You will get patches on a silver account mate. Codies are paying for the patch, so it would be unfair for a third party to make money, even MS.

I actually own both versions, for silly reasons.

Eurogamer done an interesting article. Digital foundry put the xbox up against the ps version.
Their result was the ps version edges it, with less screen tear and other techno stuff.

PS version seems a little jaggy compared to the xbox.

In my opinion there's very little to choose.

What I have noticed with Xbox, Playstation users, is that not many people use mics on PS.
They tend to use the chat function more.
When I race with friends on xbox its alot easier to call out manoeuvres in the fly as it were. Maybe its just the people I've met.

It's not always good to have randoms mic'd, but theres a mute for that lol.

Oh what am I rambling on about now.
Sorry OT.

👍

This is important info for anyone swithering as to which version to buy... I may still convert to the Xbox version because my mates all have Xbox's and I'd like to be able to take it over to their places and play it, so if the patches are freely available, that makes a difference.

If you don't mind me asking, do you have a 1080p TV, and if so, do you not notice the difference in the Xbox and PS versions when the Xbox is upscaling? My mate and I both noticed it immediately...

Vertical or horizontal?

That could very well be down to the fact that nothing is upconverted, therefore there's little to absolutely no compromised fidelity. Yeah, TM said it's optimized for 720p....so it'll probably give the illusion that there's less because the resolution is smaller (although I'm not claiming the tearing is the same regardless of the resolution).

Try that guy's. It'l explain better than I.

Honestly my PS purchase was down to hardware (G27)
My Xbox friends were playing it a lot, so I traded in some junk and ended up with two versions.

I've spent more time on the PS version but honestly the only difference to me is that the static screen I.E. garage, menu etc, seem smoother on xbox.

I only run my Xbox occasionally to run online. My only dowside to the xbox for me is my microsoft wheel.

For Playstation, I back up to USB stick. I then put my USB into my laptop to rename the file (save1)etc.

That is important because when you come to backup another save it will overwrite the previous one if the file is the same name.

You could end up overwriting a good save with a corrupt one.

If I need to use a previous save I just give it, it's original name (SAVEDATA) and I'm ready to rock.

Never needed it yet though but there's always a first time.

Edit, sorry McLaren I wouldn't know mate. I haven't a clue with tech, I had to ask someones advice for my problem.
I'll make a post on Codemasters forum and see what comes up.

I know I joined the rabble, it's hectic over there, not a very nice place but I'll try.

Well good news, the new Nvidia drivers released today support SLI with F1 2010.

The recent beta drivers didn't support SLI for F1 2010 and PC gamers from ATI and Nvidia report low usage in general so the new official drivers should fix all the probs for Nvidia guys.

So now I have 100+ FPS instead of 40-50 with my SLI setup, full usage on both GPUs. :D

Same with Catalyst 10.9; I'm seriously considering picking up another 4870 as I don't want to upgrade anything (as in a major upgrade) until I have steady income again.

EDIT: Nevermind.

The patch has DX11 so maybe sell your 4870 and pick a new AMD card. Seems a waste to buy another. You must be getting 40-60 fps already no?

Just about. It all comes down to CM and their patch, but you're right it would be something of a waste to buy another 4870 when I could pick up a 5830 or 5850.

Ok what the hell!?? Just started my first race in career mode. Qualified 1st in Bahrain a full second ahead of Webber. But I started the race on 21ST! Webber was on pole.
Is this one of the bugs? Or did I violate some sort of new rule of F1?

Sounds like you got a 10 second time penalty during qualifying...

Ah....now I think about it I remember bumping into someone on one of the corners during the third qualyfing session.
Oh well, since I'm doing the race on 100% distance, I'll have a big job a head of me fighting through the field. Wish me luck......

I've just finished a race in which in real life the fans would explode of tension!

Hungary:

I qualified 14th for the race after failing to come in fast enough for a set of wets in qualifying when the track got too wet for intermediates. The race was wetter than any other session I have ever been in, conditions were horrible.

As the race started there was no grip at all, not for anyone in the field. We were all pretty much touching 1'40s at the start. After about 5-7 laps grip started to come and I was able to attack 12th and 13th placed drivers. I planned a pitstop at lap 14 but because the track was starting to dry up I postponed my pitstop until lap 18 when everyone else started to pit.

Only 4 laps later the entire top 10 pitted once more for options and so did I when I suffered a puncture on the inters. The track was drying up really fast! But the top 10 pitted a straight second time which was very weird and so I came out in 1st position with Schumacher right behind me.

If things weren't chaotic enough the top 10 seemed to remain in their pit spots, making me having them lapped by 13 laps at the finish... Talk about a lolwut moment :dunce:

Anyway, I thought I was going to take the win but at the very last lap I suffered a puncture. I could not believe it and realized Schumacher was only 5 seconds behind so my win was pretty much gone. I cannot believe I lost that win on the very last lap after such a hectic race! It was awesome fun though, I really had to grind my teeth in the opening 5 laps with those conditions and a very good defending AI! 👍

Trulli finally scored his first 2 points with a 9th position and both HRT drivers scored points due to that awkward AI top 10 pitting moment :P

Standing 5th, 19 points behind Button who has 127 points in the championship. I declined a contract from HRT and Toro Rosso and waiting for a Sauber contract unless Force India offers me one.

