Just checked out the drag racing in Forza 3. It's a joke, even NFS Pro Street does it way better.

Me and my brother play this game, I think I only play that once or twice the drag race mode.. It sucks, whats the point of drag race if you can't do a burnout before to worm up the tires? I agree, it's lame.. it was lame in GT4 as well.

Yeah, but what I meant so say is that, I rather have no drag racing at all than having it as in Forza 3.

I seriously doubt you would rather stick with the Las Vegas drag strip in GT4. At least, I wouldn't. PD has to start somewhere. However, as I said, they will likely get the basics right, so you don't have anything to worry about (as long as I'm right, that is).

The biggest issue is not the lack of burnout though, but the fact the start is automated. What's the point of drag racing without the competition off the starting line? Raction time is perhaps the most important factor of drag racing...

Of course the drag racing in GT4 sucked as well, as there wasn't really a drag racing mode at all to begin with. Only that stupid drag strip on the streets of Las Vegas, which you couldn't race on or anything, but only test the vehicle's 1/4 mile time. 👎

What really bugs be about Kazunori, is that he has teased us with drag racing for the last 3 titles. Drag cars in GT2, promised drag racing for GT3, drag strip in GT4 (although a terrible example of one) but he never gave us the a ability to race two cars down the 1/4 mile, which should be among the easiest things to implement into a racing game. 👎

I'm not religious, but I actually pray that he'll finally give us the opportunity to do some real drag racing.

Hopefully he does give us this feature we have long waited for. If you look at it NFS has drag in it, forza 3 has drag, there is no way he can't add drag into Gran Turismo 5, i mean if i have to fly over there to personally tell him to add drag into gt5 i will (if i can).

On the other hand, there was an article in which he mention, they well have something we all has asked for. I think it could be drag mode, i'll have to read up on it some more.

Strittan, I read you said that NFS Pro Street does it even better than Forza 3 when it comes to Drag racing. I'm not denying you are right, but remember that that game's drag racing is basicallly... the best one I have seen so far.

Yes, it's perhaps the best in a "none drag racing only" game, but it lacks a few things and some things are done wrong. It's great that you can red light and do a burnout. However, the burnout is a joke, it lacks staging, the timing starts when the tree goes green (not when you leave the starting line as it should be), fastest time wins (not first across the finish line as in real life) but other than that it's... ok, except you can run in the low 5's with a stock looking 1st gen Camaro, and make 1/4 mile wheelies with low profile tires. 👍

EDIT: Oh, and they have 1/2 mile (800m) races, which I've never seen in the real world.

The only good thing about drag racing in Pro Street I personally think is that the Infineon drag strip is included.

Don't get me wrong though Codename L, I respect the fact you enjoy it. :)

That's what I meant, there's no point in comparing a game with NFS Pro Street in the drag racing aspect, it is likely to lose.

We've also got to remember that it was a very unrealistic game.

Would you believe me if I told you I waste time arguing with someone on YouTube about this, and he wouldn't concede defeat? :banghead:

Correction, that I enjoyed it... while it lasted (two days). The game ran awfully slow on my PS2, and whenever I was using vynils, at one point they would disappear. So I threw it like a frisbee to the wall. :D

Something for Nicksfix...

Yes, they're all Sox & Martin. Would you go a bit nuts perhaps if these were included? ;)

I would love it for those cars to be in the game(i also love the old mopars) but i really dont know, i think just taking stock cars, tubbing them out and fitting them with big slicks and monster engines, wheelie bars and that would be enough for me, unless you do drag races and eventually win those sox and martin cars, that would be nice, though!

Thanks Strittan,awesome stuff.👍

Here's some more Sox and Martin back at you :

Even if none of the infamous Sox and Martin cars make it to the game, remember,we still have a livery editor to make our own.

