Anyone else finding the AI really slow/weird split times at Sepang? First practice session I was 7 seconds slower in T2 yet still had fastest lap by about .8. It might have been the suspect conditions, it was just about to rain, so maybe that added more caution to the AI, even though there was tonnes of grip there?

Well thats F1 2010 over for me for the time being, returned my copy to Sainsburys today and got my dosh back.

Its a shame because there was a lot I really liked about it, I liked the physics it was very enjoyable to play, and the AI were actually very impressive when it came to racing wheel to wheel with you on track.

The whole game is really focused on the career mode (as it should be in a F1 game) and most of the bugs I could live with/work around but the one regarding the AI not pitting was just unforgivable to me.

There I was busting my ass off in quali in a Virgin to try and get a descent grid slot, then racing as best I could hopefully making up another few places only to pit and come out at the back of the field miles behind every single time, it was just a real game breaker for me, I am so dissappointed :(

They are talking about patcing the game, but who knows when or whether they will be able to fix it properly, if they can make it the great game that it has the potential to be then I may well purchase it again in the future.

If only someone from codemasters had actually sat down and played the final product, started a career and done a few races they would have noticed all these faults in a short space of time, thats the part I don't think I will ever understand...

I hate Australia!!!!!!!(The track, not the country/continent)

I'm currently in the middle of P2 and cannot find a good line anywhere, on top of that it seems the braking points are different every lap, I can nail a corner one lap but the next lap I brake at the same point and shoot right into the gravel.

At this rate there is no way I'm going to reach my targeted 12th spot since I can't even get into the top 20.

^^ The little 100 metre signs are almost always the perfect braking marker for every corner.

And I rock. Even if it was an elaborate accident.

QUOTE=Anes;4038844]This is a major flaw I've noticed in the physics. No matter how sideways you are (read: completely spun out 170 degrees) just slam the brakes on and leave the steering centred. The car will always straighten itself out like magic :grumpy:

I've only tried this with all assists off but I've drifted 3/4 of the Bahrain straight doing it.

Ps, Traded this game for R.U.S.E yesterday.[/QUOTE]

It's quite easy to break something without realising it and that includes testing it as well, the non pitting bug could be caused by many things rather than them simply not having a bit of code telling the AI to pit on Races over x length.

Justin - Sounds like you are overcooking it on the brakes.

My braking points at Australia are:

110M for T1. 100M for T3, just a dab in to T4, about 95 for T6 (T5 is flatout), 110M for T8, then I just wait till I can see the apex for the quick left-right (I use airbox cam), then about 70M for the 2nd right hander after that, about 90M for the next right and about 70M for the final left hander, easing off the throttle if needed for the last corner. If that's any help.

It's quite hard on braking, have you got your braking setups right? Too much at the front will create the understeer that can cause you to overshoot. It's a tough track though, all about rhythm.

GT5 isn't going to last long for you then either...come on, I know that bugs are annoying and all, especially ones like that, but surely its no different from screwing up by your own mistake? I mean, you can avoid that particular bug if you just alter your pit strategy....

A patch will come, why do people assume Codemasters intended to release it like this? Isn't kind of obvious some amount of rushing was involved to avoid GT5 and to make the most of the 2010 season?

I'm currently in the middle of P2 and cannot find a good line anywhere, on top of that it seems the braking points are different every lap, I can nail a corner one lap but the next lap I brake at the same point and shoot right into the gravel.

At this rate there is no way I'm going to reach my targeted 12th spot since I can't even get into the top 20.

My braking points:
Turn 1/2 - flag-lights-system-thingy (I think its around 100m board), approximately, early turn in (observe a real life onboard for the specific point). Try to take it in 5th gear and floor the throttle before hitting the first apex.
Turn 3 - Approximately 50m before the big red Shell "V-Power" advertising board above the circuit. 2nd gear corner.
Turn 4 - Take it in about 3rd gear, constant half throttle so you don't spin but don't understeer.
Turn 5 - Easy flat in 5th gear I think it is. Turn in point just after the white Bridgestone wall ends on the left.
Turn 6 - My reference point for this one is the white tents to the right outside the track. Turn in point is around the Bridgestone advertising board above the circuit and I take it around 3rd or 4th gear. Pretty flat out on the exit.
Turn 9 - Braking point just before the flag-lights-system-thingy (its just in front of another Bridgestone board). 2nd gear, flat after the apex.
Turn 11/12 - Qantas board as reference point for braking. Try to take it in 6th and get all the way to the left side for a flat exit on turn 12.
Turn 13 - 50m board, 2nd/3rd gear corner. Fairly easy, don't overdo the exit speed.
Turn 14 - Another easy corner, sometimes maybe shift down but you can take this one half throttle ok.
Turn 15 - Braking point is another of those flag-light thingys on the right hand side, try to slow down as much as possible, the slower the better with this coner so you can maximise your exit for the last corner.
Turn 16 - easy flat, minimal steering is crucial.

