Why. Must. All. Engineers. In. All. Racing. Games. Have. A. Ridiculous. Accent.

He comes from where I come from, does that mean I have a ridiculous accent? Where are you from? I might think you have a ridiculous accent.

I bought the game about half an hour ago regardless of the bad reviews and glitches.

I'll post my view on the game later.

So, all these positive reviews didn't see any of these bugs.....? Not one mention
It only took me 2 gaming sessions/races to see em...

What about the beta testing crew? They need to be sacked ASAP!

I get what you're saying Ardius and I'm no coder or anything, but on a dedicated racing game ... mate ... this is a shocking bug.

I don't think you are getting what Ardius is saying. Do people think GT5 won't have bugs on release? Course it will. I bet some of them are just as bad too. Besides, there are work arounds, which you don't always get with bugs.

It's so easy for something to break between builds because various factors effect various parts, that's why you don't get big changes in patches as a general rule. It's quite easy to make a change and for it to effect something else without realising it.

Although I would expect GT5 to have more time in testing as its not so time-critical. F1 2010 needed to be released now to make the most of the current season, we are on the exciting end of the season and only at the start of the football season, so people are more likely to be in an F1 mood.
GT5 can be released at pretty much any time, although Sony obviously want it sooner than later, there is less pressure to deliver immediately, at least when it comes to sorting out more serious bugs. With GT, they can afford to spend the time trying to fix such a major bug.

Indeed, this says more about how terrible the game reviewers are if they never noticed this bug.
It makes me think that either the reviewers were told to write a positive review, or that they were told by Codemasters about the bug in advance and asked not to mention it or they were just very lazy reviewers and never even completed a race!

That being said, game reviewers are not always sent the finished build, usually a demo for titles that are still in development. This bug very may well have only come up in the final build, after the demos and betas...

I think the reviewers were gagged from mentioning anything bad about this game. The reviews are too universally positive for them to have had freedom to say what they want.

I've just given it a go for an hour or two, and I went into this game having reasonable expectations as I hadn't been consumed with all the hype it was getting; but I still find it disappointing. Obviously I can't say how much better the 360 version is because I don't have it, but whilst I'd expect it to look marginally better as is usual, I can't see it making that much difference.

Frame rate issues, bland washed-out graphics, uninteresting handling, unhelpful force feedback that tells you nothing about car grip levels...Even when I accept that it's just meant to be a game with mass-appeal, I still think it's sub-par

I certainly feel that I got fleeced and I won't go near F1 2011 regardless of what they promise and who they pay to authenticate it's "realism".

Shame really...

Good God this game makes you work for it! I'm making my way through career mode, decided to tackle Sepang at full length on hard. Just managed to squeeze my way through to the front and build up a nice little lead with 3 laps to go. Then too much throttle out of the corner and my HRT became acquainted with the barrier, losing the front wing. For the last three laps I was haemorraging time on a rapidly closing De La Rosa (????). Just managed to hang on for the win. How satisfying!

I'm guessing you haven't experienced the pit lane bug then. I'm trying to find a vid but I can't yet. I think someone posted one ITT but I cbf'd finding it. it's 11:45 pm here :P

I've seen videos of the bug, basically there's an error correlating the time needed for the car to get out and the actual gap "available". Could be a whole host of reasons why the bug exists, wouldn't take much for it to go wrong, be quite a complex bit of code.

I've jumped in, only done Time Trial at Korea atm. Got the options and feedback to about where I want it. Yes, the feedback is a little weak, though I think it's something I'll get accustomed too. As it did with F1CE. I can't comment much beyond that, I quite literally did about 10 laps.

Obviously there is some issue with the invalid laps penalty, I put a wheel out on the side of the track and it invalidated it. I think it feels better in the corner than F1CE, particularly in long corners. A "heavier" feeling, then again my wheel weight is up to 100%. The initial wheel saturation setting is horrible.

Graphics didn't strike me as badly as some people are stating, then again, I've always been quite low on my demands for graphics.

I enjoyed those 10 laps though, Korea looks good, the last section is quite fun, particularly in those last 3 corners up to the finish.

