Engine Swaps in Gran Turismo 7? New Screenshots Raise New Questions

There was a tab in the mod shop after race parts, there was an extreme tab but they didn't show what was in it during the video.
I think engine swaps and then based from what I've seen in tuning menus, perhaps anti lag systems, 4 wheel steering systems and perhaps a couple other surprises?

If engine swaps are truly confirmed, I think I’d mostly do swaps not unlike the Beetle we saw in the trailer, where I’d specifically do swaps that add notably more power to a car. For example, I’d likely put the Honda S2000’s engine into the S800 or S660, and similarly, I’d consider putting the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione’s engine into the newer (but otherwise less powerful) 4C.

Yeah, generally, I don’t really plan for any truly crazy swaps, like putting a rotary into a Mazda Roadster - just mostly ones that’d be between similar models, or manufacturers in the Beetle’s case. Indeed, it could be a lot of fun putting a Supra (A80) engine into say, a Daihatsu Copen, the Sports 800, or the 2000GT, and then tune the heck out of said engine.

EDIT: Definitely gonna do a swap on cars with both lower power, but also have engines that have less ability to be tuned. So that likely means I won’t be swapping say, the Supra (A80), the Sprinter Trueno/Corolla Levin, or the Skyline GT-R (R32), for examples. There’s likely going to be more than enough to work with when it comes to tuning those particular engines. I feel that swapping out a less common sort of engine like a boxer or rotary for a more traditional layout would be sacrilege, too - unless it was one of the same sort, like putting an RX-7 engine into an RX-8.

Wonder if you can add a hybrid system as part of an engine swap?
One would think hybrid units would be included in engine swaps from hybrid cars. You could probably make a great fuel efficiently build for endurance races by finding a chassis with a large fuel tank, putting a hybrid engine into it, and then turbo charging said engine for some efficient power upgrades...

Assuming things like fuel tank sizes, and fuel MPG numbers are semi-accurately simulated.

I wonder if you'll be able to swop an engine 'down' as well as 'up' - as in an Alfa MiTo engine into an Alfa 8C Competetizione for entering in lower PP races?

I'm getting the feeling people need to temper expectations.

'member 'displacement increase' from the first GT? I 'member.
Hey, even if the Beetle/Porsche swap was literally the only one you can do (which I doubt), we'll still have tons of other ways we can modify our cars.

And don't forget when they do 1 swap the possibility of doing more in the future is likely (not sure but likely).

I do think when the swap of the beetle is in game the swap will also be for the VW Samba bus...

A 3SGE engine in the Corolla?

Perhaps. You mean the Corolla Levin, right? But then again, I recall hearing that the engine of a stock Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno is well-known for its modability. So I might wanna see how much fun I can have without swapping the engine.

Man, a whole lot of y'all are gonna be disappointed with the way you're hyping it all up.
I think realistically, there'll be at least some limitations to what engines we can swap. But like I mentioned in a prior post, even if the Beetle/Porsche swap is the sole engine swap we can do, then I'd still be fine with that, because there's simply so many other ways we'll be able to modify the many cars in the game. Especially since over 600 aero parts are confirmed with over a hundred wheels, let alone other stuff like being able to add tow hooks, roll cages, and widebodies - plus changing the license plate.

But I highly doubt we'll be able to do engine swaps on the Ferraris. At best, I could see us being able to swap one Ferrari engine for another - like putting the Enzo's engine in a Testarossa - but that's it. I don't foresee us be able to put the Veyron's W16 into anything, either, if only because it's so big. Although VW did once put a W-engine into a Golf, didn't they?

At any rate, even with any potential limitations, I think I realistically expect that I’ll still be able to do the swaps I had in mind:

Beetle 1200 -> [modern Porsche]

4C -> 8C Competizione

S800/S660 -> S2000

2000GT/Sports 800 -> Supra (A80)

Beat -> NSX Type R

Countach P400 -> Huracan

E-Type -> F-Type

Challenger R/T -> Charger SRT Hellcat

If they do it right, PD imo should look at what are realistic in company or in concern swaps. So, bigger blocks in US cars, Audi blocks in VW's, the kind of tuning AMG and other German specialists have done etc. Not allow anything, but look at what's been done in the tuning sector. That would be interesting and nice.

Don’t worry, bad AI will supersede any good parts of the game.

As for swaps, we had no idea about this feature. 16 days and the PS5ers will be the first to let us know what’s the deal. Loading times of my base PS4 will slow me down. ;)

more like 3sgte since the mr2 is in the game and neither the altezza or the caldina are (for now) in the game

lol no... hard to find parts and if you do, they are expensive as it gets, thats why everybody and their mother is swapping a k20, weights as much as a 4age blacktop for a fraction of the price, more power, more efficient..

Don't limit your horizon to the US ;)
I am not

I am Spanish to begin with.

I know some people tunes the 16v for the hillclimb but they only seem to get 100 hp/l which is the same you would get if swapping a blacktop and people in japan either puts a blacktop or runs the stock 16v

I just hope for somewhat realistic swaps (and no, I don’t want to see any LS-swapped S30’s. God forbid.)

I remember back in GT6 when some people I guess was hacking the game but they were using motors and offsets from different t cars. They made some good combinations, I’m thinking PD saw this because I was never expecting us to change motors!
The drift community was modding the beans out of cars in GT5/GT6 when we found out how to save edit, we were chassis/engine/turbo swapping everything 😂😂 It got to the point in certain competitions that you needed a modded car to stay competitive. Great times if I do say so myself

And yet it totally ruined the games for others... especially in GT5 where cars could be easily shared. You couldn't open a race room without clowns in their modded Supra's joining and stuffing it up. You'd spend more time kicking people when you were host than racing 😔. The only way to have a decent race was to open private rooms but they were much harder to fill like that.

I don't miss those days at all... but I do however welcome these new legit engine swaps.

Yeah I can definitely see the problem in race rooms but we always kept our mods out of other people's lobbies due to being reported. Drifting offers more creative freedom in the sense of not having to worry too much about regulations. I'm excited to see how well the extreme tab is balanced across all disciplines.

+ The rotary guys are going to be 26B swapping Jeep Willy's in GT7 😂😂😂

Just wonder if we could create some monsters like this :drool:
