F1 TV coverage threadFormula 1

So daytime races will be shown at 5pm gmt and morning ones at 2pm gmt but what about canada?

£145.50 ($224.62) per year per household for your standard colour TV.....

....which is frankly extortionate when most countries have no charge and those that did have mostly scrapped it. Channels which are private actually make more money and therefore can produce better programmes the only negatives being adverts which I don't care less about because I can go off and do stuff during them.

The biggest joke is that you need to pay it even if you don't watch BBC channels. If there was something you could fit to the TV is disable them and not have to pay it would be brilliant.

This is why the BBC is struggling because the licence fee is a pretty much static level of income for them yet the cost of everything is going through the roof hence why they can't afford to totally keep F1.

+1 👍

We can't also forget that the Olypmic Games , Eastenders rubbish etc & keeping the overrated but yet excruciatingly boring Wimbledon tennis coverage was deemed far more important . 👎:yuck:

Just a thought with MB at Sky what will happen if the BBC gridwalker and MB both queue up to talk to the same driver at the same time? Who gets priority, the BBC or Sky? And I just want to say, BRING BACK MURRAY WALKER!!!!!!! Sorry about that.

Can't wait for the moment when Brundle cuts off the BBC crew on one of his gridwalks.

I know. I suppose what I meant was this is all for show. MP's appearing to to be intervening on behalf of people when everyone knows nothing can be done anyway.

Tell me about it. I have a problem with one of the policies of the UKBA. I email my mp and get a restatement of the facts. So I email the people in charge of the UKBA and get a smug restatement of the facts.

I was born here, I should have the right to bring my future wife here. [/rant]

...That millions will watch on the internet so their money doesn't go to Murdoch

I don't know. I thought about it, but I have a funny feeling that streams will be taken care of regularly, so you'll spend half the race trying to find one.

Sky have just announced a dedicated HD channel for Formula 1 coverage.

Excellent. I really didn't want to end up paying for football.

There's no priority, it's the press, the loudest and most aggressive normally wins.

Actually, that's wrong. Previously, as the provider of the commentary for the "world feed", the BBC had dibs on interviews. They couldn't just cut people off, but they got priority. Hence why there have been very few incidents when Brundle has cut in front of someone. Excluding Tanya from Sky Germany.

This would seem to contradict reports that the BBC will be showing 'as live re-runs' of non-live races, since it mentions a '90 minute' highlights programme - which, while it will probably be pretty comprehensive, it's still a poor second to showing the whole race, including build-up and aftermath...

The BBC have announced the races they will be showing on free-to-air: China, Spain, Monaco, Valencia, Silverstone, Spa, Singapore, Korea, Abu Dhabi and Brazil.

I can't imagine that this will be a particularly popular choice.

Yep. I'm most disappointed to miss the season opener, no matter where it is - the first race of the season is always something special to watch live.

My biggest concern is not the first race, but the last significant race - which, of course, BBC viewers will not be guaranteed to see live either, unless the title goes to the wire.

Missing out on Monza and Suzuka and getting Valencia and Korea is horrible, but it could be worse....

Sky have annouced their 2012 commentary line-up:

- Martin Brundle and David Croft will call qualiying and the race.
- Croft and Anthony Davidson will cover free practice.
- Ted Kravitz will be in pit lane.
- Natalie Pinkham will cover the paddock.
- Simon Lazenby will host the coverage.
- Georgie Thomspon will host an "F1 magazine show" with Kravitz contributing.
- Steve Rider will be conducting a series of feature articles, interviewing "racing legends of the past and present".

It certainly looks very strong, indeed. However, there is no word as yet on the fates of David Coulthard, Lee McKenzie, Eddie Jordan, Jake Humphrey or Jake Humphrey's iPad. For now, they appear to be staying with the BBC.

