I'm okay with Pro Stock cars. Not sure about Top Fuelers or Funny Cars
You're probably right.

I must say i love Super Stock though, because of the big amount of power they can get out of almost stock engines. That pink Camaro of Iacono for example has a 350 with 600+ horses, and they do beautiful wheelstands! Love Pro Stock as well..

And of course PD should include the HKS Skyline and 180sx from GT2!

Automatic's handel big BHP better.

Wrong again.

Professional Drag Cars run auto's for the sake of consistency. They can put a stall converter to wherever they need for the perfect, and it will never miss a shift. That's why.

A automatic does handel torque better than a MT, and some drag cars use 4MT.

It all depends on your transmission. Yes, some cars use manuals for dragging, but once you get to Top Fuel and Funny Cars, it's all sequential autoboxes

Sequential's have been used 90% of race classes, since the late 80's. I really can't think of a competition that still uses regular MT's

NASCAR. There's one. The major guys get more expensive stuff, but you're right on this one.

I did a little research online about the two HKS drag cars. Here are my findings in this lookback:

John's Notebook: The Two HKS Drag Cars from GT2

The HKS Drag Cars from GT2
Here's a link from supercars.net on the HKS Drag Nissan 180SX: http://www.supercars.net/garages/PeP/18v2.html

The HKS Drag 180SX from 2000 is powered by a twin-turbo Inline-6 that has about 1100 horsepower and 759 lb. ft of torque. The supercars.net people thought it on their site since it went from 0-60 in 1.2 seconds, and 0-100 in 2.54 seconds. This car can run in the high sevens with 7.72 second passes down the 1/4 mile. I think the top speed in GT2 was about 206 mph for this car.

In addition to the 180SX, the R33 Skyline was retired just last year. Noticed that the R33 Skyline is 4WD in GT2? Well, it's 4WD in real life as well. HKS' American website has glorified the R33 Skyline more than the 180SX. Something I remembered from watching the Audis race in the Speed World Challenge GT series (back in the Michael Galatti days of fame) was that you get better launches and better traction with 4WD. The 180SX was capable of 7.72-second passes. This Skyline's could make 7.671-second passes, making the guy (or girl) in the other lane looking silly and embarassed.

Visit this link for more details on the R33 Skyline: < http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/multimedia/21651-hks-r33-gt-r-drag-car.html > and this one for more about its retirement: < http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/31/hks-r33-skyline-drag-gt-r-heads-to-retirement/ >.

1000+ hp on an Inline-6. Seven-second passes. No wonder these cars were awesome and featured in GT2. Sure you'd love to maybe see these return.

The retirement of the HKS R33 was actually because of politics to do with racing Reece Mcgregor's Heat Treatment R32 which now holds the record. HKS rebuilt the R33 (which had been sitting dormant) and organised a meet in NZ to take them on but due to petty disagreements with HKS dealers in NZ, HKS Japan had enough and retired the R33 stating the chassis was fatiqued.

i think they should also make it more realistic by as the car takes off from the line that the car can do wheelies and break traction at speed and make when you finish you have to open the chutes and if they dont the go in the sand

The Suzuki Pikes Peak was able to do wheelies in GT3.

I'd rather them focus on getting cool and unique cars to race in rather than cars that can only drive straight. Mode, yes, Drag-only cars, no. (could still tune cars for drag mode)

Since they inluded the Ford T, Jay Lenos Tank car, Nike Concept (and much more useless crap) in GT4 I think they could throw some drag cars into GT5.. Disagree?

Wonder what the story is behind the GT logo on Dave Wilson's top fuel dragster (on the scoop)

Also has a Playstation 3 sticker beneath the exhaust!

No, you'll find Top Fuel and Funny Car don't have a gear box, and they dont shift gears! Its all handled by a multi stage clutch that locks up at a predetermined load. BTW certain gearboxs handle certain power, so an auto isnt nessasarilly able to handle more power (especially stock) than a manual.

