Yeah I saw that mentioned on the iRacing forum. No worries for us mod guys really - with the Bühler motors there's no need to run any higher than default. I run SPR @ 0-30 mostly, DPR @ 100 in-wheel and varied in-Sim, FOR @ 100 or less.

SUCCESS :) hard wired the pcb and put some CF on to jazz it up and its looks pretty sweet

OK, so you need to pull off your steering wheel and remove the 5 screws in a pentagonal pattern to remove the QR adapter, but before you can pull the wires out through the shaft you'll need to get inside the wheelbase and unplug the 12-pin cable from the PCB. To do that, just take off the rear black plastic cover and remove the two screws holding the PCB to the base, then pivot the board up towards the top of the wheel if you don't want to unplug everything else and remove the plug. You may have to peel off some hot glue to get it out. You'll need to bend the plug/wire so that it will go through the center of the steering shaft, then you can just pull it right through using the QR collar (which you should have unscrewed first). From there it's all yours.

All I ask for payment :D is that you post some pictures of your mod when you're done.

Verrrry nice! I am jealous, that looks awesome! Did you build that chassis yourself? We need more deets!

Did not see the last part of the your post before...
Yeah, i built the chassis myself, over the last year and a half - of wood and fibreglass, finished with an automotive spray job and carbon fibre warp on the inside. Also, modded the steering wheel to include an F1 type LED display and 6 rotary switches.

Oh forgot, I'm going to put the air compressor in the room next door, so I need 12 foot air hose, is this possible? What is the longest run possible? I'd just like to mount my wheel and have all the other stuff pass through a hole in the wall to reduce noise.

Thanks

I measured out 15ft. of hose for my setup with the air compressor in a closet. The pressure is great.

mayaman,
more photos...
still to put on - stickers and logos, carbon fibre wrap to base of chassis and insight surface to sidepods and air intake vents...

OMG Eglan totally drooling over here! Awesome job. How much time did that take you? More pics when you're finished please!

As other's have stated, AMAZING flipping job Eglan, BE VERY proud of what you've accomplished. Its a Piece of Art imo.

More details on the Modded F1 rim please.

One of the most gorgeous setups I've seen in someone's home...Bravo!
Just curious what projector make/model will you be going with and will you be mounting projector in front or behind the concave screens?
I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say please share some videos of the rig once completed.
I would love to drive Assetto Corsa on that setup!
Thanks for sharing and best of luck with the project

Thanks very much guys. We all take our racing seriously...:)
Thanks to eKretz, i was able to place the wheelbase at the nose tip of chassis.
It has been a tonne of work over weekends and nights from september 2012.
Not quite finish yet but hoping to get done once i get the logo stickers designed and printed.
No, Mayaman, I am not in the US, I am in St Lucia...
I am using a 9ft diameter curved (concave) screen and three BENQ 1080ST projects mounted in front (with the image from the projectors intercepting approximately over the point of driver's eyes).
I am testing WARPALIZER blending software.
Will post photos of the screen (made of bristol board, cardboard and foam board) and projector setup later...and hopefully a video of the setup running in one of my tests.
My preferred racing simulations are rfactor 2 and F1 2012...

I'm using a 12 diameter screen made from Wilsonart Frosty White material with 3 BenQ W1080ST. What material are you using? Can you take a wider shot?

The best F1 home cockpit I've ever seen by a long shot.

Also, can I PM you? I need info on the column you're using for my GT2 cockpit replica.

Have you tried Assetto Corsa? It is a great time get in on AC as modding tools both tracks and cars just recently released. Also in September we will have the Green Hell with LaFaerrari, P1, and other Supercars!
Let me if you get AC and we can do some track days and racing together!

Very nice, envy..

May I ask if you did choose a more upright sitting position compared to real modern F1 racers for any specific reason?

Then again could be an illusion as well I guess + I can imagine it´s not as comfy laying almost flat they do in F1 today with feet so high up as well almost not seeing outside when racing?
Have never tried that flat position but looks uncomfy compared what yours look like?

@Eglan Superb work.

So there will be no aspect of a virtual car represented, and just what you physically have there? I'm seeing a couple of android phones embedded in the side view mirrors, acting as.... well..... side view mirrors.

Mayaman,
What exactly is the Wilsonart Frosty White material and how did you get it to curve to the 12ft diameter?
Email me at dannionce@gmail.com about the column (steering?)

Thank you, I'll email you tonight.

The WilsonArt material is Formica of some sort. You can buy it in pretty much any size you want. You can buy the 4' by 8' sheets at Home Depot, roll it up, and take it home. Or you can contact WilsonArt directly and get the size you need. I have a 5 foot tall by 12 foot wide sheet of the stuff. It has AWESOME projection properties with no hot spotting and fantastic gain.

The stuff is indestructible, washable, since its counter-top material. Yet easy to cut if you have the right knife.

I literally am attaching it to the wall with industrial velcro, its light enough that you can do this. I'm using it in a corner so I am getting a very natural 45 degree curvature. Fantastic stuff.

I'd like to know more about the material you used.
