How many copies will GT Sport sell?

Not really a surprise.
If you look at sales, dates, and price drops, you'll quickly notice GT gets a ton of sales after used copies flood the market, and the price drops quickly to match.
GT6 was 15 bucks 3 months after release. Its not hard to "get sales" when you give it away.

If you wait you can get games really cheap. 95% games I buy are half the price and some I simply hope is free via PS+

If they keep adding updates I am sure it can reach 5million. It also depends on comparison to other racing games. Because Forza7 and Pcars2 I do not think will even reach 2million

The announcement of a traditional career in 'GT League' can only help sales, but the question mark is how much and from what level - IMO the damage (reviews etc) has already been done.

I voted 3m in the poll, and still think that won't be far out when the fat lady sings.
Seeing how aggressively Sony are pushing GT Sport both in retailer bundles and discounts, I'm going to up my note from 5m to north of 6m. We're now in the run in to reach 100m+ PS4's, and to do that, Sony will be selling the system for the next 3-4yrs (well past PS5's launch). GT Sport will be a bundle stable as there are few 1st party racing game offerings.....and indications are it will be supported for some time.

I'd also point out Driveclub ended up selling over 2.5m on half the install base. I'd be pretty confident GT Sport will pass 3m by the end of the Christmas season, then it's the slow burn for the next few years.

Well we'll see :) Be interesting to find out how many DC copies were bundled - wasn't it the driving game bundle for quite a while? DC was helped by becoming a solid well rounded game, with some massive discounts. Certainly some parallels with GTS, but it wasn't good for business or Evolution :(

They bundle their great games for long not mediocre ones. Bargain bin pricing sales and PsPlus deals will help sale most long term.

DC also had a free PS Plus version, don't let "sales" numbers fool you.

GT, Pcars, AC, yes. Possibly with FM7, I don't know if this one will hold stock as well as the last couple.
FM6 was 50$ everywhere 5 months ago, more than 1.5 years after release. FM5 was still $20, 3.5 years after release. FH2 was still around $25 a few months ago, and FH3 is still somewhere around 50, a year after release. And those are the best deals I could find. Good luck even on something like a used "sell-your-junk" app or FB marketplace.
When FM sells 2m copies, it's 2m x $50-100.
When GT6 sold 5m copies, at least a couple million were under $20. GT5 also sold quite a few million after the price was dropped, although I don't remember specifics on how quickly, within a year it was around $20-30.

I'm not saying GT doesn't generate more revenue, but GT didn't reach the 1b mark that much faster than FM did. It's absolutely certain that FM has generated countless amounts more than GT has this generation, and for GT to catch up is pretty much a pipe dream. (especially keeping in mind that money earned sooner = even more, more money))

On the subject of bundling, at this Black Friday moment, John Lewis is out of stock of most PS4 and Pro bundles. The ones remaining are those which only have GTS bundled. Of course we can't read much if anything into that without knowing what stock levels they had, but the point is there's always different bundles and it doesn't guarantee a big boost to sales.

Oh, and GTS itself is £22.99 there, reduced from £32.99.

I've just been shopping in London (Central-West), in Tesco's, Sainsbury's, John Lewis, Toys'R'Us, GAME and Curry's, the only PS4 bundles not sold out are the Gran Turismo Sport ones.

Also, on the shelves, the every big title other than Gran Turismo Sport and Forza 7 are sold out, kind of supporting the trend of the casual/mainstream market finding motorsport to be boring.

Also, go on to the lobbies section in GT Sport, you'll see the string of open lobbies with only 1-6 out of 16-20 participants, compare that to GT6 and GT5 where you'd see a lot of near-full lobbies (like 10-12 out of 16). So online participation looks to be very very low in comparison.

Don't you mean supporting the trend?

Even in the dailies it shows by the matching it makes. SR S isn't hard to gain, so I usually see all S for that. But DR B also isn't that all that hard to get to, yet it isn't managing to fill lobbies with DR B and above a lot of the time. I suppose I play late, and UK is the last big time zone of Europe, but still you'd think there should be enough night owls to fill multiple lobbies to do better match-making, if participation was good. Sometimes it feels like it's only managing to put together 3 or 4 lobbies - less that 100 people.

GTsport was 18 pounds euros whatever, a GTsport bundle was an awful deal to be fair. On the same token Skyrim PSVR bundle smoked the GTsport VR bundle on US amazon.

Consumers are just not seeing GTsport as a must have title or seeing much value in the game.

Review and scores really do matter.

Not surprising really regarding VR GT bundle. I was considering a VR bundle and was leaning towards the Skyrym bundle, and it's not a game I would ever buy. Bit of piss take tbh to offer GTS in a VR bundle.