Haven't played this game for nearly 2 weeks after being abroad, but it's epic fun returning to it

I told you before that I don't think the PS3 upscales games. Well now I'm pretty damn sure about it. I just remembered that at the PS3's launch people who had rear-projection TVs that did not support 720p but did support 1080i had to run the games in 480p. This is because the PS3 does not have the capability to scale the 720p image (and interlace it I guess) to 1080i. Also, with any new game that supports 720p but not 1080p people with TV's/monitors that display the resolution being received will show 720p.

Of course, developers can always build scaling into their game but it is not worth it considering all TVs will scale the input to their display resolution.

And let's not forget the crazy resolution capabilities that the X360 has. I used to work as a game tester and we had so many different screens (they probably just bought what was cheapest at the time ) and the X360 would fill 16:9 in your standard resolutions (480/720/1080), 16:10 for LCD monitors in many different resolutions and 4:3 in many different resolutions for CRT monitors. No matter what game we were testing it would always fill the screen because the console did all the scaling work. I also believe that the X360 has hardware scaler as opposed to a software onelink.

I highly doubt that the much better graphics you are seeing are due to the scaler but it probably plays at least a small role.

As would I, but my game's through Steam, so there's all sorts of folders hidden within other folders.
Most games save irrespective of where they are installed (a lot used to save in APPDATA) so whether thgey are installed through Steam or CD then the saves end up in the same place. In this case their folder is determined by Games4Windows.

Anyways, here's my post from the corrupt save game thread:
I always backup my saves now though, just go to "My Documents" > "My Games" > "FormulaOne". Then copy and paste the whole savegame folder back into the "FormulaOne" folder so it creates a copy. Then I rename it with the date and time so that I can keep multiple backups.
Just click on the folder, CTRL+C then CTRL+V.

As for the update ...
I can't wait! The changelog looks good. I've been getting back into iRacing but jumping back to F1 2010 once and awhile is damn fun.

Is anybody else finding it hard to set a competitive lap time at circuit de catalunya?

In all 3 practice sessions I haven't set a lap faster than a high 1'27 while the other backmarkers are in the 1'25 bracket.

Driving a Lotus btw.

That track seems to be "bugged". I believe the AI runs minimum fuel & option tires nearly throughout the whole weekend there.

TS
I've ran light fuel, full fuel, prime tires, option tires, it just seems that I can't keep up with the AI.
Again, it does seem to be a bugged track. You'll have to do your best & hope you place where you want. The AI are just ridiculously fast at that track.

I just won my first race from pole (career mode 20%) today at Monza in wet conditions. I was aided on lap 1 when Vettel got into webber at Variante della roggia and blocked the track long enough for me to pull out a 10 sec. advantage on the field. I needed that because I was running a dry setup on the car (Lotus) so I could get some speed down the straight, but this meant tiptoeing through the Lesmo's, Ascari and around the Parabolica. I decided on this because I was getting walked on the straights with a wet setup during a rainy P3, but was fastest in the dry with very low downforce.

I was 14th after the pit stop but was faster on the straights was able to pass a few cars, and ended up back in the lead when all the pit stops were done.

I got a huge help from Truli on the last lap.......Hamilton appeared out of nowhere as I crossed start/finish and was gaining fast, and by the time I was through the 2nd Lesmo he was only about 1sec behind me.:nervous: But on the run down to Ascari, Truli pulled over to let me lap him, but seem to have impeded Hamilton through Ascari and the Parabolica because the white dot (Lewis) never got around the orange dot (Truli) until the beginning of the straight, but by then I was home free and fist pumping. Team orders? :sly:

Well, after my bogus grid position due to a qualifying penalty, I just completed my first race at Bahrain, race distance 100%.
Managed to claw my way up to 7th by lap 33, then spun out half way through on lap 34.
After getting back on track(nobody passed me), I got a front left puncture at the second to last corner. Pit in immediately. Dropped to 14th.
After two punctures in two consectutive laps, I was down to 21st by lap 37.
Lap 48. End result: 18th.
Conclusion? I loved every minute of it! Part of me is glad GT5 is delayed now.

I take it that last bit was being sarcastic? To be fair, you generally only get punctures if you take a trip over the gravel or run off track. Sticking to the racing line tends to make punctures extremely rare. That said, the almost inevitability of getting a puncture if you have an off track excursion is clearly exaggerated, and CM have acknowledged this and apparently have already corrected it in the new patch 👍

I disagree.

Punctures are entirely random. I've had races where I never went off the track and suffering two punctures in one race, whereas in other races I went in the gravel multiple times and I didn't experience any punctures.