I honestly haven't had the bug, it must be the PC version, I put my pits on auto because its too janky to have a realistic stop with me controlling. Anyhow, i run my races on 75% and I pit from 2nd and was released in the middle of 3-4th battle as well as back markers, in total a group of about 7 cars. So I don't mean to throw a wrench in what seems to be a legitimate issue but its not reared its head so far.

How did you set it to 10%? I'm playing F1 2010 on PC and the lowest option I have is 20%.

On the PS3 there is an option to choose 1 lap (I think), 3 laps, 10%, 20% etc. 20% & over generates pit stops - which is something I've wanted to avoid at this point so I can concentrate on the feel of the actual racing. I would like to have the option to run longer races without having to worry about the pitting issues, however.

Graphics didn't strike me as badly as some people are stating, then again, I've always been quite low on my demands for graphics.

I'm an FC/SCC fan, so I'm fine with mediocre graphics. ;) However, as usual, there seem to have been built-up expectations that the graphics would be superb - which they certainly are not.

As far as the FFB is concerned, I went back to F1CE for a 25 lap race. When I switched back to F1 2010, I thought the game must have defaulted to a lighter FFB setting at first, but then realized that it was just the difference between F1CE & F1 2010 that made me think that. :indiff: But yes, I do think the FFB & physics in F1 2010 are a little more descriptive than in F1CE where you are either in control or spinning...

Hi Peter,

I know that you haven't drive a F1 car IRL to make a solid statement on this but, considering your sim racing experience and your sensitive, what would you describe as being more "close to reality" in terms of physics - F1:CE or F1 2010?

I also understand from your reviews (and others) that while the global FFB of F1:CE is more pleasant to you (stronger & visceral à lá SCC), the FFB of F1 2010 is more "detailed" - it communicates better what's on the tarmac at every moment. Is that it?

I am totally impressed w/ how many critics there are around here about the pit problem, my head just spins reading this stuff. I guess it serves a purpose and maybe Codemasters might stumble across our thread in what I’m thinking is a major player in the forum world, so that’s a good thing. In my world the only power I have is to make my thoughts known directly to them, I might try to use their forum like the one I found at EA when there was a big problem with SHIFT. If you haven’t bought the game yet and someone talks you out of the purchase because of a problem that is part of a script that doesn’t crash the game then I’m bummed.

As far as the game setting me back to some ridiculous position when I enter the pits verses when I left the pit, it’s no big deal w/ me, I just push hard and work the traffic. I was never a very good starter when I raced motox and always had to work my way through the compo and learned that my biggest challenge was running out of time to pass more people. There are a lot of people out there who aren’t very good at working through traffic and will only have a good day if they get a hole shot.

If you have spent money on a big old flat screen TV that cost between 300 and 3000 dollars, suround sound and a wheel to play these kind of games and won’t take a chance on it considering that it might have cost you 60 bucks, trust me you could sell it for 20 bucks in a heartbeat. Maybe you need to go and buy a go-kart. That way you’d get a real FFB wheel, the best high def visuals, true surround sound, and an invisible fan that blows wind in your face so you stay cool. :)

After a few laps my initial impressions are good, I'm still a good chunk off the pace at Bahrain(haven't got the new section down yet) though.

I gotta say, this game is kinda like wine, you really have to let it settle on you and pick up the ryhthm of the game. It seems like a completely different game from when I 1st picked it up, its starting to get a little edge now, not like F1:CE by any means but getting close. You absolutely have to pick up your apexes, if you do that you can almost barrel out full throttle every time its amazing the difference.

The game still seems to lean towards understeer but I found a little trick that helps. Playing last night I realized the game seems like it doesn't give you the feedback you need when braking and it seems like the brakes are actually locking up, and causing everyone a lot of understeer, but not giving them the feedback(squealing, smoke etc...), which could be the reason for complaints about punctures and understeer.

So what I started doing was to brake to the level I though necessary, and then instead of waiting for the feedback tha signals I can turn in to the apex, I simply let go of the brake and hoped the speed was adequate. This improved my times by about 2 seconds, I hit every apex and played much closer to F1:CE than the 1st night. So you have to just trust that you've slowed down enough and with the brake release the car will pivot around and hit its apex, its wierd at 1st but try it.

