Wonder what the story is behind the GT logo on Dave Wilson's top fuel dragster (on the scoop)

Also has a Playstation 3 sticker beneath the exhaust!

Hi all, new here so go easy.

Not being pedantic but Dave's car is Top Methanol, not Top Fuel. He has a long standing relationship with Sony sponsorship so I wouldn't read too much into it, in fact he had lots of GT stickers on his car during the GT4 release period, as well as a Sony promotion tent with him at some meetings.

As for the drag racing in GT5, HELL YES, but I would say that as I race in the UK national drag racing champs. Trouble is there would be so much involved to make it realistic I can't see it happening. For a start the technology and equipment used is just so different to any other motor sport. Lock up multi stage clutches, Lenco planetary transmissions and throttle stops are a few that spring to mind. Then tuning is taken to the Nth degree, with weather being a major factor. To make it realistic you would need a very good dynamic weather system, with barometric pressure, humidity, corrected altitude all taken into account.

Still after saying that I don't see why we cant have a few real world drag strips included, with a proper tree and staging system. You could also throw drag slicks into the tuning menu as well as properly implemented nitrous oxide injection. Could be great fun having some online duels.

Just let us drag race the normal cars featured in GT and I'll be happy. I remember screenshots of GT4 with 2 muscle cars lined up at the dragstrip. Is it really THAT hard for them to implement a straight line track and an AI car that drives straight at full throttle? I mean seriously....

They should have knockout stages.

I would like to see drag racing where you build your own car, pick a skyline or supra and give it about 12-1300 bhp and huge tyres.

👍
My thoughts exactly,it can't be that difficult to implement this into the game.

Exactly, what's the catch?

Oh and if you want a Drag Racing Mode in GT5 I suggest you to vote for it here: http://ideas.gtplanet.net/

i think that they should let us race the normal cars in GT5....... but if the PD feel like being generous i would like to see the following categories: Street 289, Top Fuel, Funny Car

but most of all i would like to be able to race some of those high-powered street style cars such as Supras, Rotarys (PLEASE GIVE US THE RX3 IN GT5), Holden VL Calais Turbos and GTRs, like the HKS, PAC Performance, Rajab & Veilside ones :D

Drag racing should be included, but not nessecary to finish the game I think. Also, if there is a mod to tub out a car, you can no longer take it to a road course, it is tubbed for good. Kinda like weight-saving mods already in place. It would get boring to have to complete certain drag races, but racing your friends or some competitor you chose could be fun and a change of pace for a little while.

Im a full on Grip and Drift lover, but im starting to like Drag Racing, its so simple yet awesome, the raw power and acceleration, theres no reason why anyone shouldnt like it...

I defenately think they should include Drag in, put only Super Stock stuff, the cars obviously have to be based on OEM chassis, and we should be able to tune our car with huge drag slicks, small front tires, and have like little elimination championships....
Theyve always had the 400m runs but why not take advantage of that and make it more important. It would love to the cars squat down, tires folding and fighting to keep the car straight.... in GT5P they already started on this, that if you skid why accelerating the car wont go straight which is cool... but imagine on a drag strip.

Yeah, Super Stock aka "The wheel standers" is one of my favorites. Would be just awesome if some NHRA cars were included, and of course the option to modify pretty much any car for drag racing.

Some super stockers:

How is that camaro stock when it's super tuned? :P lol I do not get it...
And why NASCAR is called STOCK CAR racing when every car is ultra tuned?

I always STOCK means straight out from Factory..someone explain it please

............ :indiff:

Anyway, Super Stock is called super stock because of the limited tuning. Almost everything in the engine is stock. Or at least has the stock measurements and sizes. Also the car has to weigh as much as it did from factory, wich means no fiber glass body panels or plastic windows. Ordinary petrol, no nitrous and no turbos or super chargers (if the car doesn't have it from factory).

Stock Eliminator is even more stricted. Then you can't even widen the wheel tubs to fit wider slicks, even less tuning and so on.

I like the idea of having drag cars in GT5, but it fights against the original idea of Gran Turismo. (IMO)
That the cars in the game are everyday cars instead of just race cars/super cars.

My thoughts on this are....Unless they release a G-Force suit which replicates the G-Force of been in a dragster then I couldn't think of anything more boring to do in a game than race in a straight line and then stop - wheres the fun in that in the virtual world - you might as well play this

which i guesss would be more fun as you can see more scenary and go round bends etc.

I feel that drag racing should be in the game.PD does not have to implement their versions of drag cars, just give us our livery editor and our parts houses and we will build our own cars,What could be more fun than turning everyday street cars into fine tuned drag race cars.

Drag racing is a race that comes down to tenth's of a second. Not a lot of margin for error. If you red light, your out.If you are sleeping at the tree (reaction time),your out.If you miss a shift, your out.If you spin the tires coming off the line, your out.If you veer off line and are unable to hold a straight line, your out.All this plus more has to all come together within a matter of seconds, tenth's of a second. If your unable to put it all together, then you have to put it on the trailer and try again the following weekend.Unlike a race which has multiple laps where if you mess up,you have time to to collect yourself together and get going again.

BTW - I am not dissing on those of you who do not like drag racing or not wanting it in the game.I have drag raced before,I know what it takes to be competitive to drag race.It is not as easy as some would apply it to be.Just for kicks, for those of you who never have done drag racing before, take your car,go to the local drag strip and try it out,it's not as simple as just mashing the gas and seeing who hits the 1320 mark first.

just my .02 , thanks

I don't think it fights against the "original idea" of Gran Turismo. In fact I think it's a part of the "original idea" of the game. I mean PD even mentioned to include drag racing in Gran Turismo 2, but 2 drag cars was all we got.

Thats your thoughts alright. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who think drag racing could be really fun, if PD makes it realistic. In real life, if you drive a 1000hp car on the strip, you can't release the steering wheel and just relax, far from it.

Couldn't agree more! 👍

Thats always been a problem with GT, cars dont accelerate straight.. PD needs to implement the wheel spin and make the car sway, torque and stuff...

Yup, for sure.. There is a little bit of this in GT5P though, but far from enough.

I would love drag racing in GT5.

In GT4 i would go to the test track and do a 400m run with, lets say a BMW M3, then save the replay and choose another car( an Audi S4 for eg.) - go back to the test track and load the M3's 400m run, and run against it.
I had hours of fun pitting M5's against E55's and WRX's against Evo's etc.

If GT5 could make this easily accessible instead of going through that to compare different cars acceleration capabilities, it would be awesome!

Yeah I would love to have some sort of drag racing mode. I used to do almost the same thing you did, but it was 2 player me and my friend putting tuned M3's vs stock M5's etc etc... Definately fun:sly: Just sucked that replay for 2 player was splitscreen :(

I think this would be cool to have online, they could add a bracket system to so that rooms could still be used. It would also add some excitement to the game if they put in a pinks game mode where the winner gets the loser's car. Drag racing is probably the hardest form of organized racing as you have to be perfect every round to move on, one thousandth of a second off at the start and you lose.

Indeed, the major part required is drag tyres, something that can hook up with the high HP monsters rather than having to feather the throttle 1/8 mile of the track.