Drag racing would be cool. How bold do you want to go ?

How about an option where if you lose the race , you lose your ride ? The losers car can be transferred to the winners garage .

lol, pink slips means street racing wich then means Need For Speed so no thanks.. :dunce:

I want pure drag racing as in the NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series!

^
Your right , I forgot about that in one of those NFS games.
I retract my statement about racing for pinks.
NHRA style with a pro tree 👍

Page 35 of Gran Turismo 2's Reference Manual talks about drag racing. You don't have a proper drag strip unless you count the 0-400m courst at Test Course. Gran Turismo 4 has the first-ever drag zone. Unfortunately, no drag racing. I hope GT5 is a step in the right direction for finally having drag racing instead of not making it competitive and interesting. Some people would say that Gran Turismo shouldn't have drag racing. Well, explain rally racing in GT2. Explain F1 cars in GT3 and GT4. Explain the tuner cars in GT4 as well as the LMPs. Explain drifting in GTHD and GT5P. Gran Turismo has basically gone from a series involving competitive road racing to encompassing as many aspects of racing as possible with as many types of cars as possible.

I speak with passion on things I know can be accomplished. So rather than a sound off, here is a passionate editorial I'd like to post regarding seeing drag racing in GT5.

John-itorial: Passionate Defense of Drag Racing in GT5

As you are reading this post, please note that I am not a drag racing professional. I'm likely one to red light or not make effective shifts down the track. I'm speaking passionately for PD to include proper drag racing for the first time in series history. I know what you're thinking. The 0-400m runs at Test Course aren't exactly for pure drag racing. Gran Turismo 2 had two purpose-built drag cars (both Nissans). Gran Turismo 4 had "The Strip" on the streets of Las Vegas, but mostly as a vehicle testing facility. So why be passionate about this? Allow me to explain.

Drag racing has been a concept constantly expressed, but never actually implemented. Nothing of making burnouts, nothing of pre-staging, nothing of cutting a good light, nothing of winning on a holeshot... this has been that feature that has never been given life. It actually saddens me because I never really feel if I'll get the opportunity to actually take part in and enjoy drag racing. First GT-type game I've played that has a drag racing feature was "Sega GT" that I played on the PC. You've had hints of drag racing long ago, but never fully offered drag racing in a final build of a GT game. I once read of some kind of glitch or cheat in which you could race a drag strip at Laguna Seca. However, I'm talking about a proper drag strip that you don't have to cheat to get. I still believe in hope and prosperity. I don't force or demand anything from a game company and a franchise game series. All I'm saying is that this game needs to actually have drag racing to boost the number of racing types as well as finally offer a style of racing that's been mentioned yet never executed.

GT1? No drag racing. GT2? Drag racing cars, but no drag racing. GT3? No drag racing. GT4? A drag racing track, but no competitive drag racing. It's been ten years since GT finally puts in British race courses. Will we see competitive drag racing in series history? Or will we have to wait until GT6? I say PD needs to find a way to have drag racing in GT as well as have various competitions for various types of cars. Will it happen? Will we finally put drag racing to the test in all of the bells and whistles thereforth? Dream it... create it. Open a new chapter of GT history by including drag racing.

And that was my passionate expression for drag racing. As far as NFS-style competition, you can always have proper drag racing with the tuner cars (as well as some of your own beasts). No need for pink slips unless you're looking for a competitive online package.

Some drag strips I want would be Indianapolis, Pamona and Gainsville.

Oh and since GT4 contain Infineon Raceway I think that drag strip would be obvious as well. IF(!) we finally get the god damn drag racing mode that is...

I got an idea for online drag racing. Lets say they include the whole kit. Burnout, staging, fully functional tree and so on. If you're online and you have done a burnout and you are in stage, but the other competitor hasn't done anything. Then he/she should have 10 seconds (for example) to stage, and if he/she doesn't he/she gets fouled. Otherwise you could be standing in stage for hours or a whole day maybe..
