Yeah, it would ge difficult, but fun. Same with the engine swap idea.
yeah, but this is maybe just me but I want ready Pro Stock cars and a Pro Stock event in GT5. that would be more sort of complete i think. the event can be called Polyphony Pro Stocker's or something. and because Infineon allready is in GT4 they can add the Infineon dragstrip to GT5 and the Pro Stock event can take place there...

anyway. this is the forces i talked about:

and dont say you cant imagine the forces. cause when im driving the Shelbo Cobra on a straight in GT4 i can really imagine how wild that car is...

Well, if you like insane speeds, go to the test track and try out some of the settings found in my sig.

I tried the Chevelle, and man, it´s very hard to get all that power down! A tad over 11 secs on Las Vegas. Not bad, but with better starting grip, it could easily drop two secs!

As long as they let me race a friend on a drag strip - both of us with cars from our Gran Turismo mode saves - then i'm happy.

My 10 second Ford Lightning is just itching for a challenge. :P

I like pro stock, but top fuel is just insane. Talk about fast.

@Team666: Did you have racing tires super-soft on it?
Yup, but I don´t belive in TCS for dragracing, so wheelspin is somewhat of a problem, but I found that starting on 4th gear and blasting N2O all the way made the car less proned on spinning.

well, i think its no point dragracing if its not a complete mode with burnout and the whole package...

yeah, PD is pretty stupid if you ask me... a car with wide slick tires without TCS doesn't spin irl, but in GT hell yeah :( it's as unrealistic as it can be... they have to THINK! PD have to think: what happens in real life?

EDIT: was thinking of some classic Pro Stock cars. new ones as well of course, but here are some old classics that would be cool to have in GT5:

Actually, all these problems is because there is no clutch. With a clutch, a driver can get his car accelerating much faster and more controlled, than the way GT4 is. Sure, throttlecontrol and all, but that just don´t cut it for real!

thats not it. the grip is not that bad irl, it's too unrealistic. but clutch would be amazing, thats another great thing for a dragrace mode. cause then you have to setup the clutch right compared to the grip/conditions :D

SPot on! Thats exactly why a clutch is needed! Since you cannot warm your tyres in GT4, a cluch would be handy to come to terms with the lesser griplevels. And same for GT5, as I seriosly doubt dragracing will be a big implement.

In what other motorsport they do burnouts before racing?

back to the clutch. in dragracing the clutch is released fast (just dropped) if you know what i mean, but yeah the cluth is needed to do burnouts. if they make a complete dragrace mode they should add linelock that makes only the front wheels are locked. so when driving a pro stock car, the linelock button can be L1 for example.

what i hate the most with gt4 (and earlier GT games as well) is ASM and TCS on cars that doesn't have it irl... PD why??? it should just be on cars that have it irl.

hopefully we'll be able to drag against other cars for money or pink slips....
that would be a good idea pd 💡
instead of just draging against your own time

Even if they didn't have drag cars and you used your own done up street car to race in power restricted categories or something, maybe engine restricted or drive type restricted.

Some quality ideas people have been put across, however my knowledge of "classes" are limited, i only goto 1/4mile tracks to watch people drive modified street cars rather than official drag/rocket cars etc etc. Also in the UK it isnt as popular as the states!

The clutch is essential if drag racing is to work, mainly for the launch, realistic gear changes in my opinion.

I like the idea of putting too much heat into the tyres and causing "problems". Also ive noticed where we go, Santa Pod, after it has been sprayed with "the sticky stuff" cars such as Sierra Cosworths usually blow a diff! (typical Ford - found on roadside dead etc etc!). Over Zealous launches on badly set up/poorly maintained cars could lead to mechanical failure, as proposed already! (like someone else posted, i want damage and parts to fail - turbos go pop, pistons melt like chocolate etc!).

The idea of Pink slips and racing either 2 player or online is also essential in my opinion! It is boring racing urself, so having someone to compete against (person or comp) and racing for money/slips or a standard prize money competition

I want PD to make a complete drag race mode, but with only one class though so it wouldn't be too complicated/big. but burnout, stage in and take off is a must! ;)

only american v8 muscle cars should be able to race the championship. real drag race mods such as scoops, dragtires with american racing rims and such ;) or maybe just buy complete IRL drag cars..

what do you guys think?

No I wouldn't go that far. You have got to have all of the different nationalities available to race. Think about it. That way you could have your import vs. domestic battle. And on the idea of pro stock I don't think that would be the best idea. At least I don't think it should be the only class. Mainly because, this game revolves around the stock cars racing and being modified. I think some sort of power/weight class would be a little more reasonable. There are going to be the guys who want to race their Civics and their are going to be people who want to race muscle cars. With a power/weight class you could even out the differing cars. You know set a minimum weight with a maximum power to keep the competition close. Well that's my two cents.

okay, understand.. and actually agree with you after all! the best thing would be ET Bracket! that allows you to use any car in the game :) but i still think there should be drag race mods for the american muscles and other cars as well!