Hope that helps, otherwise study the real onboards and practice! The best place to make up time on the AI is at turns 11/12 (they take them far too slowly) and the final turn. Most of the corners can be potential overtaking places with the right speed (apart from turns 6 and 9 which are too narrow).

This.

I find turn 1 and turn 9 to be the most tricky corners qua braking points. It took me some laps to get them right, but once I got them right I enjoyed the track so much. Melbourne's always been one of my favorite tracks, especially with that super-fast turn 1 in which everything can go wrong but if you get it right it's such an intense corner to take.

Might I also say how good of a damn job Codemasters did on the Monaco track? This track is so intense to drive at! I figured out that I could use flashbacks to avoid tyre punctures (apropos, I used 3 flashbacks, yes 3, to overcome punctures). I had to sacrifice the non-pitting bug with flashbacks so that Sutil went on to win the race, but oh what the hell. I had such an awesome time chasing Rosberg for 5th. Once he pitted, I put in some hotlaps for 4 laps and managed to come out in 3rd, right behind Alonso and just in front of Hamilton. Fantastically fun stuff, even if I am driving with ABS on and some traction control!

However, I've noticed though that some AI drivers, Massa in particularly seem to pit twice for no reason. They'll pit quite soon but when they catch up behind me there's no damage to be seen and their laptimes are still hot when they suddenly pit a second time 2/3 through the race and fall back to 12-14th. Especially Button and Massa seem to share this habit in my career...

Ok, I am completely done with career until they fix it. More or less wasted my day by running tests. All on legend. Ran 3 20% races with tyre simulation, no matter what I did, I could not finish the races without pitting twice? If I pit 1 lap early the Primes went out on LAST LAP. If I pit 1 lap late, the options went during that extra lap. THEN I take off tyre simulation, and suddenly I'm in 1st place by the end of the 3rd lap on Bahrain? And it gets WAY better!! I end up having a 30 sec lead (in a virgin) and I lost it on a turn a damaged the front wing a little bit. I didn't have to pit, but chose to out of bordom. So I pit and 3 people pass me. I end up not being able to pass them for the final lap and I pass the finish line in 4th and when it's congratulating you and all IT GAVE ME 11TH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had NO penalties or anything!!!!!! This game is so beyond broken!! It's such a shame because I love it.

has anyone else had similar issues?

I can only assume from this response that you haven't played the career mode.

You CAN NOT avoid the AI not pitting, you come in for your mandatory pit stop, the majority of the AI don't. Result- you are left at the back of the field every time.

Please explain to me what you can do to avoid this.

The majority is a bit of an overstatement.

Is it ? Then please explain to me why you pit from 10th or 12th place ( Im talking a normal 5sec stop here) only to rejoin the race in dead last miles behind everyone.

I suggest you read this thread over at CM forums, it is a well known problem. Note how people try the recommendations at the start of the thread, as in pit 1 or 2 laps later, yes this avoids getting held in your pit box for 20 secs, but it doesnt stop you getting put to the back of the field when you do pit.

Answer- The majority of the AI are not pitting

Turn off tire and fuel simulation.

I know its an immersion breaker but it makes the game more fare until the patch comes along.

I've done the 1st race twice, and both times i saw the top ai AI pitting. i was @ 30% race distance. I had a super fast pit stop of only 5 seconds and that helped me take the lead comfortably.

I didnt notice anything to lead me to believe that the other AI weren't pitting, but then again, I was up front. I did notice that the crappy teams seemed pretty much up to speed with the faster ones about halfway through the race. Maybe that is cus they didnt pit? lol I didnt check the tires they had at race start compared to a few laps after I pit

I am just racing online; grand prix (10-20% race only), and time trial. This avoids some of the AI bugs.

Still have to deal with punters and bowlers, even in qualifying :banghead:

But I am still having lots of fun and GT5 just gets closer everyday :)

My copy finally came in the mail today. Cant wait to get started. Even with all the bugs the game has, it still seems like it should still be a fun game.

