I don’t know if this has been talked about, but with the ability to create your own track, I don’t think it would be impossible to create a drag strip.
Yes, it's been talked about many times, and each time I've said that it's not the same thing.

For the 500th time, if Infineon Raceway is included, what stops PD from letting us use it's drag strip? I seriously have no idea why they left it out in GT4, so I'm really hoping for it in GT5.

Drag tuning is as interesting to me as race tuning is. Some kind of drag racing would go down a treat with me.

Not sure why you think a 1/4 mile piece of tarmac is different to a drag strip though Strittan. For the purposes of competing in a video game they serve the same purpose.

Somewhat true, but having a real drag strip adds to the realism and atmosphere in my opinion, plus you'd have a christmas tree, which the sport is more or less based around.

Hi, just wanted to note that the inclusion of several drag strips in GT5 could be possible, at least in theory:

  • Bandimere Speedway
  • Infineon Raceway (Drag Strip)
  • Hockenheim (Drag Strip)
  • Las Vegas Drag Strip
  • Test Course (Main Straight)
  • Top Gear Test Track (Runway)
Of them, though, only the first three would be "official" drag strips (others could have temporary or made up christmas trees).
I don't know if there are more (in real race tracks included or possibly included in GT5) that I'm not aware of.

Yes, would be awesome to have at least one of the first three. I'm getting more and more doubtful for each day that passes though. :nervous:

Still, if Infineon Raceway turns out to be included, I see no reason why they should leave the drag strip out. They have to model it to it's full glory anyway since the road course surrounds it and on the long version you are actually driving on the shut down area of the strip.

See here, where the red part is the 1/4 mile dragstrip and the blue part is the so called shut down area where the cars come to a stop:

I think GT5 is a seriously step back in the move for current racing games. The extreme lack of tracks isn't that bad, but seriously, over 1000 cars, over 800 which are poorly modeled.. It seems like they just rushed the game entirely, despite the long developement cycle. Not even a test track? I mean the TGTT is perfect, but the TT was just an oval. No drag strips? Arghh. I really hope they do drag racing in GT6 right. I'm not going to count on it though

quite gutted to read there in no drag strip . There are no good Drag Racing sims in the market . 👎 While I will enjoy the game seems short sighted to not even have the oval ring for high speed runs , 1000m runs , Oh well ...

Lets hope this track editor will have some good features .....

standard drag is the easiest thing to implement in a game. I dont kno why they ddint include it. Forza 3 does it easily and well.

Maybe PD didn't include the testing courses, 400m, 1000m, and those other little courses/areas that GT4 had, in the track list as they are not true tracks as such, I bloody hope that's the case anyway!

one of the most exciting parts of a drag race is trying to get a good launch without jumping the start :P I haven't heard anything official confirming drag racing :( none of the people with leaked/illegal copies of gt5 have mentioned drag racing :(

Sad indeed to not have drag racing implemented yet. Especially when Bandimere Speedway was hinted, and why did they scrap Infineon? :dunce:

Forza 3 does it horribly bad, but otherwise I agree.

There might be some kind of predefined drag-ish race in the Top Gear event, didn't they even show a car & plane going down the runway in one trailer? Maybe I imagined that.

Well we have 16 player online rooms so if their is no drag strips I say we all meet up on the Wangon and race there we can have people call the race, and other cars at the finish line and other parked on the side waiting to race. It would be nice to see what your car would run in the 1/4 mile and etc though.

Yes Forza 3 fails miserably at drag racing. I do not know why they bothered to include it at all if that was the best they could do. I'm not much for drag racing nor am I much for any of the more recent NFS games but when it comes to drag racing NFS Pro-Street is 10x better than Forza 3.

a stock E92 M3 whit stg3 tires , wheelies, come on... NFS fails Big time!

So, a drag with a tree and proper strip is most likely not going to happen any time soon. A Top Gear style drag race from a light or flag over flat ground is a full possibility. I have no problem with the latter. A mile or two run would be nice.

Yea, but some of this might be in, who knows. The full fox version of the game (retail) is hitting reviewers and such.

It's anyone's guess what features were added in between. :dunce:

I saw pictures about 200m sprint and brake, i saw something about 400m but it was all in france, Mod deleted all pics so can't give you link, but hope is still alive for Top gear Drag strip!

That's awesome, I love SSR7 track for online drag racing. Are there any serious players on here that would like to set up like a drag racing competition? Preferably g25/g27 users. Must be racing in MT using the gearbox and clutch or else it's kind of pointless.

Does the top gear test track have an nice wide and long strip for this as well? I remember when doing my license tests that it did if i recall correctly.

For those who have a g25/g27 wheel and wish to drag online, put your name in this thread so we can all get together and have some drag races online. :)