Brundle and Croft is an interesting one, its like they have taken the best of TV and Radio and rolled it into one however there might be a fight for the mic unlike with Couthard where Brundle always had to get him to talk! I'm glad Steve Rider is back in the picture as he was an excellent host for ITV F1.

It still hasn't been made clear whether the BBC will provide its own commentary team for the highlights, re runs and live races they have the rights to or they will just take the Sky stream.

prisonermonkeys
or Jake Humphrey's iPad.

 I tell you, I'd burn that thing!

I would like to see Couthard, Eddie and Lee McKenzie back in some sort of capacity though, she does good driver interviews / video pieces and better than Natalie Pinkham IMO.

Robin.

As good as McKenzie is - most drivers will give her a pretty level interview, even if they're frustrated or upset - I suspect ITV went in for Pinkham because they didn't want to simply copy-and-paste the 2011 BBC line-up for their 2012 coverage. And also possibly because the BBC wanted to hold onto a few of their own people, the same way as they wanted to hold onto certain races (Monaco, Silverstone and the season finale).

Does this mean Brundle won't be commentating for the BBC next year?
There is no word on exactly how the BBC broadcast deal will work, but if I may fill in the blanks (read: guess) a little bit, I imagine that he would be commentating for them.

It is my understanding that the BBC will become like any other terrestrial broadcaster, like OneHD in Australia or SPEED in America. Sky will be the exclusive broadcaster, controlling the world feed. The BBC will show whatever the other terrestrial broadcasters show. They will have the option of putting their own commentary over the top of the broadcast, but they slimmed down their coverage in the name of cutting costs. I can't imagine that they would then go and hire their own commentary team when they get first-class commentary (they ought to know - they hired most of the Sky team first) from the world feed.

Well, I'm sold.
I don't think you're actually going to see much of them. When Lee McKenzie was interviewing drivers, the BBC never cut away from qualifying or the race. I don't see why Sky would do it for Pinkham. As for Thompson, details of her "magazine" show are scarce, but I imagine that she would be like the anchorwoman for a news bulletin. You'll see her ... but not much of her.

That's because that was BBC coverage.

Chances are the F1 team will appear on Soccer AM at some point and there'll be a show like "Take It Like a Fan".

Just had a quick look on the BBC website to see if it mentions anything about their presentation line-up.

Reading through it, i'd surmise that the same line-up as from 2011 will report on the BBC's 10 live races just as they did last year, and produce a highlights programme for the Sky-run live races (again, as they do now). Whether that means Brundle and Kravitz will work for both broadcasters, who knows?

If the BBC decide to go for their own commentators, I think Jonathan Legard and Ortis Deley would be a hilarious(for all the wrong reasons) combination.

We seen plenty of Lee Mckenzie before and after the race. I wouldn't like the programmers cutting away during a race who ever it is unless there was a serious incident and pretty sure the people at the BBC and Sky would think so too.

I'm pretty impressed with the Sky lineup. Still can't see myself subscribing but wouldn't begrudge anyone doing so.

So who has bought Sky since this deal was announced? I have. Partly becuase i was interested in getting Sky anyway, so decided to actually go through with it once the deal was announced.
I was originally annoyed with the BBC's decision to sell to Sky, but if they're in financial trouble its better to jump ship now than before things get worse, so it does make sense i guess..
On another note.. For £35 a month Sky is very good value for money in my opinion!:)

I was going to, but then Sky withdrew the proposed Sky Go online only subscription. I'm a student living in halls and there is no point in getting a full sky package as I can't install a satellite dish or broadband services, so therefore I can't access Sky Go either. My only option now is to contribute the cost of sky sports towards my mum's package at home, and then use her code for the online, but I want full control over my account rather than piggybacking onto somebody elses.

Much like many pubs are doing currently, would it be cheaper in any circumstances to use other sources for coverage from within the EU?

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me. :)

My question is, how much does Sky HD cost for an existing customer, just the most basic HD pack. Only I don't have Sky Sports or HD so I wouldn't be able to watch this channel. Thanks.