Just do custom. I don't know if any of you read my post on last page, the game CHANGED my finish position!! No penalties or anything. The career mode is full of a lot of bugs. It's an unenjoyable hassle to avoid al of them during one race too.

Answer- The majority of the AI are not pitting

Apart from one race in which the winner seemed to be switched with the guy driving in P9 everything is working out great so far. I have not yet experienced the pitstop bug as my pitstop crew usually get my out in 4.5-5 seconds. The only time I've encountered certain AI cars not pitting is when you use flashbacks.

Most of them do with my (only tends to be 1 who doesn't) experience so far.

Are you doing a career with legend AI, all aids off and tyre and fuel simulation on ?

Turn off tire and fuel simulation.

I know its an immersion breaker but it makes the game more fare until the patch comes along.

I agree that helps but only because you are then battling up the front because you are way to fast, not really realistic for a Virgin.

Are you talking about a career race ? If so the fact you were first tells me you were playing on lower difficulty settings, being in first in one of the bottom teams is not realistic.

Its a really important point about the difficulty settings. I was doing a career in what is supposed to be the most realistic settings-

Legend AI, all aids OFF, tyre and fuel simulation ON
The only things I had on were the autobox and the racing line but these dont effect the pace of the car.

With these settings you will find yourself racing in the bottom half of the field (as you should be in a Virgin etc), you will pit from 12th place for example and then rejoin usually dead last (after a 5sec stop) and remain there for the rest of the race, due to the competition not pitting.

Unless you have tried a career on the above settings you will not know what I am talking about, all I can say is try it for yourself and you will see.

Enigma- NO, go test it, seriously!! I agree with him. Yesterday was like a "test" day for me. I ran the Bahrain race 4 times testing different things. Run that race with 30% with tire simulation off on LEGEND and watch how you can magically be in first place, by the end of lap 2. I really defended this game when it forst came out because I wasn't experiencing any of these bugs, but after last night, I'm not playing career anymore until it's fixed. I should have to have my settings a certain way to avoid error.

doh! :dunce:

stayed out too long on inters at istanbul and got a puncture on the 2nd to last lap, far from the pits

8th to last, just like that

yes i could have restarted, but life's not like that eh? :)

Bought the game yesterday, what can I say? It´s an fantastic game! Really it has all I ever wanted... It´s so intesive... I really love the training, then Q1,Q2,Q3 and then the race... So you can concentrate on 1 track and can learn the course very fast...

I can only hope that we get something similar in GT5. Not only start on P16 and try to get first in 5 laps...

I bought it to (overtake?) the time till GT5... Never thought that it would be that much fun... Ok the bugs are bad but after some patches the game will be really great I think...

Really this game shows that you don´t need 1000 cars and 100 tracks because with the career mode you can have a lot of fun... It´s great to have 1 car and 1 team and play one hole season with them... That was what I missed in GT4... You got an favourite car but you can´t use it in every race...

You change your car in every race and must learn the new car again in only one race...

8th to last, just like that
This is known in the business as pulling a Tommy Cooper...

I am getting the hang of the game a bit more, and should really switch the aids off, since I'm able to get pole by some distance on Professional level, which probably isn't right... still, it is probably going to be a while until I'm turning the traction control off completely...

Are you doing a career with legend AI, all aids off and tyre and fuel simulation on ?

Yep, 50% race distance, everything manual, etc. I can get to about 10th in the Lotus, 6th or so at the start of the weekend. Only reason I drop back is due to me overcooking it in slow corners. I've never been held up in the pits, and have quite often seen loads pitting (like at Bahrain where you can actually see them pitting when on the back straight on the map.)

It does happen, I'm just not finding it as big an issue as you are claiming.

There is definitely a timing issue at Malaysia on my split times. Not affected my lap times though, so meh. It's a fun track. Each corner is quite engaging and you can lose a lot of time (apart from the flatout left-right at the end of the lap.)

How many races have you done in your career ?

I am astonished that you have not been held up in the pits, are you avoiding pitting when the team suggests ?

I was doing 20% races not 50, also you mention being in 6th place at the start of the weekend, do you mean qualifying, what track was that because that sounds pretty high up the order for the settings I mentioned, Im guessing it could be Bahrain, thats only race that I didn't have a problem with

The pitting issue is known to occur at 20% race distance. Anything over it with a strategy a lap earlier or later than the one that is being given to you will resolve the issue.

I'm still hard -pressed to continue my career with that ridiculously annoying tire puncture bug. :grumpy:

Every race it seems "oh, you left tire has a puncture..."

I hope that patch comes sooner rather than later.
