I disagree.

Punctures are entirely random. I've had races where I never went off the track and suffering two punctures in one race, whereas in other races I went in the gravel multiple times and I didn't experience any punctures.

I've heard about this sort of thing, but in my experience I have only got punctures when i've strayed off line. I can't remember getting a 'completely random' puncture. I agree though, it is unrealistically frequent.

Cant believe what just happened to me in this game. Racing at bahrain, rosberg shunts my rear left corner, I catch it only for the tyre on that side to puncture on the very next corner, I would have been OK with this as i was nearing my pit window, BUT it sent me into a spin that hit another car, and I got a drive through.

Overall bugs haven't bothered me that much, but penalties in racing games nearly always have flaws, and they always annoy me.

Just had to vent, thanks for reading.

The thing with punctures is, they've said going off track and going over rumble strips will cause punctures. Ok Fine. Can live with that...

But then why have the racing line hit the Apex of the corner. See Canada as perfect example. If you follow the racing line on track with your nose. You're going to hit every single strip.

So I've started my second season with Lotus (and second season overall) and I'm disappointed to find that all the R&D progress the team made on the car in the previous season have disappeared. What's the deal with that, how could've they just forgot all they learnt? Bummer. :indiff:

I take it that last bit was being sarcastic? To be fair, you generally only get punctures if you take a trip over the gravel or run off track. Sticking to the racing line tends to make punctures extremely rare. That said, the almost inevitability of getting a puncture if you have an off track excursion is clearly exaggerated, and CM have acknowledged this and apparently have already corrected it in the new patch 👍

No I wasn't being sarcastic, I honestly did enjoy it in a palm-sweaty-time-flies-quickly sort of way.
Not since F1:CE have I enjoyed a racing game this much. And the reason I am slightly glad GT5 is delayed is so I can concentrate on F1 2010 just now.

I havent got that far but that would be something I would expect. Considering racing games cannot create a new car for each new season, they give you the base car without upgrades from last season, until you earn them.

That's what I thought - if it were real life, surely you'd have to do all the R&D for the new car anyway, but since you can't get a new car in the game, doing the R&D again is the nearest thing?

On another note, this is not so much a 'bug' as a 'continuity error', but during a full qualifying session, how can it be tipping down with rain in Q1, bone dry in Q2, and raining again in Q3??

Hehe!

On another, another note... I'm not understanding where I am losing time against the AI...

I just ran a race at Malaysia in Pro mode, as a Toro Rosso. I started in Pole, and on Prime tyres. I lost the lead to Button immediately, and then he was keeping quite well ahead of me. However, I figured he was on Options and I was keeping up with him on Primes. Sure enough, he pits on Lap 4, only a few seconds infront, and I stay out on the Primes, knowing that his lap times will now be slower. My stop takes 7.5s, and I come out about 6 seconds behind Button, much further behnid him than when he pitted, and after I had put in three laps at ~1 s faster than him... He was doing 1.38's on Primes to my 1.37's on Primes (both 7 laps), and I was doing 1.36's on Options to his 1.37's on Options (both 4 laps). So, unless his pitstop was practically instantaneous, there must have been something very odd going on with the timing...

Getting it off the grid is so difficult, especially if you've not got TC on. They need some lights on the HUD for a start.

I agree, no matter how well I do in qualifying I always go backwards at the start and have to play catch up.

It's not just that... although I lost the lead, and the leader was on Options, I stayed with him and was only 1-2 seconds behind when he pitted... I then put in 3 laps that were a good 1 s faster than he was running, and yet when I pitted, I came out much further behind, which I totally wasn't expecting...

Is it common for F1 cars to get punctures from driving on the curbs IRL?

I would think its more from debris (shards of carbon fibre for example), than using the curbs as curbs are driven on most of the time no :dopey:

I turn off the tyre wear setting when I host an online race because 2 & 3 stops because of punctures seems too much.

I had a puncture of my `wets`on Spa in a 4 lap race 👎

If you want pit stops then choose full tyre wear; or just choose dynamic weather for the race weekend :)

This is one of my biggest issues with the game......in real life, the driver on options at the start is at a disadvantage to the driver on primes and therefore must get away and build a lead before his pit stop to make the strategy work. If you can stay within a second or two of him on your primes then you should have a clear advantage (assuming you keep consistent lap times) when your pit window opens. You should be able to either come out 1 to 2 sec. in front, or behind......either way, you should be pulling away or catching up rapidly by virtue of running new tires on a lighter fuel load. I hope they address this with the patch.

Monaco effing sucks, it seems that whenever I hit the kerbs the car will shoot sideways, and if there's another car behind me I get an illegal blocking penalty. 👎

3 practice sessions in Monaco has resulted in me getting a combined 15 spot grid penalty. 👎

Yeah, I don't buy the the rumble strips causing punctures. I've done races where I hit them plenty of times, and nothing. But then, there's been times where I don't hit them & they happen.

What's pissing me off is that I seem to be getting punctures right between crossing the starting line & Turn 3 of any circuit, forcing me to limp around the entire circuit. I've even started using the flashbacks for those instances. :grumpy:

Remember that fuel load goes down lap by lap, so he doesn't have to be slower, and he would have fresh rubber as well.

Do you play on a PC or console? I'm wondering whether a specific group of players are experiencing this since I've never had any problems with warnings or blockings at Monaco, yet I've read so much about it all over the internet. I'm playing on the PC.

I had the same issue with monaco and was so mad, I literally turned the difficulty down and put the race on 20% just to get passed it. I usually run 100%, but could not stand it.

I figured out what the problem was with losing time in the pits... strangely, if you have the speed limiter on, you will cruise at 40 mph automatically if you are not holding the accelerator down... but, if you do, you will cruise at 60 mph :odd:

I got so annoyed with puntures at turkey, i switched tyre wear off. got 3 more punctures! Stupid game.

Now i have no assists, and full legend mode, it kind of makes sence now, as im driving a virgin, but it is annoying that i can get to Q3 every race, but be in 17th by turn 1, and then 2 secs a lap slower.

Even the lotus' blast past me in the opening laps.

I also have damage set on cosmetic and that seems to stop punctures from happening at all.

Codemasters is also intending to address the puncture issues (see patch news) 👍

I play on the 360 with a controller.

Not that strange, obviously with "manual control" there has to be an element of the user not being able to stop in the lane outside of the box. Of course, I'd just re-affirm how it works by a radio message from the engineer. "Remember, speed limiter on and stick to 60." Or something like that.

Wow 3 weeks of playing and I just figured out the whole Limiter button thing.:D ,Still dissapointed by the graphics though and by how easy it is.