Another little trick is to, cheat your turn-in, or start turning in a little sooner, I find that if you wait (threshold brake) and try to take a normal turn-in the car will not respond well, but if you cheat your angle maybe 1 or 2 degrees before you start your actual turn-in you will improve the feel and attitude of the car immensely.

Therefore instead of the process going; throttle-->brake-->turn-in-->apex. It would look more like; throttle-->turn 1*->brake almost simultaneously-->turn-in-->apex. I know there is some details and differences in braking and throttle application that are different but this is the overall rythym and technique that has gotten the car into the best corner positions and feel for me and has totally transformed the game for me. Lastly, add 1 car length to your braking zone. I hope this helps.

Wait.... what!!?

A HSR, in the lead!!! ON HARD!!!!    ahahahaha

Thats the final bit of info i needed to hear right there. Will not be buying this 'simulation' f1 racer. Enjoy fellas 👍

(3 laps with no front wing and still won too!!! My word)

Hard is not actually hard, there is another level, Legendary, use that. I finished 10th in Lotus, I am awesome at the game and I could only manage 10th. For contrast in F1:CE I would almost lap the 2nd and 3rd place drivers every race and in F1 2010 in the Sauber I managed 3rd. It was a good challenge and worth the money in my opinion to be racing and not winning every race its refreshing.

Heard a few others saying trail braking is essential.

No doubt, thats what I do when I start my cheat technique and turn-in. Once I think I am going to understeer, I just let go and trust the car will pivot into the corner, it does. I don't recommend trailing to the apex, your out speed will suffer. Trailbrake through your initial turn-in, and once you get to where, in any other game the car should pivot or turn into the apex, let go of the brake and it will pivot into the apex, throttle and go. This game is funny like that and you would expect to have the back end snap around when coming off the brake mid-turn it doesn't.

First you have to appreciate that I have spent several hundred hours playing F1CE & only 6 or 7 playing F1 2010, so I can't make a truly balanced comparison.

The FFB in F1CE actually gives you almost no information about what your TIRES are doing (in the way that SCC does). What it does is give you a sensation of traveling at high speed over bumps & irregularities in the road surface in a low-slung car with stiff suspension. There is no other game that I have played that does this so well. It also communicates some of the sensation of cornering G-forces when you move the wheel - but again not as well as SCC does. Driving fast in F1CE means learning your braking, coasting, shifting, steering & accelerating points exactly & then trying to execute them lap after lap. The FFB is immersive but not particularly communicative about what the car's grip is at any moment. It's possible that this IS somewhat what RL F1 driving feels like- I don't know.

The FFB in F1 2010 actually gives you a bit more information about what your tires are doing while cornering (although not nearly to the extent that SCC does), but overall has less weight to it & does not communicate the sensation of G-forces. One of things I have noticed about F1 2010 is that when you are racing in T cam view you can see the top of the driver's head (you!) bouncing around, but (unlike F1CE) none of this is communicated through the wheel.

If what you're asking, bullie, is "should I buy F1CE or F1 2010?" - that's a difficult question to answer at this point. I have really enjoyed F1CE - it's been the best offline racing game on the PS3 by a long shot IMO & it still stands up well after almost 4 years. It could be, that as we explore the potential of F1 2010 - its online mode for example - it will turn out to be a better game all-round.

If this thread is anything to go by, the final GT5 thread is going to cause the internet to shut down.

1) It was never meant to be a simulator.

2) All games have bugs.

3) If you don't enjoy it, or it wasn't what you were expecting - it doesn't mean the game is bad.

I'm yet to play it, I'll get a copy soon no doubt. But I could pick holes in any game I have played...so for now, there's only about 2-3 peoples opinions in this topic who I actually respect and they have been a mixture of positive and negative.

Is it just me finding the damage to be awful?

I know if was too severe in F1CE, but this is ridiculous. I've experimented with sideswiping other cars in Free Practice, and my car is damn near indestructible!