Would be great with a drag racing performance shop (Jegs would be cool) that includes:
Drag tyres/wheels (from Mickey Thompson, Hoosier, Good Year, Center Line, Weld Racing and such)
Drag hood scoops (from Harwood)
Visible rollcages/subframes
Drag performance parts such as transmission, engine kits, radiators, suspension etc (from Holley, Moroso, Edelbrock,TCI and more)

Well this is just an opinion but, I really am not a fan of bracket racing. I would much rather have heads-up racing. It's just more exciting to actually be faster. I'm definitely on board for the drag racing parts. I hope though, that it would be more of a pick and choose customization. Not a drag modification and your whole car is completely different. Kinda like the race modifications were. I want to pick my body parts, to make a car that is unique and different. Gotta have the paint shop as well.

Why not really? They allready have dirt and ice tyres, so why not dragtyres? The other stuff is dubious at best, and I don´t think PD will include it.

I'm sure they probably would have drag tires if drag racing was included. The other things like different transmissions, yeah are probably just wishful thinking. Body work would be nice, but that's probably wishful thinking as well.

EDIT 2: forgot to say something... I was at a dragracing event today (just qualifying, races tomorrow) anyway, i was checking out some stuff that would be cool for details in GT5... first how the plastic windows shakes (on a powerful V8 car) when the cars goes on idling (then they have to add plastic/lexan windows into the game to). second is how the rear tires became wrinkled in the start... like on the image here:

Tyre distortion would be an interesting effect to model, as would torque steer and chassis twist...

Nah, there are some awesome non-'american v8 muscle' drag cars out there. Do a google search on "Queen Street BMW" and see what you come up with. Here's a hint. It don't have a BMW motor in it!

Yeah! thats what i meant ;)

another realistic thing would be if the car don't goes 100% straight, if you watch dragracing you can see that they dont go that straight! and its all about driving in the best grip (where you just made the burnout) ;)

Imagine having a Logitech G25, Gran Turismo 5, take a Pro Street moded Camaro '69 (around 600-700hp) out to a IRL drag strip, press the linelock button and do the burnout, reverse into the rubber marks you just did for ultimate grip, stage in, and at green light you give full throttle and the chassi twists (as in the picture a few posts above) and the raw V8 with a 3 gear automatic drag racing transmission just sounds like music! you came over the finish line in 8.56 seconds! ;) :scared:

Drag racing would be a nice feature of GTHD, BUT...even in one event of a drag union...lets say pro street...there are so many variables to concider...so many that many gaming companies have failed to create realistic gameplay in such games..it however would be quite satisfying to see such events in GTHD, i would like to see weiand, jegs, bolle, morganholte, eagle performance, mopar performance, etc.etc. all those tuning companies knocked up on a dragstrip...hell yes...BUT there is alot of tweeking in a drag vehicle...lol they definately are hybrids compared to normal race cars...another feature that would b nice to see...Widow Makers...4WD car sized go carts with 900bhp+...auqaplaning...hillclimbs...rockclimbs...after all since GT started it near covered all aspects of motorvehicles....but yes it would be fun

Probably it would be best with only Super Stock cause you dont have to modify the car too much.. allmost only the engine, transmission, rear end and suspension you have to modify.. and of course a rollcage might be good to make the chassis better. and i really hope they make realistic transmission. because in superstock they often use 3 speed automatic transmissions, so in game the car should really sound and act like an automatic. linelock is a must as well ;)

EDIT: and if Super Stock, you should only be able to use american cars that has V8 from factory!

lol, just got another small idea.. you know the start sound in gt? "beep, beep, beep, BEEP!" and because there are three small "beeps" before the start "BEEP" and there are three yellow lights before the green light in drag racing, it fits perfectly. this will make the drag racing mode feel like Gran Turismo ;)

No, even the Sportsman trees are much faster than the beeps in Gran Turismo. and Pro trees? You get one super-quick flash of all three lights. and then you go.

yeah, in real life.. but in GT5 it doesn't have to be THAT realistic.. but manual burn out, stage in and take off is a must!

I would love PD so much that it wouldn't be describeble in words, if they added:

1. NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series
2. NHRA Sportsman Series

Would be so awesome if they include drag racing license as well! Sportsman license (for the Sportsman Series) and Pro license (for the Powerade Series). The test should be a complete
run at the strip (burnout, stage in included). This would work perfectly as two different licenses since there are two ways the "Christmas Tree" is used, one sportsman way and one pro way.

"With the Sportsman Tree the three ambers march down in a .5 second sequence with the green illuminating .5 seconds after the third amber light. The goal is to "cut" a perfect .5 second light by anticipating the green. Anything under .5 seconds is a red light."

"With the Pro Tree the three ambers illuminate at the same instant with the green illuminating .4 seconds later. The goal is to "cut" a perfect .4 second light by anticipating the green. Anything under .4 seconds is a red light."

then to clear the license you have to get:
Bronze: 0.9 seconds in reaction time.
Silver: 0.6 seconds in reaction time.
Gold: 0.4 seconds in reaction time.

Try the different trees in these simulators! :)

Pro Tree: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/nhraxtreepro.html

Think about it ;)
