Because we dont even have a full track or car list yet. This is still a tight lipped thing. Trust me ive seen every GT launch.

the 400m is drag racing just like the las vegas strip was. Both go off a 3 count and work the same. Your definition of Drag Racing isnt fact. A 1/4 Mile is 400m. Thats how it was in all previous GT games.

Thats like saying Going off a spotter or a 3 honk is not drag racing because there is no tree.

Drag Racing be definition: Drag racing is a competition in which vehicles compete to be the first to cross a set finish line, usually from a standing start, and in a straight line.
I know a 1/4 mile is 400m...............

I have played all previous games so I know how it was...............

Reaction time is an important factor in order to make drag racing realistic and enjoyable. Going in a straight line with no competitor beside you, just as in the previous games, is lame and not racing really. It's just a boring test of how fast your car does the 1/4 mile.

Drag racing as an organized motorsport is what I am talking about. According to you we've has drag racing in all GT games, but you're wrong.

According to the official definition we have. But according to your way of think we havent. Im not arguing with you anymore as its pointless at this point.

No, according to what you call "the official" definition we haven't either. It says it's a "COMPETITION in which vehicles COMPETE to be the FIRST TO CROSS A SET FINISH LINE".

We haven't had this in any of the previous games as far as I know.

LOLUMAD?

Competing against the clock.......?

If you read more carefully you'll see that's not what the definition says, not even close. Drag racing is competition between two vehicles down a 1/8 or 1/4 mile track, period. First across the finish line is the winner, simple as that.

Racing against the clock is called qualifying if you like.

Why did you even post that definition if it has nothing with your point to do?

Sorry if I sound harsh. I'm just trying to explain. :)

So are time trials not racing? You're competing against yourself
In my opinion, no, it's not racing. It's a way to learn and improve.

Enough about this anyway. If drag racing will make it, we'll know by November 3rd. If not, too bad.

I just tweeted to Kaz if GT5 will have drag racing. Lets hope he at least responds.

I also tweeted him in Japanese using google translate. Lets hope google got it right :)

Edit:I guess Kaz is not going to respond to my tweet I tweeted him in English and Japanese about drag racing and he has made two tweets since mine and neither one is directed to me so I guess he doesn't want to say if the game has this or not.

Proper drag racing I doubt. The makeshift drag racing a la 1/4 straight from track creator, most likely.

I hope I didn't cause the delay tweeting him

Now when the game is delayed again, I really hope they've included it. I still hope the Bandimere Speedway will make it, which is seen in the following video.

this would be awesome.. but its not going to happen because i say no options for slicks in the tire menu.. well drag slicks at least

Why? That's completely irrelevant in racing...

Yes it is, but if drag racing is in, I sure hope that we get 60ft times, 330ft times, and 660ft times along with the 1320ft times, so that we know where we need to make our improvements to get a better time.

Why tho? I thought drag racing was even shown in a trailer, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't of Just "taken it out"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2uQ2ayvvWY @ 1:42 shows a 787b drag racing. at least thats what it looks like to me, and I think we've seen what looks to be a runway in an old photo somewhere in here I can dig that up too

There was another one, I've been digging. but anyways, I thought it's even been confirmed? I could be wrong tho.

Even tho that picture is from photomode. the video shows people racing on it. So... I dunno who knows. I hope its in there, We were suppose to get one since GT2, we were also suppose to get online too and that finally happened in GT5P, Albeit it took a while. but it got there.. you never know.... Since its something that kaz has wanted to Implement since GT2, it may be in there. That's just my guess.

Edit : Also, since we're supposedly getting license tests, most of those old tests had 0-400 and 0-1000, and braking/slalom etc, when you put in the fact that kaz has wanted a drag strip since GT2, and we'll have license tests, I dunno, part of me that wants to believe we'll be getting one, and is pretty convinced, It's all speculation tho.

Yes of course. That's something completely different. 👍

EDIT: Another thing. It seems Hockenheim will be included, so maybe the drag strip will be available as well, since it's connected to the GP circuit.

Mannn I can't help but to think how fun a good drag racing mode would be. I have raced so many of my friends in GT4 on the test track and it simply wasn't good enough, despite how fun even that was.

Just a small detailed list of the times, and even just a drag strip setup for 2 player would pretty much make it for me..

Hehe, same here. Would be too good to miss, so I hope PD finally realize it's wanted badly by many.

And imagine if eliminations were done realisticly online, using a ladder system.

I would think if they can do point to point rally then they can implement drag racing.

One would also think that everytime Kaz said that drag racing would be in the game that by some small chance it would be in. Now he isn't even stating that he would want it in.

I think the big issue with the whole discipline is how you stop it from becoming a situation where you make some money buy a 4WD car (most likely a Skyline GT-R) and mod it out to the max. Without proper limiting factors or at the very list extensive drag modding for RWD or FWD cars it would basically turn into a Tic Tac Toe event where the said 4WD/AWD car wins.

What kinda kills it though is the wait in between races. If I race, it'll be quick, but then I've got to wait for everyone else to take their turn, and what to do while I'm waiting? Watch different views of each car? And in between those racing the loading screens for the next racer? Or will it just be continuous ?? It would be awesome to see them take it to this extent but it sounds like a more in depth racing game other than GT. Tire pressures, tire sizes, drag classes, etc. The physics would have to be perfect to prevent a scoreboard car from prevailing, and not to mention even though they might be great, I've always found there is no independent movement of the car, rather the track environment moves around the car preventing gear to gear 'chirps'

But even with a proper GT physics and looks, staging, tire heating, engine/air temp statistics, slicks, and class limitations it could hold very fun between friends and online

With the new information in one of the other threads I think it was gear boxes and brakes being damaged. AWD cars can get stuff broken very easily. If I'm not mistaken I thought that I saw on TV they were talking about the GT-R if you take the traction control off you can void your warranty. Because you could brake something.

Nissan made an amazing car, almost perfect, but the transmission would break if you used launch control too many times (despite being on a race track) and a transmission is not under warranty. Awesome car, with the transmission being the weakest link.

Yeah, this is quite worrying, or he simply want to surprise us (which I highly doubt though).

I find it quite odd that KY has talked about drag racing for every title since GT2, yet he has not implemented it in a game yet, and now he has suddenly included NASCAR and karting, which we've heard nothing about in the past.

I don’t know if this has been talked about, but with the ability to create your own track, I don’t think it would be impossible to create a drag strip.

We know it doesn’t have to be a circuit.

We know we can choose the number of turns.

We know we can choose the length.

Seems to me that it would be very easy to create a drag strip…

It won’t be a perfect drag simulation as far as the ability to red light, reaction times, etc., but if we can create the track (which I’m guessing we should be able to) and have the ability to chose the number of cars on the track at the same time and they type of start (rolling vs. standing)… we should be able to see some good tuning battles on who can dominate the 1/4, 1/8, mile, etc.
