I guess that's just me.

I find the thrill of the race to be important, especially when it will last less than 14 seconds, and it's only a straight line. There's no doubt skill will be needed, but we need a real thrill for the race, such as shaking cockpits, accurate sounds and well done drag mode. At least that's my case, but I doubt PD will do all those things for the game. :( I sure hope it is included.

I see what you mean, and I too doubt PD will do those things unfortunately.

I think lower classes such as Stock Eliminator or Super Stock could be replicated quite well, since these cars go down the track relatively smoothly. I don't think I'm alone thinking Super Stock (AKA The Big Wheelstanders) is one of the coolest classes of NHRA. Who doesn't want to pop a wheelie and check out the sky for an instant?

Now when the game is delayed. How big do you think the chance is that they at least give us a real drag strip with functional christmas tree?

I hate NHRA however i would like to have drag races between like lamborghin's and ferrari's that would be cool you know just any car in the game you can race against someone else whatever car they choose to. Or there could be certain classes like supercar, mod car,etc id like that.

Oh dear... :ouch:

Drag races don't have to be supercar vs. supercar. Think of all the grassroots drag racers here in the United States that would rather blast down the track in a Chevy Nova or a Ford Fairlane. Some others with a little more money would rather drag race a Dodge Viper. A supercar-happy drag racing model would be something a Forza fan would want.

I think a lot of us can agree on seeing the awesome HKS drag cars from GT2 return, both the 180SX and R33 GT-R drag cars. Funny cars, Top Fuel, and (obviously) pro stock bikes would not show up for GT5. Pro Stock would be great and proper for drag racing cars in GT5. I'm still pulling for a proper drag racing model to add some extra diversity to the vast array of races and race types in the Gran Turismo series.

We have Nascar, may aswell put Drag races in even if we don't have the proper drag racers like Forza.

Just a 1vs1 drag race online or practice, with any cars, and maybe even some career mode drag race events. Its not that hard to put in the game.

If they add a drag mode in GT, I can finally use the cheesy lines from "The Fast and the Furious":

"Granny shiftin....not double clutchin' like you should"

"I live my life a quarter mile at a time."

drag race mode would not be too much fun. you gatta be able to take corners for it to be real racing. anybody can go fast in a straight line, your only fast if you can take a corner

Wow you make some pretty stupid comments, along with you saying NASCAR isn't real racing becuase they only turn left. You don't need to turn at all for something to be a race. Street drag racing is awesome, shows who's car is tuned the best with the best reaction times and shifting skills. Would be awesome to do with production cars.

I'm not a drag racing fanatic, but I completely disagree with drag racing not being too much fun (Post #267). Think about trailing heading into the eighth mile, then winning on a hole shot at the line. Drag racing can be quite exciting. I grant you that I'm a road racing fan, but I still like drag racing as well. So I disagree on the notion that drag racing won't be that fun.

I read his quote in your post and I thought that is something a guy with EAsports as his screen name would say