Why is it not a single journalist has asked Kazunori whether or not drag racing will be included? I mean, now when he is in Vegas, there has to be someone there who likes drag racing at least a little bit. :indiff:

I´d would love to see Drag racing in GT5! If they only implement the features that Strittan called upon with the staging, correct timing etc...
Just imaging a race between some old gassers and some new Sport Compacts (4 cyl, turbo, EU or Japanese late models), wich will win? Ol´school or high tech?
Bracket racing is also a cool idea, not the quickest but the most consistent, so you dont have to put a fortune into a car to be a winner, it´s down to the driver.
Well, thats my thoughts!

OT: It´s strange to me that there never been a proper drag racing game that lived up to their name. Those i´ve tried (although never the NHRA game on PS2, couldn´t find it in Sweden) have almost always been lacking in some way, poor graphics, poor physics or overall just 'crappy' and budget-like. I mean, game design wise, it´s two cars, a straight, bleach box and breaking area. Physics are a bit diffrent maybe from regular racing games with the track bite and the clutch timimings and that, but it wouldn´t be impossible the create.

First post, don´t torch me pls! ;)

Last weekend (October 29 - November 1) there was a big NHRA event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway drag strip.

What if Kazunori flew to Vegas a few days before the SEMA show started, and experienced this NHRA event? Let's keep our fingers crossed... :nervous:

Guys, can we all get real. Drag Racing isn't that big and is very unlikely to properly feature in a game like GT5.

That's what I thought about NASCAR as well. Although, yes, it's a lot bigger than drag racing.

LOL @ That Forza video, that was pretty poor. Pro Street is by far the best Drag racing i've ever seen in a video game. The most realistic. GT4 was lame, and Forza 3's drag racing (judging by that video) is just a try hard version of Need For Speed Pro Street.

I have strong feelings GT5 will feature a drag racing thing and it will be fantastic.

Drag racing not that big? Think about it like this- at least this would offer more diverse racing modes. There's actual skill in drag racing. I would have no problem with drag racing being featured in GT5. Not at all. It just means I can go get that Stage 3 NA or Stage 4 Turbo (maybe Stage 5) and make some ten second (or lower) passes down the block.

As for if Kazunori went to the Vegas drag strip... pretty unlikely. There may be a chance, but it would be interesting.

I love it, and I hope it's in GT5 as well.

More goodies for you Nicksfix (and any other Mopar fan for that matter).

The Mopar Hemi Challenge is a 3 event series dedicated to the SS/AH class. SS/AH is the fastest class in the Super Stock category. The cars raced in this class are '68 Darts and Barracudas with 426 Hemi engines. The current national record is 8.33 at 157.96 mph, set by Melvin Daniels in a Dodge Dart.

These cars are in my opinion not only the fastest in Super Stock, but also the most beautiful in all of NHRA. Many (if not all) of 'em are show quality.

And no... I'm not expecting PD to include any of these cars. If they included one of them, however, I would freakin s**t my pants.

Awesome Strittan 👍

I have been to these Hemi Shootouts before, they are nothing short of spectacular. If any Mopar enthusist gets a chance, you need to attend one of these events.

And for those who say drag racing is boring, have a look at this,it can be anything but boring, and it can be dangerous.

Ok, here's a complete list of things that would IMO make a proper drag racing mode.

  • Infineon Raceway Drag Strip
  • Fully functional 3 amber christmas tree
  • Burnout procedure
  • Staging procedure
  • Goodyear tires (rear slicks and front runners)
  • Weld Racing wheels
  • Jegster wheelie bars
  • Line lock
  • Harwood hood scoops

But then again it would be enough with only...

  • Infineon Raceway Drag Strip
  • Fully functional 3 amber christmas tree
  • Staging procedure

... and these three things PD could threw together in a couple of days if they wanted.

I just don't think (unfortunately) there is the demand for a feature of it in the game. I'd love it, but then I'd want a highly detailed tuning and customisation part of the game as well.

The final sentence is just stupid btw.

Everybody quit saying drag is not for GT5! They had the drag strip in GT4! Forza 3 has drag racing, and it is similar to circuit racing like the GT series, but imagine if drag in GT5 had the staging and all of that, it would blow Forza 3 away!