The VR ads/commercials are god awful in the UK tbh... they are aimed to be more funny/gimmicky than anything else... One shows an Ostrich getting one stuck on it's head, then learning to fly, and fleeing the flock.... and the other shows some guy on a sofa with friends. He's wearing the VR headset and the others are just watching him on tv, with him swaying about next to them, everyone laughing and showing how it can be social too or some crap..... very vague info on what it actually does.

Unless you really know what you are looking at, then it doesn't really come across what it actually does. Most non technical people probably think it is just a mini tv strapped to the head. Especially as they've prob seen/tried them cardboard cheapo phone holder things that have been going about for years now, and how crap they were. They aren't helping drive the sales either.

They should have stuck to the wording "Virtual Reality"..... "VR" is to vague to get noticed imo.

I am not seeing the price cuts here in the U.S. that you guys are showing across the big water. Actually for Black Friday GTS is mainly still bringing full price, I did see a couple of places had it for 49.95 U.S. down from full price of 59.99 U.S.

I saw better deals on GTS here in the states at launch than I am seeing now.

This includes the non-VR bundles, also, went online in GT Sport again and let's just say the total lobbies worldwide don't even go past two pages and I sincerely doubt they're all going into sport mode, this game has flopped majorly.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the death of Gran Turismo, Sony will not want to commission a sequel after this, the demo had more players than the full game!

Except even on this site we have seem to
seen an influx of new posters since mid October.

Would be interesting to hear from the admins how many newcomers have come to GT Planet......

It doesn't seem to translate into players actively racing on GT Sport though does it?

I think the data sample is too small andvtoo llimited in time to confirm that. Lets wait until after Christmas and see. It doesn't mean much but for instance I know 2 work colleagues who are casual racers like me and both wilk be getting PS4's and GTS at Christmas. GTS in UK was selling at No 3 in Amazon and now gone back to £30.

We also don't know what the sales targets were. I remember seeing some time ago Sony's focus was increasing PS+ sales as the PS4 install base is becoming more mature.

Do you have a link ? that at all connects GT to that intention, that sounds more like a gtplanet made up excuses for low sales athen a realistic strategy given soys ways.

Dual Shockers report on Sony PS4 Strategy in May 2017. In harvest mode as has 70 mil units sold. PS+ at 26.4 million users and intent to grow by launching new games. Halfway through article is slide showing GT Sport and PS+ on same slide.....GT Sport also appears on another slide too.

ps the article also makes reference to need for new products to address mobile phone market - a key reason for lower console sales in Japan generally...

You only need to look online in lobbies and sport mode to realise how very few people are still playing this game, in lobbies you'll only see 30-40 lobbies online at a time per region, and in Sport Mode the same few players resurface over and over again.

I'm pretty sure there's only about 100-500 people still playing this game.

Dude, your fact are ********!

- Why are the Lobbys not full? Because PD decided to put always new Lobbys on top! Ist a bad decision with leads to never full Lobbys.
- Have you tried counting the Lobbys? (Dont trust the number on front, ist bugged). There are 500 - 1000 Lobbys (!) on all the time
- Can you see on the FIA Events there like 15 -20 full Lobbys at the same timeslot in the Events (everyone can just Play on 1 timeslot.) So daily races will be lower but more than 10 Slots per Raceevent is easiliy possible. Just like 10 % are SR = S, most new Players are below. So there more than enough Players

Compare the numbers to IRacing, Forza 7 or F1 2017.... GT is MILES ahead...

Stop spreading BS man...

Sorry are you sure that you didn't miss off a few noughts ? In test season 3 of the European region manufacturers championship alone there are over 7,000 rankings - got bored clicking R1 - stopped clicking on total points of 249 where most people had two to three race entries for the week just gone....

This is the most premier race entry so many more playing Sport daily and offline in Arcade and Campaign. Trophy info indicates only 55% of players have watched the Sportmanship Videos

In Gran Turismo 5 or 6 I remember it going into 6-figures.

For a semi off line seasonal time trial or 3 lap+ race against AI of maybe 5-10 minutes but we are are talking about 20+ minute 'premier' races of 10+ laps against real people online which is not the same thing....either way I'd hope you agree your 500 to 1000 people number was somewhat too low......

Um Nowhere do they state they will be turning their biggest franchise into some Plus selling point. Really reading much into nothing, it's just a slide. Uncharted is one of the, means nothing. There just using their own ip's to illustrate a point.

This is all they specifically say. "also enhancing the game line-up with launches like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Gran Turismo Sport."

They don't even insinuate that they are using any of their franchises by purposefully putting them behind a paywall in an attempt to drive Plus adoption.

PD used a NFS slide in one of their presentations lol, must mean so much right.
